I'm a former devout fan of TAPS turned hard-core skeptic and new to this site.
I just have one simple question…why do "ghosts" only show up at night? Has this been discussed? Isn't this odd? Wouldn't it be easier to debunk stuff in the light of the day? Are spirits only nocturnal?
TAPS only investigates at night, all the other shows about the paranormal are staged at night…easier to set the mood and easier to muddy the water, I suppose.
Anyway, just a thought that frustrates me about the "truth" shows. I go by the Sunshine Principle…if it can't stand up to being seen under sunlight, it is suspicious.

Chopper, Willkommen.
Ghosts show up at all times, we see them mostly during the day when we are active.
All the investigating at night is to set the mood, you know, dark, mysterious etc.
Plus it may help some less than honest investigators(hint)to pull a fast one.
PRS sets 3:00 am as dead time. I've always wondered is that EDT, CDT or GMT?
Anyway, enjoy your time here.
We are quite open to differing viewpoints.

Chopper, welcome. You came here like most of us did, because GH got a little too out there. Blinddog pretty much hit the nail on the head.
There were a couple of threads over on the TAPS board asking and discussing the same question about hunting ghosts in the dark, when most of them are seen in daylight or in artificial lighting. There were paranormal groups responding and actually from what I read very few did investigations like GH. They tried if at all possible to investigate under the same conditions the witness saw it. Some of it due to day jobs, availability of the location, less outside noise, interference, etc. do their sleuthing at night, but not in total darkness. They will dim lights, for instance.
Paranormal State, a gimmick using 'Dead Time' IMO.
Personally, if I were hunting them, I would want light! Once shadow people and dark masses became popular. . .I really started noticing when I was in darkness how many things started looking like it could be something paranormal. I think they would be much easier to spot in the light of day.

It funny how TAPS has made a lot of people into skeptics.
"if it can't stand up to being seen under sunlight, it is suspicious."
For paranormal stuff I tend to agree. But remember we can't see stars in the daytime either yet they are visible at night.
In my opinion I think ghost hunters choose night time investigation for the same reason they choose lame ghost detecting toys – in order to mistake normal for the paranormal. It's easier to make mistakes, see shadows or whatever because our eyes don't work well in the dark.

I should have couched my comments with the fact that I can be a sarcastic smarta$$. The questions were asked with toungue firmly in cheek, but I do appreciate the responses. However, I was genuinely curious about whether the topic had come up.
Point is, I see that you guys are right there with me on this one. Even if it is not to hide the fraud, night has a way of messing with our eyes and our heads, so there is a better chance for confusion and ambiguity.
Learjet…that is an interesting point about the stars. Aussie, huh? I'll be down there next month visiting family.
Here is the irony…my lone experience that I believe to be paranormal happened…any guesses? Yep, at night. However, half the day is night, so that's a lot of time for stuff to happen, I suppose.

Welcome Chopper. No problem with tongue-in-cheek. I've been known to post a few in that fashion myself . As Hannah said, you came upon this site here like most of us did. And, as Learjet said, it is funny how TAPS has turned a lot of people into skeptics.

Hello and welcome, Chopper.
I believe the topic of why ghost-hunting is done at night is touched upon in several threads, but always fun to discuss. And actually, I think the very first podcast also talks about it. That can be found here:

As for TAPS turning "a lot of people into skeptics"…that is somewhat true. Yet, many of us were also skeptics long before Ghost Hunters first aired. I feel a bit uncomfortable crediting a couple of plumbers/service technicians with the fact that I have plunged into critical thinking and rational thought. You know, just sayin'…

While I hate to admin it, these couple of plumbers DID turn me into a skeptic.
Well, that isn't entirely the case. I was always "skeptical" and always wanted proof before believing anything. But I always enjoyed the Ghost/UFO/etc. shows and always hoped to see some new "evidence".. always hopeful.
GH ruined that fun for me. The hope is gone. Now I watch to see how they fake/misinterpret things. Even though I never bought into it, it opened my eyes to what it is, and ruined my enjoyment.
So, yes, those two plumbers pushed me over the line to Officially call myself a skeptic.
