I posted this story as a follow up to 'TV Changing Channels'. but I hope no one minds if I give it it's own thread – I think it's a good example of how one can read a lot into something or find a reasonable explanation.

There is nothing particularly spooky about our house, other than it is old and has nooks and crannies here and there.  We found it a little over a year ago and it was love at first sight.  We bought it from a minister who was in his 80's. We met him several times prior to purchasing the home.  He was always sitting in a big recliner and watching baseball on an old tv with an antennae.  He lived alone at that point.  I know his wife died in the house while under hospice care with-in the last decade.  In the 1950's, they also lost a baby daughter.  That's sad, but not scary.  And if anyone would move onto heaven or a higher plane of being or wherever, it would be a minister's wife, so I've never worried about the two deaths in the house. (Although our realtor started having a conniption when the minister showed up during our first viewing and shared the story of his wifes dying in the bedroom with us!!  I thought he might faint – the realtor I meanWink)

One afternoon,  my husband and I had been cleaning the house in preparation for guests to arrive. We were listening to music 'on demand' on the television.  I went into the bathroom (which is a few steps down the hall from the living room) to curl my hair.  At some point, I noticed that I was no longer listening to music, but rather to a baseball game.  I thought this was strange, because my husband doesn't watch baseball.  Then I heard the lawnmover turn on.  My husband wasn't in the house!  I stepped into into the living room and the tv was tuned into a local station (one that you don't need cable in order to watch) and a ball game was on.  I didn't know what to think.  My mind turned immediately to the former home owner and the way that he sat on his chair watching baseball through all the hours of the home inspection and during our other appt's at the house.

I was perplexed and a little alarmed.  What if the man had died and his ghost was here watching television?  But I knew that there HAD to be a reasonable explanation.  I searched for the remote and found it stuffed between the couch cushions. It was pointed in the general direction of the television.

My hypothesis?  The pressure of the cushions compressed a couple of buttons on the remote (maybe the 'back' button) and switched the stations.  But, it got me wondering just enough to ask the neighbors how our home's former owner was doing.  Turns out that he's doing fine.  So I guess it wasn't his 'ghost' changing the channels!
