I've been watching this show for a while and they seem to present pretty good evidence pointing to UFOs. I don't see them new, but last night I saw the one where they had the air traffic controller on that was watching the radar with 3 huge reflections showing up, I think it was over lake Michigan.
Anyone else on here watch it much?
I have always been wondering, with what ever therory you adhere to of what or who UFO's are, why do UFOs need lights?

T.A., stop being so logical! :-D
1. If they are little green men, they probably don't "need" lights, though if you beleive they exist I guess you could say that even on their homeworld they need to land and they are used for navigation on Ziltoid?
2. They are just regular ol' planes. And planes have lights.

Actually most UFO's cannot be seen with the human eye.
The only ones we can see are the ones driven by elderly aliens that still have their turn signal on after turning left at Saturn.

UFO's need lights for the same reasons that cars do….. it is hard to see where you are going in the dark!

I always thought UFO's had lights so they could differentiate between the American Brown Swiss cattle and the Texas Longhorn in the dark.

Yah, I will vote for that one.
I am on the fence about UFOs until I see one my self, but if they are aliens, then apparently they are really stupid, don't care, or maybe the lights are some kind of part of the UFO's motor.
If they are super secret military projects, they are either stupid and they leave the lights on so everyone can see their super secret military aircraft at night (I want my taxes back), or they are bored and next time they go fly they turn the lights on to mess with people.
Even though a lot of UFO sightings seem to happen around military air bases… I would have to think that if they were super secret military aircraft we would not see them at all. A made in USA UFO flying at night, it would seem turning off the lights would be the easiest way to conceal that they are flying around.
As far as the show, they seems to corner the evidence pretty good. At least to the point to where you believe all these people actually saw something. I mean police radio, and a radar operator, as well as all the people who saw the stuff. ( I don't know the episode, its just the last one I saw.)

I would think that it would depend upon the aircraft. If the intent of the aircraft is that of stealth (not being seen by radar) then the only way to truly keep in contact with the craft is radio and visually. If you're testing the craft at night, so no one can get a good look at it, then you turn on the lights and set up teams along the flightpath so you have visual confirmation. This way, you can still do your tests and if anyone sees the lights…well…they're seeing either lights in the sky or UFO's…and good luck with that…
And speaking of this…I realize that many people are into UFO's and that's cool. No problem with that. I do have a problem with the people scoping out "not so secret anymore" military bases such as Area 51. I'm just saying that maybe taking pictures, making films and keeping logs on US experimental military aircraft and weapon systems isn't the best idea in the world. Sometimes when I watch these UFO shows I start wondering if other countries even bother to send over spies anymore. Just follow some UFO websites and such and you have more data on these military bases than you know what to do with. I know it's really harsh and sort of a joke…but I have to admit that every now and then, the word "treason" pops into my head. Having a passion for UFO's is one thing but literally spying on military bases…that's something else.

But why do the lights of supposed UFOs appear so terrestial looking? No wonder a lot of people mistake ordinary aircraft for UFOs. You would think that with such advanced technology they either wouldn't have need of lights or use another source of illumination that wouldn't even be detected by human eyes.

There is a theory that extraterrestrials picked up a rogue TV signal that was broadcast in the mid 1970's.
The signal they received was quite shocking to them and radically changed their lifestyle.
They based all their understanding and research of Earth on this transmission that had reached their galaxy.
Unfortunately the signal they captured was Deny Terrio's 'Dance Fever'.
Hence all the revolving disco lights on their rides.

Galaxyquest!
Listening to Coast to Coast AM they had a guy on that takes people out to look at the night sky with military grade night vision goggles and people have been seeing "UFOs" flying and zigzagging all around the sky. Gorge Noory talked about the things he saw with them also. I don't think Noory would lie and hoax, I think he is a little over tolerant though, but I suppose you would have to be with the callers on that show.
So that would be an example of UFOs using some light not visible to us.
I'm not sure what I would think if I got to look up there and see that. Things moving around the sky, not shooting stars on a falling flight path. Moving, stopping, changing direction…

I don't know about the stopping and changing direction part, they do roll and pass into shadow, but there are plenty of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites up there just below our vision threshold that can be picked up with sensitive cameras or night vision equipment. The light we see from them is reflected sunlight.
One of my other hobbies is astronomy with a sub-interest in low light night video. Did I mention I have too many hobbies?
Anyway, I took some video of a few LEO satellites and put them on youtube if anyone is interested. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q6Zg82wq1_s

Those are neat vidz. Were they real time?
How do you know they are satalites?
What could they be if they zigzagged, stoped, and continued again in another direction?

Were they real time? No. Every single frame was 2.5 seconds exposure so the video is sped up.
How do you know they are satellites? Their motion gives them away, the way they move and tumble. These are viewable by the hundreds ever night. I believe many of them can be checked and tracked by the Heavens Above website for their movements on any particular night. http://www.heavens-above.com/
What could they be if they zigzagged, stoped, and continued again in another direction? Weather balloons or aircraft. Here's one of my videos of a weather balloon launch. Also with time sped up. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3v2PAgQuXQ
I'm not a complete skeptic on UFO's, but in the 35 years that I've seriously been interested in astronomy and photography I've never seen one. Perhaps it's because I have a better idea of what I'm looking at or imaging.
The vast majority of UFO reports are misidentified common objects and people have a bad habit of embellishing sightings. I've had Jupiter described to me as "fireworks above a hill". Venus has "chased" people as it came towards them! I've heard quite a few tall ones believe me.
However there are a few stories out there that can't be completely dismissed so I try to keep an open mind.

About the satellites–as my husband, who used to work in Air Force Security says, there are government projects going on using satellites that would not be revealed to the general public. Just as with secret experimental aircraft, there are satellites in orbit that are classified. So if a UFO is spotted and it is not on a satellite list somewhere, it does not mean that it is extra-terrestial.
And I agree, there are some strange occurrances that leave one wondering. I had such an experience myself that to this day I haven't been able to figure out. Just wish I knew how long a helicopter can hover in one place, as so far it's the only normal object that comes to mind regarding what I saw.

Learjet, that's an awesome video! Where I live it gets really dark at night, and when it's warm enough one of my favorite things to do is to just lay out in the front yard and watch for satellites. On most nights I can spot more satellites than planes. One time I actually saw two of them cross each other. I mean, it was aligned absolutely perfectly. I couldn't believe it.
I did see a ufo once. It was last summer, in the southern sky, pretty close to jupiter at the time. I saw a star-like point of light fade in, then fade out, without moving. It looked exactly like an iridium flare, but not as bright as most of those. I kept watching and it did it one more time a few seconds later, in the same spot. Probably a geosynchronous satellite.
