Hannah and Revenant,

First, I agree that writing in the dust would be a great idea.  That brings up the question of how do we even know the entity can write?  So far no one has talked to one so we are just speculating that this entity is a spirit able to communicate with human capabilities.   I think the writing and the brick tossing are somewhat linked by the fact that the entity must have two factors:  the capacity to reason and intelligence.  We are assuming that an entity has both but how do we know?  I don't even assume my last boss had either so that's a big assumption. Smile

I ask this because I agree that the object determines the interpretation.  We, as intelligent human beings, know a brick could be used as a threatening object/weapon or as a building material.  We also know that a pink fluffy stuffed rabbit is non-threatening because it does not have the capacity to harm anyone and is usually a child's toy or a collectible item.  Since we have the intelligence and the reasoning capacity to know the difference, we are assuming and assigning our intelligence to the spirit as well.  So, if the entity has the intelligence and the ability to reason and pick up the brick and toss it because it used those factors to determine it did not want that individual or individuals in the room, wouldn't it stand to reason it would be smart enough to throw the brick directly at that person or persons?  Or am I missing something?

Very good point alicat, we do not know if they can write.

Or if, assuming the incident was not staged, what the entity's purpose in throwing the brick?  Perhaps wanting to scare but not hurt?

Was it just an object that came to hand in lieu of a pink fluffy bunny? Again, we, as alicat pointed out, are assuming that there is purpose and reasoning behind it.  Cannot imagine what type of message contained in moving a soap dispenser, unless it was a hint to have better hygiene.

Revenant's quesitons: "Regardless of the object, what is the actual movement implying?  Is a form of communication being issued?  Is symbolism being used?"

All good questions.  What if the movement is to get us to pay attention.  Well, that would if we actually saw an object move on its own do it, at least for me it would.  Or is it frustration at the inablilty to communicate with the living? Like "I have been talking to you dunderhead for 5 minutes and you are not responding!"  Symbolism, I think, would be tricky given in time it changes.

Hannah,

You stole my line about the soap dispenser without knowing it.  I was coming back because I forgot to add it and you were on the same train of thought as I was (nothing paranormal there!).

True about the symbolism – that does change.  Would they even know what a soap dispenser is though?  I like your dunderhead comment.  Frustration could be a part but why toss something when just moving it would certainly be significant enough for me.  Then again, would the entity even know the difference?
