Ok quick background story. Two years ago I lived in a house in NJ with three other guys. After getting out of college I wanted nothing to do with living at home. We moved into a house which I would late discover had some significance to it.

The house was just one of those old, creaky, spooky houses. Turn off the lights and its pitch black and pretty spooky. Our landlord owned the whole property with two houses on it, about 2 acres, tucked away in a isolated spot. Also, the landlord was a hoarder, but all that stuff was outside, including 2 FULL 18 wheelers on the property, which added to the spookiness to it. Anyway enough of a back story.

The first incident occured during setting up for our Halloween party. Everyone was nailing away to get stuff hung on the wall. As I left where everyone was, I heard 7-8 very loud bangs, identical to a hammer. When I got back to the room to ask who was on the wall hammering, no one had hammered at all since I left the room. I know what a warming up heater sounds like, but it was warm enough not to have heat on. Now its an old, old house so I can't throw out the possibility of that being the cause, but there was something so distinct about it, it kinda spooked me out. I can say 100%, that is was NOT anyone there hammering.

A 2nd typical occurence would be for the basement door to jiggle pretty violently once or twice as if someone was trying to get out but not turning the handle. We tried to debunk this a number of ways but nothing seemed to work.

The lone thing that I believe was not the house occured one night while I was about to take my dog out. It was about 1 AM and I had just gotten down the stairs. The staircase is no more then 10 feet from the exit. As I was about to open the door I heard 6-7 footsteps that picked up speed very quickly directly behind me. It had gotten my attention so much that I thought it was one my roomates friends so I turned around pretty quickly and said "HELLO?!" There was nothing there. Now I know this was not just the house. A. I was no longer moving. B. No one was downstairs at the time. C. They got heavy enough for me to even feel them at my feet. I know it was not a rodent either.

I fully expected to see someone staring at me eye to eye. I felt like I got that feeling that someone was going to be there, but nothing. I never heard footsteps or anything like that again.

I apologize for any poor spelling and/or grammar.

I'm still trying to think of what may have caused the unusual happenings in that house.  Have just pulled it up on Google Earth.

Has this house ever been mentioned in Weird NJ magazine?  Sounds like something they would be interested in adding to the many stories they carry.

Meanwhile, this has me quite intrigued.  Trying to rule out any earthly sources.

P.S. Two 18 Wheelers???  King of the Hoarders!

Oh that was just the bulk of it. There was another two story house on the property that had the first floor packed to the roof with stuff. There were also 2 boats, 3 tents, a chicken coop (tax purposes), among other things. The two 18 wheelers did not have the cab half. I always wanted to know what was inside them but they were padlocked.

You could not find a better spot to film a horror movie. Behind the house were about 50 feet of those wheat like stalks and a swamp. Surrounded by woods on all sides as well. I wish I did some recordings there, or some investigating. I would really like to know the history of it as well. I regret not doing more while I was there.

A true hoarder….maybe A & E should contact him!

I found the house on Google Earth very easily.  The 18 wheelers are quite visible, still minus cabs, and the place looks ramshackle compared to those on the rest on that road, which I take is not all that long.  Having said that, it also looks like the best candidate for the subject of the book you have mentioned.

I have a question–Is highway 138 quite busy with numerous types of vehicles traveling at high rates of speed?  Wonder if that may have something to do with this.  As I said, still mulling it over and trying to take everything into consideration.  I'm naturally intrigued by talk of hauntings in my own state.

138 is quite busy however you can't really even hear the cars. There are some trees and a nursing home of some sort behind the house. The house is also very far up on the property up close to the Hurley Pond Road. The thing I am not sure about is there is also a West Hurley Pond road that is over the highway. I am not sure which is the actual "Hurley Pond Road" as I know the East and West names were added later. I could say the first two things were 90% most likely the house being old. The footsteps were just so real it was crazy. I wish more had happened as I have become increasingly more and more intrigued by the paranormal and by this site. I have another story about the current place I live in now but its not so much of a paranormal story I guess. You'll have to judge for yourself
