it was jan. 2000 and i was lying in the bed just, for whatever mood, started focusing on my large plant on the top of the fridge when suddenly it started moving by itself for several seconds. both doors were closed and both windows were closed. there wasn't enough wind inside the small studio apartment to cause such a stir. is this debunkable?Undecided

My first thoughts are, are you ground level or higher up. Are you near a freeway, or an airport? I spend most of my time upstairs and have seen things shake rattle and roll. And 99% of the time I 'm sure one of these three have played a role in it. However the other 1%, I'm not quite sure……..

Check the back of your fridge. There might be a fan that keeps the electronics cool. It could flip on blowing air that ends up flowing to plant.

Could also be that the earth/ground shifted a tiny bit to cause the leaves to move.

"Like, hey Scoob… did you hear that?"

Maybe you were not really awake and you were dreaming?

BTW…. what does a remote control have to do with it? Do you think that someone has hooked up a device to your plant so they can move the leaves with a remote?

If you believe in telekinesis, raise my hands.

Psychokinesis, it's been awhile since I heard anyone claim or talk about that. However in this case, there is one big problem: we only have on account of the event and this from a source that implicitly claim to have caused the event. In short, we and the poster can not know if the plant actually moved or if it was overactive imagination, wishful thinking or misreading of visual stimuli. Our eyes are programmed to catch movement (useful against predators) and our brain is biased to read pattern into everything. Not to mention confirmation bias. Therefor, if say a truck, or neighbours doing a rain dance or the compressor in fridge made the plant move, which is obtainable with little force depending on the plant, and this happened while you were looking at the plant (intentionally or unintentionally) you would most likely interpret this chance as correlation and then as causality. The fact that the plant moved while you looked at it confirmes your belief (on a conscious or unconcsious level) that it was you that made it move.

You ask, why did it move when i focused on it? I would ask, why did you look at it when it moved? You see causality, I see chance. It is impossible to know which variable was the causal factor in this case, especially since we don't know all the variables or what really happened. However, if you want to explore it further and really know what happened, you should set up an experiment where you try to recreate the same phenomena in controlled setting.

To put it at plainly as possible, if I look at my phone, waiting and wanting it to ring or not, and the phone rings, was it me who made it ring? No, someone else rang at the same time I was looking at the phone. It seems a incredible coincidence, but is really nothing but chance.  Expecially since I really don't know how many times I have looked at the phone, waiting and wanting it to ring or not, and it didn't.

When in doubt… figure it out!

it only happened once. so i don't think it was from an outside source. if it was it would have happened more than once. right.

If you were concentrating on the plant, you were probably staring at it, which means that you were also breathing at it.  After a period of time spent steadily breathing in the same direction, it's possible to create enough air movement to inadvertantly move light objects like plant leaves of spider webs.

He said "at it" – IOW "in its direction."

His point being "if you face in the same direction for a time, it's not hard to set up a small air current which can cause light things (like plant leaves) to move.

I'd add this:  Plants grow.  It's possible that the plant had grown and created some stress – like a leaf caught on another) that released coincidentally to your looking at it.  Any number of other explanations for this, with the least likely being psychokinesis…

I don't know how you define the term "sincere" – but gtom my reading the responses you've gotten have BEEN both sincere and respectful.

Nobody here is going to say "OMG!  GHosts!!" — it's just not going to happen.

If you're determined that what you think you experienced was paranormal, you're not likely to find validation here.  If you're looking for alternative explanations, there's no better place.

HTH…
