This is a touchy subject but I wanted to put it out there to see if anyone has had any similar occurrences.

About 10 years ago I had lost a close family member (Don't really want to get into details).  To make a long story short, on the way to the Hospital with my cousin (she was driving me) I had heard the words "only the good die young" as if they were taken right out of the actual song.  It was clear as day, I immediately looked at the radio which wasn't even turned on and then to my cousin (who from my vantage hadn't heard anything, as she kept her eyes on the road and didn't acknowledge my surprise…or even look back at me for that matter).  I didn't say anything to her because it was just something I didn't want to accept…but looking back on it, it's unexplainable to me.  Has anyone every experienced anything along these lines?

I have never had an experience like that.   I am not trying in any way to question your feelings on this but could your cousin have whispered the phrase.  She may have been thinking about your relative and said it without even thinking or reacting except to drive.

Stan,

I appreciate the response and the feedback.  You bring up a good point, and I'm willing to entertain all opinions.  However, what I heard was not "spoken word", instead it sounded exactly like the song it self, literally the portion of the chorus that goes; "only the good die young" (it even had the background music to go along with it) and that's it.  It was rather eriey (sp) to say the least.

That's why I immediately looked at the radio…which again was turned off.

First off, even though it was ten years ago, I am sorry for your loss.  It's always tragic when a loved one is lost.

As for your experience, it sounds very interesting.  The thing that jumped out at me in your story was that you were making the drive to the hospital.  I've taken a couple of these drives myself.  Just wrought with stress, fear, dread, and a few tons of other emotions.  The mind is a tricky thing…and very defensive.  Although I never experienced anything like you did, the strangest things would pop into my mind.  Just a jumble of old memories.  It was like my mind was just trying to grasp some sort of normalcy out of a surreal situation.  In hindsight, maybe I was just trying to cope with things and I wasn't sure on how to do that so my brain just kind of tossed things out there to see if something stuck.

So did you actually have a paranormal experience?  I don't know.  But if it was a positive experience and it helped you through an awful time, I wouldn't bring any scientific conjecture into it because it would probably just ruin it.  I would just be grateful for it and call it a day.  Smile

When you hear real words in your head you mean? Yes I have experienced that. In my case I was very sick, not far from giving up and I clearly heard the words "just a little longer" in my head like they were put there to give me comfort and let me know I would soon recover.

The skeptic in me could easily dismiss this as an hallucination, which would be understandable under the circumstances, however I choose to keep an open mind about it.

Oh by the way I survived. Wink

I've experienced what you've described any number of times.  I never thought of it as supernatural or paranormal, though… Basically if I'm just on the edge of dozing off or if I'm very deeply focused on something (thinking really hard and tuning out the environment) I will hear music very loudly and clearly.  It will sound exactly like it does off of a CD or the radio.  Sometimes it even starts with a little bit of static like someone is tuning into a radio station.

The funniest explanation that I can think of relates to stories I've heard about people hearing radio stations via the fillings in their teethSmile  I don't know if that's been debunked, but the music is clear enough that I wouldn't rule that, or something similar, out.

The most likely scenerio, and what I've always believed, is that it's simply the equivalent of a waking dream.  This is fairly obviously the case in the instances when I'm dozing off.  When I'm thinking deeply, I think that I'm probably near a meditative or hypnotic state.  And the music just "switches on" in my head for a few lines.

As it never lasts long, I believe that I am startled 'awake' and the sound goes away.

This doesn't happen often, just occasionally.  And it's worth noting that I studied music for 16 years, so I may be particularly prone to having music float around my head.  But it's likely safe to assume that just as we might be able to vividly imagine an image in front of us, we may be able to hear a sound that we remember from another time.

Yes what you are referring to is called a hypnagogic hallucination and it could possibly explain what we experienced. I can't discount that. Perhaps severe pain or stress can induce this state as does near sleep or relaxed states. I have experienced many dozen of these before, along with lucid dreaming. It's one of my hobbies to observe them.

Radio reception via fillings is actually possible but rare. Under certain circumstances the filling is just the right shape and touches the tooth in just the right way that it acts like a diode or detector. This can demodulate a nearby high power am radio station and will literally play the station from their mouth. Strange but true.

I was kidding when I said that it could be a radio playing via my fillings – but I think that might be the actual explanation of my experience now!  From the time that I was 3 until about 2 years ago I've always lived in the same neighborhood.  There is a huge AM radio tower very nearby.  In fact, while I lived with my parents, I could see the tower from my bedroom window.  I would count the flashes to fall asleep.  It caused all sorts of interference in the neighborhood – baby moniter's would play the station, if I left my cd player on, with no cd playing, I could hear the radio through the speakers, cordless phones would pick up on it. At one point, I bought new phones for the house.    The switch from 900 (was it hz?) to 2.4 (mgz?  I just remember the numbers) created so much interference that I couldn't really hear the person I was talking to over the sound of the radio.  Perhaps my fillings were playing music, too :-)

Since the 'hearing music' phenomenon doesn't bother me, i don't take much note of when or how often it happens, but off the top of my head, i don't recall it happening since we've moved.

On another note, hypnogogic hallucinations might occur during a time of stress because you are in a highly focused state, similar to meditation.  For example: during meditation one might focus exclusively on the sound of their own breath and work to eliminate all other external stimuli.  During a highly stressful or other highly focused situation (reading, playing the piano, etc.) one enters into a similar state.

You are so lucky to just have 1 paranormal experience. I have a problem with having to put up with them all the time.

Well, you should have amassed a ton of evidence by now and maybe you might have something concrete to say on some of these theories that are out there….?

LaughingOMG, I juust deal with it, like puppy that isn't paper trained, messes just pop up and I have to deal with them. Like the bottom coming off my milk carton, or finding a note in an unopened box of cereal, both could be due to facttory products, aside from the "gross" note in the ceral box, so I can ignore them. I just live in a odd house, even the pets act odd at strange times. No pics. of shadow people, hazzy smoke floating in the living room. I refuse to walk around holding a camera all the time, even in the shower.. If whatever wants to see me wet and dripping, more power to him/her/it. I don't feel I'm in any danger, in fact having the lights on in the house is kinda comfortable to see when I pull into the driveway. Then there is tthe moving of my clothes to different drawers, same with the china, etc. Wish it would clean  the car and mow the yard. Since I'm single, it might give me the experiences of having a husband around by what I'm dealing with now.Wink

Well if it happens as often as you say, I wouldn't think you'd need to carry a camera around ALL the time. I'm just rather surprised that, since you said you were a member of IGHS, that you wouldn't take a more active effort in trying to capture some of these happenings….

That's what I'd be doing. Grab the usual GH stuff, camera, EMF meter, thermometer, barometer, kitchen sink and document it.

This sounds to me like a psychological trick of the mind where you thought about those lyrics in your head but perhaps due to the emotional termoil i expect you would have been in or stress. You thought you heard them with your ears.

If it had of been random lyrics from a random song you probably would,nt have noticed but given the situation and the lyrics "Only the good die young" Its sounds as if your unconciouse mind may have been trying to reason with or make sense of the loss of your relative.

I am not sure I have ever heard anything "paranormal" that I thought anyone else could hear — and only twice have I seen something "paranormal" that other people have also seen at the same time. However, I have heard a voice, and also a thunder, in my head that was so loud it scared the pants off me. I was too shocked to even wonder if anyone else could hear it, but at the same time I think i understood right from the start that no one else could hear it.

Are these kinds of experiences paranormal, as in outside-the-norm? I think yes. Are they from spirits rather than just from your superconscious or the collective unconscious? I don't know. Personally, I am much more a believer in superconscious/subconcious/id etc. type communication than spirit communication. Also, as an aside, I think spirit communication, if it really exists, is pretty unimportant.
