Here's a sensational little tidbit on Zombies and how their brains work. It's a weird and quirky piece written about an assistant professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and his views. Kind of intertesting. Enjoy:
http://io9.com/5286145/a-harvard-psychiatrist-explains-zombie-neurobiology
Kind of interesting that there is no mention of "The Serpent And The Rainbow" and Wade Davis.

Nice to know that if the time ever comes, that we can negotiate with the zombies with a bottle of Metamucil.
Thanks for the info Rev.
I'm going to stick a bottle of it in my bug-out bag.
Just in case.

Excellent to know that you are preparing for the inevitable Zombie invasion. I am curious to know what else is in your "bug-out bag."

Thanks for those links Revenant. I almost thought I was a zombie there for awhile until I read the last few lines. Nope! Guess not. I too want to know what else is in that "bug-out bag" Blinddog. Not fair pleading the 5th!

You know, zombies and neurologists have a lot in common. They spend all day wandering around talking about brains.

blinddog,
Thanks for the laugh! I needed that.
Also the article. My family doctor is a horror/science fiction fan and we discuss all kinds of crazy stuff. I think he would enjoy this immensely.
Now, as to whether or not zombies exist…nah, don't need to go there ;)

Blinddog,
You never cease to amaze! That is so funny.
Edit:
Made me think of an incident around where I live:
"Austin drivers making their morning commute were in for a surprise when two road signs on a busy stretch of road were taken over by hackers. The signs near the intersection of Lamar and Martin Luther King boulevards usually warn drivers about upcoming construction, but Monday morning they warned of "zombies ahead."

If you wanted more proof of the inevitable Zombie invasion…I present to you…Zombie Spiders:
http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2009/04/090424-spider-resurrection-coma-drowning.html
And…this is no joke. Quite odd actually. I love when I'm reading something about nature or science and then happen upon the following sentence; "That's when things began to get weird." You know something really cool is coming and no one knows what is going on. It reminds me of one of my favorite quotes from Isaac Asimov:
"The most exciting phrase to hear in science, the one that heralds new discoveries, is not 'Eureka!' but 'That's funny…'"
Truer words never spoken. I've been fortunate to have a couple of moments like that in my career. Some ground-breaking moments. And it was never "Eureka!" or the famous yell of "It's alive!" It's more like "Hmmm….yeah…that shouldn't….um….I don't…um….yeah…I don't know what that's all about. That shouldn't….yeah…let's do that again and see what happens!" And then you start giggling like a little kid on Xmas eve. It's never like it is in the movies.

Sorry Revenant,
Can't open that link. I don't want those nightmares again. But I do have a funny story. My sister, while working as a tech for our friend and local vet at the time, had a client come in with a rather large glass tank which held his pet, a tarantula. When she questioned him as to why he brought in the spider, he proceeded to say that there was something wrong because it wasn't as active recently and didn't appear to be eating much. My sister called in the vet (she's no fool) who came in, took a look at the spider, lifted the lid very carefully and inserted a pencil in an attempt to see the spider move. He tapped one leg and nothing happened. Then he proceeded to tap another leg and it fell off. He immediately put the lid back on and told the guy. Well, here's my diagnosis "dead spider syndrome". After he left, they went in the back room and, as sad as they were for the client for his loss, they had quite a good laugh but not about the death of the spider but that they both could actually keep a straight face when the pronouncement was made.

Our friends over at Harvard are REALLY into Zombies it seems considering the original story that started this thread also came from Harvard.
Here's another Harvard professor with his study on how a fungal parasite turns ants into zombies:
http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2009/08/090811161345.htm
It states "The fungus accurately manipulates the infected ants into dying where the parasite prefers to be, by making the ants travel a long way during the last hours of their lives." Man…I thought ants only had to worry about ant-eaters and kids with magnifying glasses…

Hmmm… just think of the possibilities. There are probably researchers in the government right now working on how they can adapt the abilities of these fungi to control the human population. Wait–that's already being done. It's called TV.

Well, it's not the U.S. government, but I did just find that some Canadian mathematicians created a mathematical model for surviving a Zombie attack…
http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2009/08/zombies/
Apparently the key is to "hit hard and hit often." Thanks for that. So…showing them old episodes of "Dr. Phil" and serving them cookies is out then? Glad to see that these Canadian mathematicians have their thinking caps on tight…
"Zombies in science"…can you tell that's one of my favorite themes?

As I am reading these postings, I am looking at the book my zombie-obsessed husband just finished, "The Zombie Survival Guide". Sadly, he has become the "zombie-expert" amongst his friends. They frequently call to ask for his advice in various zombie scenarios. I'm sure he will be excited when I send the link to him.

Well…there are two kinds of people in this world. Those that will survive the inevitable Zombie attack and those doomed to become Zombies. It is good to hear that your husband is taking the proper steps to prepare. The links within this thread are really a public service to those willing to understand Zombies and to better equip themselves against them, both mentally and physically. Why more people choose not to face this crisis…I shall never understand…

I really don't want to be a zombie so maybe all of my husband's research will not be a waste of time. Thanks for putting that into perspective for me. Maybe I should read the book he got for me…. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. It says on the front page that it is the classic regency romance- now with the ultraviolent zombie mayhem. Maybe my husband is just way ahead of our time……
