Following is a link to an article in our local paper regarding the filming in September of the recently aired Jersey Devil episode.

Thanks alicat for the link. I'm sorry to say that I missed this episode of Monsterquest because I do find most of the shows interesting. This article gave a bit of insight to the show, and I'm glad to see that the guys in it had a good time with it.
For those of you that have seen this episode, how was it?

Hi, I am in the midst of preparing a review of the show, and hopefully Logisti will approve it.
For those of us in NJ, it's about time MonsterQuest addressed this fascinating creature.
Alicat: thanks for the article. I don't think the show ever showed Dave Fanz's name, so I was at a loss how to spell it. I hate mispelling people's names but am only human!
P.S. We must not live all that far apart. PM me if you like…..

I also appreciated taking a look at that article. It was great to hear that the guys that participated had a good time. I thought of the article while I watched last nights show on "Alligators in the New York Sewers." Hmmm…which would I rather do? Walk about the forrest with 60 friends on a Sunday morning or crawl around the sewers of New York? When I think about it, I would probably rather do almost anything else than crawl around sewers…especially New York.
And speaking of the Alligator show…did anyone else have a good laugh at the very end of the show when they showed the salamander? Like "Oh, we found that so…there 'could' be hope…" Um, yes, of course. I can make the leap from a 3 inch salamander to a 14 foot gator. Why wouldn't a salamander that probably just fell in a sewer grate raise hopes of finding a 1000 pound alligator? It's all so obvious to me now…

They are re-running this episode right now on MQ. Living in NJ and along the Pine Barrens for quite some time, this has to be the one Piney family that doesn't own a gun. Well at least the "hunters" could figure out what they saw was merely a NJ white tail deer running through the forest. They also gave an excellent description of the Great Horned Owl which has a wing span of 5', yellow eyes, snapping beak – very similar to what they saw which could be totally exaggerated in the course of being frightened by seeing something unexpected in the night.
Finally, I'm embarrased for Rutgers.

Even my 9 yr. old niece thought this show was horrible. No doubt at all it was a Great Horned Owl. Not one thing in their description would suggest otherwise, esp. since at night it is easy to overestimate the size of objects.
Right after the first airing of this show I had contacted that Audubon Society guy by email regarding his belief that they saw an owl, but he never replied. Now I think it was probably because of the contract he had to sign. But it seemed he had no doubt it was a bird.

Agreed Oubliette. It was a waste of tape. And the guy they hired to make the replica makes his living creating "monster" masks and sculptures so he certainly had a lot to draw from. Did you notice the woman's new "do" when she looked at the recreation? Wonder how long it took?

At the last Chiller Theatre in Parsippany (there's one going on this weekend but we couldn't make it) the sculptor and his creation were one of the attractions. He did a great job and the end product looked like a good monster to make a movie around, but not as the Jersey Devil.
Guess the woman was already spending some of the money she received from being on the show to get her hair done for her final appearance. Wonder if Weird NJ had an article about this show? Might pick up some more background info.
