The Los Angeles Times just posted this article about an hour ago. The April article is entitled " The Road to Area 51". In this article they interviewed five former insiders who debunk UFO sightings in Area 51 due to the 2007 CIA declassification of information on the A-12 Oxcart, a covert spy plane and key project developed at Area 51. The men share stories about life on the base and the respond to the legends that have sprouted up about the base.

Area 51 is a red herring.
All the real good stuff takes place over at Area 53 :)

Alicat, thanks for the excellent link.
The part that made me laugh the most? "In all, 2,850 OXCART test flights were flown out of Area 51 while Slater was in charge. "That's a lot of UFO sightings!" Slater adds." Yes it is…
The next few weeks should be a great deal of fun on some UFO forums. I'm not a psychic, but I'm seeing a lot of outrage and accusations of lies and continuing cover-up's in the near future. Hmmm…if it does happen, that will prove that I'm a psychic and I'll ask this thread to be moved to the Possibly Paranormal section…
Can you just imagine Bill from UFO Hunters reading this? All curled up in the fetal position behind his desk, just rocking back and forth, mumbling "There are UFO's there. Reverse engineering. Alien bodies. They are there. They are there…"

Did I read the article right? The A-12 was only declassified in 2007? Revenant…You aren't the only psychic around here then! :)

I knew you were going to say that. See? More proof… Wait until I tape some ping-pong balls to my eyes like Chip Coffey and then you'll really see some evidence of my "gift."
Anyway…here's some "top secret (at the time)" aircraft that could also be mistaken for an UFO:

Check out the P-971. I've seen some TV shows where the descriptions match this exactly. Kind of cool seeing the real thing…

Here's a review of the original article:
http://www.examiner.com/x-2383-Honolulu-Exopolitics-Examiner~y2009m4d7-UFO-mystery-solved-according-to-Area-51-workers
My favorite part?
"Those interested in finding the truth, need to dig deeper and consider all the historic evidence concerning the UFO mystery. The truth can be found in UFO/flying saucer reports from the 1940s and 1950s that led to the retrieval and reverse engineering of advanced vehicles whose origins, according to reliable witnesses, are extraterrestrial."
Um…what?

I've never heard anything credible that claimed there were ever UFO's at Area 51.
It's other parts of the Nevada Test Range that are in question, and you better believe that if there are UFO's being test flown there or anywhere else, it's going to be damn near impossible to get any straight info about it unless you personally know someone that trusts you implicitly. They would also want to have very effective bug sweeping devices handy or go on a long drive with you to a very remote location for a chat.
Why would you ever expect to hear anything credible pro or con about UFO's from a bunch of former government employees who are talking to the press?
