Revenant

Hopelessly Locked In A "Fear Cage"

Lead Investigator

I've been wanting to post this for a week…just didn't have a chance…

Last week, there was a very special  episode of PS.  It was an hour long and by far, one of the funniest ones that I've seen.

They went to West Virginia State Penitentiary.  Many paranormal groups have covered this place.  I think the first time I saw it was on MTV's "Fear."  For those of you that missed it, it was a show where MTV hand-picked some college kids who were both literally and figuratively afraid of their own shadows and sent them into spooky places.  The production crew definitely had a hand in making the places "spookier" and the fear generated in the kids was real.  I loved that show and miss it.

Anyway, Ryan was at his very best.  As the story goes…he had visited the penitentiary six months earlier (and without the PS crew for some reason) and had a mysterious and frightening experience.  He wouldn't tell the rest of the team what had happened.  This is how the show was to be built…the hero confronting his fears while leading his army into the gates of hell.  Funny thing happened along the way…it didn't quite work out as he wanted it to.

The rest of crew was doing what they normally do while setting up…they were joking around.  I don't think they realized that Ryan was building a story (which…let's be honest, it WAS just a story…).  Ryan snaps.  He chatizes them and punishes them.  I was laughing the entire time.

So Ryan sends each of them out on their own deep in the bowels of the jail.  And yes…they are all spooked.  Go out in search of ghosts and any sound an old, decrepted building makes is suddenly confirmation of your fears.

Near the end…we are let in on the big mystery.  Ryan and team are apparently the only ones allowed access to a certain portion of the building.  In this section…an upside-down pentagram is built into an interior window frame (kind of a stained glass type of thing).  I think that was supposed to send chills down my spine.  I was supposed to cower in fear and believe with all my heart that this place is cursed and obviously haunted.  I saw a window frame with broken glass.  I don't know what the stained-glass window depicted while intact.  The frame does have an upside-down pentagram shape in the middle of it.  Was it on purpose?  Was it meant as a symbol of anything?  I would list it as "mildly curious" at best, but nothing of great importance.  To them…it was like they had uncovered the throne of Satan himself.

So Ryan goes alone to confront whatever.  And…shocker…not much happened.  The curtain falls and Ryan's masterpiece is complete.  He is the conqueror.  An epic hero who emerges victorious against his imaginary foes.  Epic…in every sense of the word…

Again…one of the funniest PS shows that I've seen.  If you haven't seen it, try to make the effort.  Never in a paranormal show have you seen a guy try everything that he can to steer an "investigation" in a particular direction.  It's so painfully obvious as to what he's doing…it becomes memorizing.  I would rate it a full step above GA's Zak being possessed.

The only thing that can possibly rival the ludicrous tone of the show is Elfie's hat.  You know, the squat top-hat with the huge goggles on the front of them.  In a way, I give Elfie points.  She desperately desires to be "different" and that hat is the perfect vehicle for it.  When Ryan's performance can out-do that hat…you know that he's really on his game…

I completely agree with you Revenant, the show was hilarious.  Especially when Ryan got on the group for laughing.  And when they showed us the pentagram, I almost fell off the couch.  I just thought, oh no, not again.  I kept hoping Satan would appear and scare the pants off Ryan.  I just can't get over that I still watch this show…though its really only to see the next ridiculous thing Ryan does or says.  The only thing I differ with you, Revenant…I enjoyed Zak's possession much better.

Don't we all! And not just to Ryan and PS. Any para show will do, with a nice big hairy, slime oozing demon  grabbing them in it's clutches and taking them back to the portal of hell! Some justice is needed for all the carp they "make" us sit through lol.

Oh, don't get me wrong, Zak getting possessed on the occasion is TV gold.  Yet, it is only a single event in an investigation.  What Ryan was up to was on a grander scale.  The entire premise of the show was "made to order" in a way.  In my personal opinion, I believe the entire thing was fabricated because it would make an "awesome" show.  It was more akin to some real life role-playing exercise as opposed to a paranormal investigation.  That is why Ryan is getting the grand prize.  This wasn't a single event that would help sell the show to its audience.  The entire thing was rigged right from the start and Ryan did everything in his power to make it happen.  I've never seen anything like it.  The fact that anyone is buying this show as real is just intrinsically sad.

Another point I wanted to make about the show…I forgot about until Nosfer mentioned it to me…

As I said in the original post, many paranormal groups have investigated this place, including GH.  There was picture showing a "shadow person" near a doorway.  J&G debunked it.  PS had a forensic scientist that had a different opinion.  He stated that the "shadow" was free-standing and reflecting light.  PS showed this as "proof" that the picture may be real.  So…a couple thoughts on this:

Oddly enough, I won't debate the actual findings by their guy.  In true PS fashion, he is simply shown with the title "Forensic Scientist."  Ok, great…maybe that works for "Demonologist" but in this instance, we need more.  We need his credentials.  We don't know if he has general knowledge or if he has one or more fields of expertise.  We are also not privy to what type of experiments were performed or what techniques were used.  I have no idea what this guying is basing his opinion on.  And…I don't blame him.  PS is not a science show, does not pretend to be, or I think, even really care all that much about science.  So, of course, they will not give us enough information to even consider their expert's opinion.  Thus, it renders the guy's findings to a "it sounds interesting, but I can't really consider it" kind of a thing.

If this photograph is being issued as proof of the paranormal, then an independant team of scientists and experts need to examine it.  A group who won't mind doing a bit of "show and tell" on their experiments and techniques.  It's really the only way since I'm not a big fan of someone telling me about results without telling me how they got them.

And once again…we're back to the infamous "shadow people."  We've had a few threads on this topic.  I've given the subject some thought and looked around some paranormal websites.  I've yet to see any sort of scientific hypothesis that can even remotely hold water.  Typically, it's just a bunch of "gobbley-gook" on the "mystery that is energy."  Energy isn't so mysterious.  In fact, a great deal is known about it.  It could just be the fact that after being constantly pelted by these nonsensical paranormal shows that I'm just getting frustrated.  But man…if these people want me to consider such things as "shadow people"…they simply have to do better than "mysterious energy."
