I never thought of that Doc. I have the technology so I'll have to try it and report back.
Not sure about your choice of music though.

Okay at first I tried music (Enigma), then a sequence of tones at 30 Hertz, 100 Hertz, 500 Hertz, 1000 Hertz, 2000 Hertz. This was fed into my VLF antenna probe and placed as close as possible to the digital recorder.
The results – negative. Not a squeak. Maybe I should have tried Rolf Harris?
The electret (I assume) mic evidently is not responsive to the AC electromagnetic fields (RF) from the wire probe, nor is the internal electronic circuitry. Probably a good thing otherwise it would record radio transmissions, something these little voice recorders have been blamed for while recording EVPs.
Of course being AC EMF, the EMF meter blinks away happily to the tune.

Interesting … so we rule out few methods that Casper is NOT using to put his voice on the recorder
BTW, are you using a US cent on the KII ?

Remember the live Halloween episode? (Who could forget) The "you're not supposed to be here" EVP was blamed on radio transmissions into the voice recorder from boats. I now think that scenario unlikely.
Tried a few US cents. 1929 wheaty, 1960, 1967, 1975, 1976. I don't have anything more recent, I understand the metal has changed. However I tried other coins with as many different metals as I could find from various countries, including any bits of metal like washers, ferrous, non ferrous, magnetised. Nothing I tried has any effect.

Learjet,
Yes, the metals have changed and I want those wheaty's! I actually collect them. A habit my father started me on years ago. I think they may be worth a bit more but not much. The cost to ship them would be more than the value darn it!

Anything post 1982 will be zinc with a copper wash.
You've tried two different ones with your set up it appears
1929 and 1960 were .95 copper, .05 tin AND zinc
1967, 1975, and 1976 were all .95 copper, .05 zinc (no tin)
Some others:
1943 was, of course, steel coated with zinc
1983 to present have a core of .992 Zinc, .008 copper with a outer plating of just copper
1982 is a toss up as it was mix and match with old and new styles.
If you get a hold of the early Indian or Flying iggle cents (pre 1865) you'll have some nickel in there .880 copper, .120 nickel

Yeah, too bad that '29 wasn't a '22 plain!

In Australia's brief history of 1 cent coins from 1966 to 1990 we used to see the odd US cent in the change. I guess it's where I got these from. Not any more though since alll our copper colour coins have long gone.

And I've been meaning to talk to somebody down there about that! I particularly liked the Pennys (pre-decimalization) but good luck wedging one of those babies under a switch! :)
