That IS odd, although I could probably come up with a sequence of events where that would happen. Train comes, people scatter without knowing what happened and head home. Hmmm, no, wouldn't you want to make sure everyone was alright, though? That is…find out what happened? I would. Or was this a disjoint group of people where not everyone knew everyone else? I think I'd still hang around, especially since, given that you just saw a real train, it means that your mission to find the ghost train wasn't over yet… Or will the excuse be that the ones who fled thought it WAS the ghost train and were so scared they ran?

Knowing well the area and the residents, the waiting for the 'ghost train' is the social soiree of the year.

Urgent call of nature often happens after accidents. Might be why they didn't hang around.

They might not have even known there was an accident until later.  A bunch of people are hanging out on train tracks at night.  A train comes, so they (sensibly) decide to go home, only to find out later that one of them was a little slow.  When they were leaving everyone might have just assumed that the absent person was with someone else.  I mean, the alternative would be to assume that someone would just stand on the tracks and watch as the train mowed them down.  Obviously, there are people that… um, "special", but you can see and hear a train coming for miles at night, and there probably wasn't any good reason for the others to think one of their group would be in any danger.

@ Wallydraigle -

Hey Wally, welcome back.  I meant to say that the last time that you posted.  Smile

Ok, um…I know what you're saying, but…I guess my problem is that I'm just not like that.  I'm in a group, something weird happens (a train comes and people have to get out of the way)…I'm sticking around and making sure that everyone in the group is good to go.  Even if I just met them that night…they're still in "MY" group (even if I'm not the "leader") out in the forest and in the dark.  I'm not walking away until the head-count is done.

So now…if I'm the police…and you left MY crime scene (after all, it is up to me and me alone to declare it either an accident or a crime) without my permission?  YOU ARE IN SOME TROUBLE!  I now start wondering why you left.  I start looking at this whole thing a bit more carefully.  Let's start taking all the measurements.  Let's also get those background checks going on everyone there that night.  Oh…and you and me…we're going to be having a nice long chat down at the station.  People claim "ghost train," somebody dies, and people are leaving the scene?  Oh…I would be ramping up this investigation a few notches…

Yeah…me with a badge and a gun?  Tell me that's not a nightmare… Laughing

CNN's report on this notes that some people fled because they were tesspassing, so I suppose they were afraid they'd be arrested?  But by no means is that an excuse to run away like they did.

First, what if they guy who was killed was the "new guy", a quiet loner from the "other" side of town.  Didn't come with anyone and no one notices he's missing?   Ok that is a stretch, but ….

Second, I was thinking about it, and I think LearJet is REALLY on to something!!!!!!!  A new show "GHH – Ghost Hunter Hunters"

I can picture it now…Set up some trap camera's around a supposed haunted graveyard… Lead them all into a pit filled with pungi sticks.  Lead them there by setting up hidden speakers giving false EVP's, put flashlights on the ground that turn on by themselves on the path to the pit…   Set up something that will fool KII's so they thing they are coversing with someone.  (In this case they will, but it will be a  live person, not  a dead one).  Have something that is shaped like a ghost give off a heat signature just past the pit (I don't know what, but could probably find something ina  halloween store)…   Lead them until  ::SNAP::   Got 'em!

I'd pay good money to watch that  :-D

I've found that being AWESOME is a full time job…
