I've been meaning to post this…just never got around to it.
If you haven't heard, a massive Ice Age fossil site was recently discovered in Colorado.
Here's a decent overall article about it:

People are comparing it, or the significance of it, to the La Brea Tar Pits in California. That's pretty strong and perhaps a bit premature. After all, La Brea is a National Natural Landmark.
Speaking of the significance of the find, here's a bit more on the science aspect of it:

They actually had the new fossils (an odd term "new fossils"…) on display:

As you can see in that article, they were on display. Of course, no one really knew about it, including me. Great. Not sure what the point of that was. We'll have the fossils on display for one day, we'll tell no one, and then squirrel them away. Killin' me…anyway…
The site should be closing soon. They had the good fortune of a very unseasonable warm fall in which to work the dig. But…winter is creeping on us and the ground is freezing up. Have to wait until to spring. That has to be killing the scientists. You find such an amazing discovery and it's right down the road, yet…you can't access for at least a few months. After all, Snowmass is a ski resort. Going to be a very popular one in the coming years.
Anyway, if and hopefully when they find anything new or cool or amazing, I'll try and update this thread. And whenever they put the fossils back on display…and actually tell people…I'll definitely go and check them out so I can report back here.
