Ok quick background story. Two years ago I lived in a house in NJ with three other guys. After getting out of college I wanted nothing to do with living at home. We moved into a house which I would late discover had some significance to it.
The house was just one of those old, creaky, spooky houses. Turn off the lights and its pitch black and pretty spooky. Our landlord owned the whole property with two houses on it, about 2 acres, tucked away in a isolated spot. Also, the landlord was a hoarder, but all that stuff was outside, including 2 FULL 18 wheelers on the property, which added to the spookiness to it. Anyway enough of a back story.
The first incident occured during setting up for our Halloween party. Everyone was nailing away to get stuff hung on the wall. As I left where everyone was, I heard 7-8 very loud bangs, identical to a hammer. When I got back to the room to ask who was on the wall hammering, no one had hammered at all since I left the room. I know what a warming up heater sounds like, but it was warm enough not to have heat on. Now its an old, old house so I can't throw out the possibility of that being the cause, but there was something so distinct about it, it kinda spooked me out. I can say 100%, that is was NOT anyone there hammering.
A 2nd typical occurence would be for the basement door to jiggle pretty violently once or twice as if someone was trying to get out but not turning the handle. We tried to debunk this a number of ways but nothing seemed to work.
The lone thing that I believe was not the house occured one night while I was about to take my dog out. It was about 1 AM and I had just gotten down the stairs. The staircase is no more then 10 feet from the exit. As I was about to open the door I heard 6-7 footsteps that picked up speed very quickly directly behind me. It had gotten my attention so much that I thought it was one my roomates friends so I turned around pretty quickly and said "HELLO?!" There was nothing there. Now I know this was not just the house. A. I was no longer moving. B. No one was downstairs at the time. C. They got heavy enough for me to even feel them at my feet. I know it was not a rodent either.
I fully expected to see someone staring at me eye to eye. I felt like I got that feeling that someone was going to be there, but nothing. I never heard footsteps or anything like that again.
I apologize for any poor spelling and/or grammar.
