There are many facets of the paranormal that fascinate me for different reasons.  I am always curious as to what people believe and why they believe it.  The more outlandish something is, the more interested I become as to the reasons behind their belief.

Recently, I've been looking into the "very nature" of ghosts.  Not people's beliefs as to "what" they are, as much as "why" they even exist.  It seems that the predominant theory is that a person suffered some sort of deep trauma (either during death or just prior).  It is this event that somehow links the ghost (spirit, entity, energy, etc.) to a particular location.

A relatively new theory is gaining some traction in the paranormal community.  Due to advancements in science over that past 40 years, some people are now leaning towards the parallel universe theory.  The gist is that a mulitude of parallel universes our over-lapping upon our known universe.  In these brief encounters, we are mistaking "inter-dimensional beings" as ghosts.

I've read some of the arguments supporting this theory.  They are very…colorful.  I will not link to any of them because, well…a couple of reasons.  First, I give them all the credit in the world for at least trying to use science to understand such a topic as ghosts.  Second, in a way, I can't blame them.  I have a feeling where all this is coming from.  I've seen all the science shows on the History Channel too.  Seeing ultra-oversimplified versions of mega-complicated scientific theories can certainly lead one down the path of "what if…"  I can definitely see where they are getting their "theories" from.

Yet, while looking at all of these inter-dimensional ghost theories, one did stand out.  I found this link only because it included the word "paranormal" in the brief description.  It takes this theory to an entirely different level.  You, yourself, can actually become an inter-dimensional being galavanting across the unknown universes…I kid you not…

Um….yeah…

After reading all that…I had to find out more.  Scroll down to maybe 2/3's of the page and look for the heading of "Scum of the Minute."  It will also explain why you shouldn't have clicked on the links or given out your email.

As I said before, many facets of the paranormal fasinate me for different reasons.  And Burt Goldman is now one of my favorites.  He's seen the expanding market for the paranormal.  He's understood the growing trend in people believing the concept of inter-dimensional travel.  And he's come up with a product to profit from it.  It's brilliant really.  It's funny though, I don't remember reading if snake oil ever gave someone the ability to jump from universe to universe.  The marvels of modern science…

Sometimes I envy those who lack the scruples which would prevent them from taking money from the gullible.  Somtimes.

But more broadly, solving one unknown with another might be interesting, but gets us no closer to the truth.

Hmmm…you mean like psychics and mediums?  Yep, I agree…in fact, just the other day I caught Sylvia Brown for a moment on some day time talk show.  Just dreadful…yet many were eating it up like candy.

As for Burt…I can't really blame him.  He's just putting out a product.  It's up to the public whether or not they want to buy it.  I guess that's what saddens me.  Instead of legitimate charities, medical research, or a host of excellent causes, people choose to give money to Burt for his inter-dimensional travel package.

And you're absolutely right about "solving one unknown with another might be interesting, but gets us no closer to the truth."  But then again, Burt isn't after the truth, only your credit card number…

I watch a lot of PBS and I don't think I will ever understand string theory.  So overlapping parallel universes– akin to dimensions? Time travel, different times running, which according to physics is possible I have been assured.  I will admit, with much visual aid, I can understand that in theory, but hard to wrap my head around.  Don't even get me started on the Big Bounce Theory which was also explained at the same time.

That could possibly account for personal stories of people who had seem to step momentarily back in time.  I wish I could remember the name of the book, but it was a collection of "true" paranormal stories from Virginia if memory serves.

At any rate, a person is driving out in the country, stopping at a little country store.  He walks in and everything was like around the turn of the century; including the people in the store, etc.  He received funny looks from the people in the store and left fairly quickly.  I don't recall if he bought anything or not.  However, a couple of months later, he tried to find the place again and couldn't. . .he found the road, but it was different and the store was no longer there.

Another story from a different source:   workers in an old building stepping out of the elevator in the basement of the building only to encounter a Civil War era surgical team working on the wounded.  It included "real" looking people, sound and smell.

I enjoy history so the theory of time travel has always appealed.  I think I got somewhat off topic, but Burt didn't get my credit card number.

I love time travel movies and the paradoxes involved. I can't really wrap my head around them either but they are still fun to watch.

Hey, I'm right with you when it comes to complicated theories.  Having a degree in chemistry does me absolutely no good when it comes to theoretical physics.  In fact, it may make things worse…  Laughing

According to only paranormal websites, it seems parallel universes and alternate dimensions are the same thing.  I personally believe that they are actually two different concepts that have been merged in an effort to explain particular paranormal events.

As for time travel, I am unsure.  Long ago, I had a discussion on this topic with a couple of physicists.  The only way that they could see time travel being possible was with the aid of a "time machine."  They highly doubted that something like that could simply exist in nature as we know it.  As for the time machine itself, if one could be built…and that is one awful giant "if"…one would only be able to travel as far back as the time machine itself.  For instance, you built the time machine on a Tuesday.  It is now Thursday.  You would be able to travel back to Tuesday, but not further, like Monday.  Of course, this is just what a couple of physicists came up with while drinking a great deal of rum.  Smile
