Okay I've spammed a few other forums with my "video slideshow" (isn't that an oxymoron?) so may as well spam this one too lol.

Features some of my best astronomy photos, many taken with film and homemade telescopes. I can't begin to describe the lengths I've gone to, to get some of these photos. I ground the mirrors, built the tubes out of wood, and scavenged the motor drives from old cassette recorders. The exposures are long for deep sky, 45 minutes for the Horse Head nebula. These are not computer driven scopes, all tracking is done manually, usually with me half up side down to get to the eyepiece of these big scopes. No wonder I have arthritis now days lol.

Thanks Learjet, very enjoyable to watch.  I was quite impressed with that Mars shot!  Which comets were those?

Very cool, my friend.  And the Horse Head nebula shot…worth it.  That was awesome.

Only a couple of issues.  No shots of Elle Macpherson and my name isn't mentioned anywhere.  But besides those two things…it was really impressive… Smile

Hehheh, thanks. I'll try and include Elle Macpherson next time. Wink

The comets are Hale-Bopp, Halley, Hyakutake, T7 LINEAR and Q4 NEAT. More text is available under the "show more" button under the video.

If one of those was Halley's that's really good.  When Halley's came around the last time (I missed the time before!) I was viewing using a surveying transit…it was great for locking in on the alt-az, but just didn't quite have the magnification necessary for how faint it was.  You got a much better view!

Yeah I believe Halley favoured the southern hemisphere most of the time. It's peak brightness also happened earlier than predicted and in the early hours of the morning, so most people missed it.

I have even better shots of it but they need scanning. I may even do a special tribute to Halley's Comet as I have many good photos of it.

Really cool Learjet! I am very envious that you can even see the stars and then some! Out where I live, we have a ton of light pollution and you can barely make out the Big Dipper and Orion.

Yep LP sux. You can buy LP filters but nothing beats a dark sky.
