Phil Plait has been tormenting us all for some time with his "sooper seekrit" [sic] project, and finally the trailer is out.

It's called "Bad Universe", and it seems to be a mix between his book Death From The Skies!, "Cosmos", and "Mythbusters". Think of it as EarthBusters, I guess. Each episode would cover another way that the Bad Universe could kill us all, and have Phil demonstrating it with large amounts of explosives.

EDITED: Fixed bad link.

Couldn't find anything yet on when it airs but at least it's on Discovery which is a step up from SciFi! Interesting trailer. And quite appropriately, I just found this story:

Can't view the trailer-it says the video was removed by owner. I'll look elswhere.

The crater was intersting. It didn't say when it was discovered, just that a group of people went out in 2010 to study it. It doesn't look like a crater to me. Not sure why-I'm no crater expert- but it's just the first thing that came to mind when I saw the picture of  it. Maybe it's just the angle that it was photographed from.

Found about 20 different sites (before I gave up lol) claiming to have the trailer but they all linked to that youtube one. Discovery, itself, has nothing on it so I'm guessing the release of the trailer wasn't quite supposed to happen yet!

Edited: Hang tight…from the guy himself…"[UPDATE: D'oh! There was a problem with the video, and Discovery is in the process of fixing it. It should be back up soon.]"

If they start blowin' things up then it will be fun to watch. Otherwise, it seems a little 'cheezy', and maybe aimed towards kids. It will probably just end up scaring the s**t out of them!

From the trailer, it looks to me like things blow up real good.

This was on last night, and I had not realized that it was the show discussed here until it started.  There really was nothing new presented, just a repackage it seemed.  All the theories, data, information was pretty much old that has been featured in many other places, including countless other Discovery and History Channel programs, not to mention various papers etc.  The only thing really going for it was the actual blowing up of things rather than simulating them with CGI. That in itself is enough to keep me watching :)

Learjet…you may want to move, Sydney appears to be a very distinct target!

I have to disagree with the grade given for the iron-nickel asteroids.  He gave a D+ I think to the results from nuking them.  The reason I disagree is that there was virtually no ejecta, thus you could hit it which would result in a trajectory change AND not have the problem of having created a whole bunch of shrapnel that could start raining down on the planet.

Oh, and: holy haleakala

That's alright, I'm nowhere near Sydney. An asteroid impact in the Coral Sea would not be good for me though.
