I see other show that have equipment that can tell what a ghost is saying vice using the EVP. Wouldn't something like that help out with the investigation faster instead of listening to the recorders. How about using cam mounted camera on the hats of the investigators to actually catch what they might be seeing, that way they will have more evidence for the client. Something small that can fit on the bill of the cap. I watch GH every Wed. night, Jay and Grant are more convincing than the other show GHI. More relaxed, likes to joke and have real jobs, plus they have TAPS. The other seems to uptight, too serious, plus 2 people on there that I can't stand Brain and Andy they think act like they know it all. Everybody else is cool.
One more thing; a place called Moon River in Atlanta Georgia is said to be the scariest place in Georgia, why don't TAPS check that out. It is said, that there is a ghost there that will possess a person, leave marks on people and other things.

GH actually HAS investigated the Moon River Brewing Company (it's in Savannah, not Atlanta)…their findings (a black form running back and forth behind a pool table) have been discussed in detail in a few different posts on this board…most recently in the Halloween All Access Revisited. With a few exceptions, we are in agreement that the evidence has been tainted by Jason not telling the full story (in fact the main GH supporter seems to agree with that, too, in the discussions)
As far as head-cams, they did use them once. As to why they don't use them more often, well, my own particular feeling is that it's a lot better to say "Wazzzzzat" and have a production camera pointing AT you as you point, than to show a head-cam shot in the direction where you were looking and have it end up being the nothing that it probably is 99 times out of a hundred (and I'm being generous with using such a low number as 99)
And as far as the real time "what's the ghost saying?" devices, well, I think there needs to be a LOT more testing on them to see what they are really reporting as being said before I'd used them in the field. Someone in here (Rev?) posted a nice description of something very similar that you could buy, some of us looked at it in detail and read the specs and they are full of caveats that this is basically a novelty item and not suitable for small children because it may swear.

Hi chefjosemike,
Welcome to this site. You are asking some very valid questions- ones we've been kicking around here for quite some time. If you are starting to ask these questions then you have certainly come to the right place to find answers. I strongly encourage you to read, read and then read some more around this site. Start anywhere in the Skeptics Library (top of the page and on the right..) and then follow wherever your interests take you. This is a wonderful place filled with incredible information and insight! And some of the smartest and funniest people out there! Enjoy! And if you need more direction or specific answers feel free to fire away. :)

That would be the "Behold…The Mighty Ovilus" thread.
Now I believe what Chefjosemike is referring to, and by the way…welcome to the site Chefjosemike, is the device that we've seen a couple of times on Ghost Adventures. It seems like the same type of device, but it also includes a pair of darkened glasses that are attached to the device as well. Since Zak, from GA, hasn't said the actual name of the product, I've had some trouble tracking it down. The device itself doesn't interest me all that much as it seems to be a simple word generator. The theory that ghosts manipulate certain energy levels in order to chose the right word, well…lets just say I need a great deal of scientific evidence that can explain that process to me in order to take it as "fact." In any event, I am very curious about those glasses though. They seem to infer that they are IR glasses. If this is the case, I'd really like to see the specs (no pun) on them.
Also, Brian and Andy left GH quite a while ago. Both went on to GHI and left that show as well. Andy, who I personally like, may come back to GHI in some point in time. It is unknown if he will. Brian, however, I believe has left TAPS completely. I swear I read that somewhere here on the board. If I am incorrect, then I'm sure someone here can correct me.
Hmmm…and I'm shocked that no one has used the "New equipment? They can't even properly use the equipment that they have now" line yet. Then again, it's the lazy, hazy days of summer…

LOL! No truer words were ever said.
I'm sure Brian is gone from TAPS permanently, and has been gone for quite some time. The pure hatred that Jason apparently has for him will insure those two won't be investigating together again.
I hope the OP is not talking about the Telephone to The Dead device. At least most of the other instruments at least look valid, but that ridiculous contraption belongs in a carnival sideshow.
Yeah, headcams would take a lot of the drama out of it, wouldn't they? I noticed how they made it seem that they are too much trouble to wear. IMO when Britt (was it Britt? can't remember) put one on and started complaining from the get go, I knew that this little bit of drama was for the benefit of the many viewers who have been writing all over the Internet as to why they don't use this piece of equipment. Soo.."it's too heavy and clumsy, see??? Why, it feels like it weights 10 lbs! So would you viewers please shut up now and leave us alone so we can continue to mislead the public?"

Well, to my understanding, they have yet to prove that ghost's really exist. Without that, how can they POSSIBLY say they have a device that can translate Ghost-to-English, in real time no less?

Well…yeah…and there's that…
Oubliette- You're dead-on about Britt drumming up drama about the head-camera only to silence critics. My view? If David Letterman, in the early 1980's, could develop the Monkey Cam…I'm pretty sure in 2009 we could develop something to put on the head of a Ghost Hunter…

They needs to gets those lighter headcams that DT uses…not even Ryder was complaining (at least not about camera weight) :)

Ah Ryder. Haven't heard her mentioned in a long time or ever come to think of it. Could be wrong because it's been so long since DT. I can't wait for the fall but I'm still quite disappointed in Josh from our previous GH discussions. Ryder whined and complained constantly but you are right, never about the camera weight. So, you see it can be done. Why not? I think we all know that answer.

GHI has occasionally used Super-Hearing-Headphones introduced by Robb a while back. He explained that the amplifiers let you hear things you normally would not, and they also have a hookup that allows you to record from them, rather then simply listening.
Now there are a lot of instances when a team member hears something, but it is not recorded and simply becomes a personal experience.
SO -
How about cutting out the headphone portion of these gadgets, leaving just the microphones on a small headband ( Dustins hat would work fine ) and the recorders on a belt ? They could be on and recording for the entire investigation.
When anyone says " Did you hear that ?" these supersensitive ears would have picked up AND recorded it – you now have evidence rather then a personal experience.

Dustin's hat would work well for a satellite dish. I bet he could TAP into HBO and Showtime if he would just tilt it more to the left.

@ The Doctor,
Nice thought but won't happen even if technically possible. Why? Because there is nothing to hear. All the histrionics they go through, after the obligatory "did you hear that" and quick head turn, is to further the investigation along.
