I forced myself to watch Monsterquest again last night.
Some people are claiming sauropods are still lurking in the wilds of Africa, and the locals claim to have seen them on occasion. Of course, Monsterquest failed to come up with any proof (surprise, surprise).
They put down a fish-finder, and claimed 'giant hits' underwater. Since this river only measured about six feet down, how could an enormous dinosaur lurk in its 'depths'? But it was too murky to see in the water. (of course). And they also claimed the holes dug in the side of the riverbanks were 'dinosaur air-holes', and "darn, if we had the right equipment, we could dig further, we'd find hibernating dinosaurs below the surface."
Uh. Okay.

I think the camera they had that showed the fish camera was taking better pictures! I also found it funny how the guy was all excited about how big that hole was (as he kept enlarging it with the shovel!)
Also funny how the other guy was excited about the footprint that was 3 feet in _circumference_ Let's see…C=2*PI*R 1/R=(2*PI)/3 Math cranking, okay, diameter under a foot? Weren't they showing pictures of someone straddling his legs out just to show have his feet at opposite ends of the print? Did this fellow mean diameter, not circumference? Am I being too nit-picky?
I will give them this, though…they didn't find anything. I'd rather watch 45 Monsterquests that came up empty than one Ghost show (and I am talking in general here) that resorted to making a big deal out of something that wasn't.

Did you notice the 'plaster casts' they had presented to the dinosaur expert? They looked mighty little to belong to an actual dinosaur, and the paleontologist pretty much dismissed them.
Why is it when I watch these shows my mind keeps drifting. This time I was thinking that this would have made a darn funny episode of 'Friends', with Monsterquest hiring Joey 'find' living dinosaurs, and Ross having a fit.

Were those little ones the ones that were supposed to be 3 feet in circumference? I thought that other guy was referring to a different set of tracks, but who knows! lol
I wonder if the little tracks could have been babysauros

I saw the show too. Well, parts of it. Here's a graph to better illustrate what they are trying to find (and by the way, that's me in the picture):

I think the graph sort of puts things into perspective. And keep in mind, there would have to be many of these wandering about in order to maintain a breeding population. I mean, do I want there to be sauropods roaming around in Africa? Of course I do. It would be spectacular. Do I believe that there is a possibility of such a thing? Well, I think I'd be better off buying a lottery ticket. Better odds…
And Nosfer…I thought the same thing about that guy digging the hole. Give him a bulldozer and the hole would be absolute proof…

Mary,
Thanks for the thread. I didn't see the episode but not surprised at all there was no proof. Think they actually dug their own hole on that one.
Revenant and Nosfer,
I agree. Wouldn't it be spectacular to see sauropods anywhere? And baby sauropods? An amazing sight to be sure. About as amazing as my winning the lottery. Well, it's a 50-50 shot so………..
And Revenant, nice to see your picture on wikimedia! Now we can all claim you are our "good friend"!

And as you can tell by my skin tight clothes, I've been working out. Thanks for noticing.
And yes, all of you are my "good friends." Well, half of you are. Hmmm…maybe only some of you are. Actually, only a couple of you are. Come to think of it, I don't like any of you. In fact, none of you probably even exist and this forum is probably only a figment of my imagination anyway. Oh, hold on, time for my medication…

Revenant.
I thought we explained to you. NEVER ACKNOWLEDGE THAT WE ARE IMAGINARY.
Now we'll have to make you have that dream again.

I fully believe there are sauropods in Africa.
Saw them in those King Kong movies, all three of them, so it's gotta be true.
