Quite a few years back, a friend and I shared quite a strange experience, but at different times.  We both think its a pretty freaky coincidence.  At the same time, I believe there could very well be a good explanation to it all, I'm just not well informed enough to know what it is.  I hope that somebody who knows a little bit about sleep may be able to enlighten me.

I was hanging out at my friend Eric's house, and it had gotten pretty late.  So I decided to just go ahead and spend the night, since I was pretty damn tired.  He set me up on his couch in the upstairs TV room.  Once I fell asleep, I began having a very vivid dream.  Basically, I was inside the house with a group of people, and I was being given a tour, like an open house or something.  Strangely enough, we had stopped in the upstairs TV room when I suddenly woke up.  However, I wasn't aware that I had woken up, and looking around I started thinking that I had been left behind by the group I was with.  So I began walking around the house looking for them.  I went downstairs into the living room, where Eric's sister was up late watching TV.  When I saw her, I suddenly realized what was going on and snapped out of it.  After awkwardly trying to explain why I was randomnly wandering around her house late at night, I went back to sleep without any further incident.

Let me just say that I had never slept walked before in my life.  Even so, I didn't give it much thought, it was just a strange story I had.

However, sometime later I was hanging out with my friend Rene at a Taco Bell.  He had recently spent the night over at Eric's house and mentioned how he had a strange night there.  I instantly remembered my sleepwalking incident and told him the story.  When I finished, I noticed he was looking at me odd.  It turns out, he had gone to sleep on that same couch, and he also slept walked not once, but twice that night, due to having a similar sort of dream.  But both times he did, he snapped out of it to find himself wandering through Eric's sister's room.  Luckily she was out that night, or he would have had a hard time explaining that away.  Rene also didn't have any prior history of sleep walking.

So how do two guys who have never slept walked before suddenly start sleep walking when they go to bed in this particular room?

While we were discussing this, we started joking around that we had some sort of strange psychic connection with each other.  Jokingly, he pinched his leg under the table and asked me if I could feel that.  I then was able to point out the exact spot on my own leg.  I don't really think that had much to do with anything, but it totally freaked us out even more, at the time.

Anyway, is there something about the room that could have influenced us to both sleepwalk that night?

I have no idea who you are so my reply is not a comment on your person, it's just I know that sudden sleep walking can be the result of– shall we say– combining certain substances. Could you both have enjoyed the same "thing" at your friend's house? Again, no harm intended.

Ha, no not at all.  There were no drugs or alcohol involved.

Heh…  I have to admit, the first thing I thought was "not necessarily the couch per-se, but possibly what you were SMOKING *ON* the couch…"   Wink

Since you deny that, I s'pose Leslie might be on to something as well…

It's not at all unusual for teenagers to sleepwalk, I'd suspect coincidence combined with a little mother-nature…  Er…  I mean… Coincidence.     Wink

I'm a sleepwalker (used to do it a lot when I was younger), but one thing I can say for sure…I NEVER, EVER REMEMBER IT.  Heck, one time at the Jersey Shore my family told me I walked outta the beach house, went to the neighbors house and just before walking in I somehow realized what I was doing, and never actually went into the house (thankfully).  They said it was the hilarious (obviously they didn't want to wake me) but the next morning I had absolutely no clue.  The fact that you remember sleepwalking is very very strange.

FYI, I can't remember dreams either…perhaps very vaguely, but when I sleepwalk I'm literally clueless, even if you tell me exactly what I did, I have no recallection.
