This is the seventh year of an international photo competition that honors the world's most extraordinary microscope images of life science subjects.  This competition is sponsored by Olympus and gives us a closer look into nature and an insight for most of us into an unseen universe.  You can see the winning 10 and 10 of 66 photos which won honorable mention here.

"Microscope images forge an extraordinary bond between science and art," said Osamu Joji, Olympus America's Vice President and General Manager for the Scientific Equipment Group.

Here is a link for the competition where you can visit the entire winner's gallery.

Some really nice pictures in the gallery! Too bad I didn't have a camera attached to the microscope I had when I was growing up, I could post a whole bunch of not-very-colorful, slightly blurry pictures of what ultimately was lint on the slide cover :)

Okay, no, my observations weren't THAT bad!

I used to take microscope photos but nothing like that. Amazing.
