I thought this was interesting, since they already have GH and DT.  Not sure where this show is supposed to fit in.  Sounds like these guys are going to analyze evidence already caught.  Can you imagine what they will do with some of the evidence GH has on file?

Syfy announced it has ordered Paranormal Investigators, a new reality series that will follow a team of specialists as they attempt to uncover supernatural and paranormal occurrences caught on camera.

The series is currently slated to premiere Thursday, July 15 at 10PM ET/PT.

"Paranormal Investigators is a strong and natural fit for our growing Syfy reality slate and will be in great company alongside our successful Ghost Hunters franchise," said Syfy programming executive Mark Stern.

Paranormal Investigators' six-person team consists of leader former FBI Special Agent Ben Hansen, as well as Larry Caughlan, Jael de Pardo, Chi-Lan Lieu, Bill Murphy and Austin Porter.

In each episode, the team will first analyze and discuss potential cases by reviewing scenes and images captured on video and posted online by "eyewitnesses" from all over the world.

After agreeing on which needs further investigation, the team will attempt to see if it was real or a hoax by recreating images, carrying out scientific experiments, and searching for clues and evidence using the latest technology and investigative techniques.

"Paranormal Investigators will take viewers inside the creepy and mysterious world of paranormal behavior," said executive producer John Brenkus. "In each episode, investigators armed with the latest in high-tech equipment set out to uncover the truth behind compelling images, to dispel or prove their accuracy."

The tentatively-titled series is slated to begin filming its six-episode season this spring and is being produced by BASE Productions

I saw this the other day. It is actually American Paranormal revamped with two actresses, a film editor, an FBI agent who is also an actor and 2 other people. This Jael person was on Destination Truth. I had said before American Paranormal was never going to be a series on NatGeo. You can read about some of the actors who are going to be on the show from this siteI found. http://uk.imdb.com/news/ni1824312/  These actors are supposed to be using the latest technology and investigative techniques and carry out scientific experiments? Thats a joke and Syfy will never let them cross GH or any show on their channel.

Milk the Ghost Show craze udder till it's raw, dry and sore, is the tactic I'm seeing here.

From what I've been able to gather….American Paranormal (which I liked quite a lot), and Paranatural, which _seemed_ to be a followup to the AP duo of episodes, are alll part of a larger umbrella/series on NatGeo, called "Mysterious Science", I think.     I noticed this while digging around on NatGeo's rather infuriatingly designed website.    Even if this doesn't quite constitute a devotedly skeptical/real science-based, long running program, I still have to praise NatGeo for going against the grain and perhaps being the forerunner of what is sure to be a very harsh backlash against the ghost show plague that's afflicted cable television.

Anyway, real science and skepticism doesn't mix with Syfy…they tried it once before with some show, I can't remember the name, but it had a bunch of whiny louts, some skeptics, some believers…investigating/looking into the dumb new age crap of the week…and giving their opinion about it.  It didn't last long.

Honestly, since they cancelled Farscape and MST3K, I've found little reason to pay any attention to that shriveled shell of a network.   I refuse to even use it for watching GH and its spinoffs, lest I encourage the bad behavior.  I watch it all on youtube.

There was a change of leadership with the network in the early 2000s, and it's been a downward spiral ever since.  The "new" ceo, a woman who looks like a stripe of beef jerky wearing a marilyn monroe wig, essentially showed up and ruined everything.  Cancelled all their best shows, brought in ECW…. I didn't even like BSG, to be honest, though I know there are many who will site that as a counterargument.

It was a good show, but not good enough to make up for friggin ECW.

Yay for aimlessly tangentizing rants. Sorry folks, but its too late for me to backspace now..I'm going down with the ship. : )

Welcome Lloyd.  I assume you are the Lloyd of the website you linked.  Please, in the future if you decide to post again, it would be very helpful if you didn't re-post an entire previous post.  Merely posting the comment would have been sufficient with a direct link to the website since that is the purpose of this particular forum thread.

The following was taken directly from the SyFy press release:

"Paranormal Investigators (working title)—Premieres Thursday, July 15, at 10PM (ET/PT)—Debunks fact from fiction by uncovering the truth behind supernatural and unexplained occurrences which have been caught on tape. In each episode, the six-person team, led by former FBI special agent Ben Hansen, searches for the most intriguing and unusual images, videos and unnatural phenomenon found online and around the world. Selecting the most intriguing images, the team heads into the field attempting to recreate the video, carrying out key experiments and searching for clues and evidence. The team uses all the latest tools, CGI and investigative techniques at its disposal to try and answer the question, "Is it real?" Produced by Base Productions."

I'm just not sure why you think SyFy would ask for consent.  It's a moot point.  As you can see by SyFy's PR, they clearly state Paranormal Investigators is only a "working title" and the show being produced under this working title is the re-tooled American Paranormal which has already been produced by Base Productions and aired on NatGeo.  Using working titles is the norm and can change numerous times before being released or going on air.  This press release had to pass research and legal muster so I don't understand the purpose for your post other than to tout the website and make a point about a series title.  No one here is questioning the title, just the players and the content of yet another in a long string of tiring, non-creative "reality" television shows based on the overused paranormal genre.   And, for the record, I think I can safely say that SyFy would never have released the announcement of their new Thursday night paranormal line up without dotting all the i's and crossing all the t's.

Anyone interested can view the entire release on the new Thursday night line up here.

You can also enjoy three new shows on SyFy but only one is in the paranormal realm.  Here are a few snippets from their PR.  Love their description of the paranormal show.  I'm sure it will live up to the hype. Wink

"Utilizing the science of cooking, Marcel’s Quantum Kitchen stars one of America’s most notorious chefs, molecular gastronomist Marcel Vigneron (Top Chef)."

"Face Off is a competition/elimination series exploring the world of special-effects make-up artists and the unlimited imagination which allows them to create amazing works of living art."

"Paranormal Witness.  From Dimitri Doganis and Bart Layton, the acclaimed creative team behind Locked Up Abroad, this tense, cinematic, high-octane drama-documentary series brings to life the stories of people who have lived through paranormal experiences that defy explanation; from poltergeists to alien encounters. Using the mixture of intimate first-hand testimony and gritty realistic drama that the producers are known for, Paranormal Witness will take the audience into a world turned upside-down by extraordinary and terrifying events.  Paranormal Witness is a production of Raw TV. Executive Produced by Dimitri Doganis and Bart Layton."

Somehow I'm glad I turned off my cable, having read that, alii.  : )

"Molecular Gastronomist"?   You're not being facetious here, are you?

A wikipedia search later…and wow.  I guess this is a real term.  They weren't satisfied with being a chemist….or being a cook….or event with being a "cook who knows chem-foo"….  is there anything science can't make pompous and self-important? : )

As for this witness thing….I suspect I'm stating the obvious, but I'll go ahead and say it: Unsolved Mysteries and Sightings kinda beat them to the punch on this one almost 20 years ago…and it wasn't even the gimmick of the show.   Before the Ghost Hunters' Spawn plague, this is what paranormal shows _were_.

That said….it could be interesting and fun to watch.  Dramatizations of this stuff are always much more fun to watch than their actual documentation (for obvious reasons), and…for me, really what makes this stuff fun.  Science and skepticism have no place around the campfire, or in that sleeping bag you instinctively cower into when you hear a weird sound in the darkness–this is where this stuff belongs.

Hopefully whoever's making the show knows this too…and knows to punch it up a bit.   I doubt they'll beat Unsolved Mysteries or Sightings at this game, though.

Random tangent: Is it just me, or are the intro themes/sequences for these para-shows getting crappier over time?  UM and Sightings (and even Arthur C. Clarke's Mysterious World) just seem to have had so much more haunting and memorable intros….

Thanks all after a discussion with NBC they have removed a copyright and trademarked working title that belongs to Post Mortum Paranormal Investigators called "Paranormal Investigators" which was ours since 2006.Base Productions was not the creator.NBC has changed the name of their show as per our agreement to Fact or Fiction Paranormal Files.
