Please excuse me if someone has mentioned this already.

While watching NatGeo last night, I saw promos for a new series called "Beast Hunter", premiering March 4 at 9 pm.

http://channel.nationalgeograp…..l/Overview

This series appears to be going over a lot of ground that was covered by Josh & company.  First up is the Beast Man of Sumatra (Orang Pendek, covered by DT and also being seriously investigated by researchers).  The Mongolian Death Worm, familiar to DT watchers, will also be investigated.  Other subjects are:

Nightmare of the Amazon (a one-eyed monster!)

Swamp Monster of the Congo (Mokele-mbembe, a creature I believe Josh concluded does not exist)

Sea Serpent of the North (another water monster, this time off the coast of British Columbia)

According to the series web page:

"Beast Hunter is hosted by Pat Spain, a biologist and explorer who

travels the globe in search of mythical creatures, immersing himself

amongst the tribes, people and cultures on his quest to find the truth

between fact and fiction."

It appears that Pat's great uncle Charles Fort was an interesting and adventurous soul in his own right.  His story is worth a look:

The series looks interesting, and is an obvious offshoot of DT.  I've always said that DT would have been better off if that show was on NatGeo.  It will be interesting to see how a similar production is produced by NatGeo minus the SyFy treatment.

Interesting.  It can't be any worse than Beast Legends!  Unfortunately I don't get NatGeo here, although I'd be very happy to trade in about 23 channels I never watch for it.

Does appear to be some repeats of what DT has done, but then there are only so many "cryptids" out there to go after so that's natural.  And like I've said in various GA, GHI, etc posts, I don't really mind repeat investigations.  It's always interesting to see how another group tackles the case and what they find.  The more eyes the better as long as they don't just go off the deep end in their investigations.

I think we've discussed a few times before how it would be better for Josh if he got away from the ghosts, got off the SciFi channel and approached things with a little less desire to "wow" the lowest common denominator viewer.

Just recalled that MonsterQuest also went after this beast:

We don't have NatGeo here either…however for the first time they have listed a free NatGeo program on Comcast on Demand….and it is the first episode of "Beast Hunter:  Orang Pendek".

I haven't been able to watch it through to the end….but as much as I did see, Spain is no Gates.  More earnest, less wry and definitely high on the eye candy scale.  Sounds quite a bit like Jeff Corwin.  Beautiful production values and usual witnesses, Debbie Martyr, Jeremy Holden included.  In fact, there is a degree of disingenuousness in the suggestion that they were unaware of Debbie until some guy in the market gives them her name and address.

To flesh it out, Xfinity offers five other shows on cryptids, part of the "Is It Real?" series, and they are pretty good.
