I've been wanting to post this for a week…just didn't have a chance…
Last week, there was a very special episode of PS. It was an hour long and by far, one of the funniest ones that I've seen.
They went to West Virginia State Penitentiary. Many paranormal groups have covered this place. I think the first time I saw it was on MTV's "Fear." For those of you that missed it, it was a show where MTV hand-picked some college kids who were both literally and figuratively afraid of their own shadows and sent them into spooky places. The production crew definitely had a hand in making the places "spookier" and the fear generated in the kids was real. I loved that show and miss it.
Anyway, Ryan was at his very best. As the story goes…he had visited the penitentiary six months earlier (and without the PS crew for some reason) and had a mysterious and frightening experience. He wouldn't tell the rest of the team what had happened. This is how the show was to be built…the hero confronting his fears while leading his army into the gates of hell. Funny thing happened along the way…it didn't quite work out as he wanted it to.
The rest of crew was doing what they normally do while setting up…they were joking around. I don't think they realized that Ryan was building a story (which…let's be honest, it WAS just a story…). Ryan snaps. He chatizes them and punishes them. I was laughing the entire time.
So Ryan sends each of them out on their own deep in the bowels of the jail. And yes…they are all spooked. Go out in search of ghosts and any sound an old, decrepted building makes is suddenly confirmation of your fears.
Near the end…we are let in on the big mystery. Ryan and team are apparently the only ones allowed access to a certain portion of the building. In this section…an upside-down pentagram is built into an interior window frame (kind of a stained glass type of thing). I think that was supposed to send chills down my spine. I was supposed to cower in fear and believe with all my heart that this place is cursed and obviously haunted. I saw a window frame with broken glass. I don't know what the stained-glass window depicted while intact. The frame does have an upside-down pentagram shape in the middle of it. Was it on purpose? Was it meant as a symbol of anything? I would list it as "mildly curious" at best, but nothing of great importance. To them…it was like they had uncovered the throne of Satan himself.
So Ryan goes alone to confront whatever. And…shocker…not much happened. The curtain falls and Ryan's masterpiece is complete. He is the conqueror. An epic hero who emerges victorious against his imaginary foes. Epic…in every sense of the word…
Again…one of the funniest PS shows that I've seen. If you haven't seen it, try to make the effort. Never in a paranormal show have you seen a guy try everything that he can to steer an "investigation" in a particular direction. It's so painfully obvious as to what he's doing…it becomes memorizing. I would rate it a full step above GA's Zak being possessed.
The only thing that can possibly rival the ludicrous tone of the show is Elfie's hat. You know, the squat top-hat with the huge goggles on the front of them. In a way, I give Elfie points. She desperately desires to be "different" and that hat is the perfect vehicle for it. When Ryan's performance can out-do that hat…you know that he's really on his game…
