This was not monitor burn, where someone stairs at a tv or puter monitor and look up fast into the darkness and see images because when I saw the figure in his doorway I sat up a little to greet him and the figure stayed in the upright position.
Hmmm…I wouldn't be so hasty to dismiss this possibility.
If I have this correct, it was 11:00pm, the TV was on yet no "main" lights were on in the room that you were in, the kitchen and the hallway (only a couple of small night lights). You were seated at the time. You looked to your right and at a distance of 4-5 feet you thought you saw something and sat up a little.
In this scenario, say you "slumped" into the chair from the start (we'll call that position A). You saw something and sat up a little (position B). Even though you are physically moving, the distance between A and B cannot be that great since you are still seated. So the actual distance moved is what? Maybe 12-15 inches at most? And, if you didn't break your line of sight while moving from A to B, why would the image (the monitor burn) move at all? It wouldn't. So what I am saying is that your focus on one point in space wouldn't be altered because you didn't move by a great enough distance. It would "seem" stable even though you were moving.
I'm not saying that this is the case. I'm just saying that maybe it should remain as a possibility. Shadows are tricky. Hard to tell where they are coming from and what is causing them (either internally or externally). But if one is not expecting to see one, I can definitely see the fear factor…
And welcome to the board…
