What everyone on this topic fails to realize is that SciFi is a company. A company is in the business of making money. It puts out shows they call products. If the Product makes money they keep it. The only numbers that count are the ratings. Ghost Hunters is the second most popular show on the network. They are not going to kill the golden goose because people that watch the show thinks its fake. The point is that they watch the show. This boost the ratings, the network can charge more for advertising, they make lots of money. SciFi is happy. They don't care about the +18 boards, the -18 boards, this board, or anything else.
If the Ratings go down, Ghost Hunters will be dropped faster then a New York Heartbeat. It's TV 101 people.

UPDATE: TAPS 18+ number are now hovering just above 10,000. The lowest I've ever seen.
Even given the fact that any skeptic is quickly given the boot (in fact, anyone who even remotely questions any evidence as not being on the up and up, even if inadventently so, is soon removed), this drop is as staggering as the initial one. Looks like there was a rebound of sorts as the Live show drifted into history, but perhaps Season Five just isn't doing it for them anymore.
I think that part of the reason is that people are just not taking to the lineup. It did have more of a closeness when the original members of TAPS were all relatively local and knew each other way before the show. Like them or not, Donna, Andy, Brian and several others blended in much better, IMO, then the outsiders they have been bringing in.

Count me among the former TAPS fans who was booted from the message board for attempting to have a rational conversation about skeptical evidence. My daughter and I were fans of the show for years. As a skeptic who would love to be able to believe, I used the “evidence” put forth on the show as a teaching tool, seizing the opportunity to make my child a critical thinker.
But even so, I must admit that I myself was naïve for a long time in thinking that the more far fetched, obviously un-paranormal evidence being presented was due to the gullibility of a coupla plumbers. I wanted to believe that Jason and Grant were good, honest guys with a passion for ghost hunting who were simply being sucked into the emotion, or the creepiness of a place, or else falling prey to intentional hoaxers.
And that may have been the case in the beginning – back when they visited troubled home owners, not tourist proprietors, and they actually debunked stuff. As time went on, though, it became more and more obvious that the show was a cash cow, and the boys were selling out. The 2008 Halloween show brought it allll down, imo. I see that you have all discussed it here at great length, so I won’t add to it.
Now I continue watching every Wednesday just to see what kind of tom foolery they’re going to try putting over on us this week, lol! Anyway…..it is very refreshing to find this site.

Welcome Daytripper! Your background coming here sounds like you'll find this place an enjoyable respite!
I too was a regular over at that place, but ended up hurting my head not quite a year ago when I found myself banging it too hard against various walls trying to inject some reason. Wasn't _quite_ booted out of there, but I haven't been back there since the end of the last season (the original Fort Delaware investigation) It was just too much for me! :)

I used to try to sift through the debris to find some interesting discussion – but those days are long gone. Whoever is running the forum on a day-to-day basis should be ashamed of themselves, IMO, not primarilly because they turn away any skeptical discussion, but because they allow parts of the forum to be a cess pool of racism, misinformation, homophobia, etc., etc. I guess they think a racist joke is OK, but questioning a bunch of bumbling "ghost hunters" is out of bounds. I think anyone banned from the TAPS forums should wear that distinction like a badge of honor.

Thanks for the warm welcomes! It's nice to find fellow viewers who are truly interested in rational conversation.

Well i haven't been banned yet, so I guess I don't get a badge. I do go to the TAPS 18+ forum, mainly to check out the thread about cops and ghosts under Ghost Stories. It really is interesting and some pretty good stories there of thing cops and others have experienced. Hasmatkid who is a professor in Liverpool at the University there has posted some interesting experiences that have happend where he works.
Out side of checking that out, and maybe a few other threads, i really don't post much, and rarely go to the regular TAPS forum. I hate when they do the episode watches on both boards, as it's like 20 pages of drivel, until you get to where they are actually talking about what is happening.
I miss Andy,Brian, Donna and the old crew when they started, though I do like Joe Chin. He seems to take investigating seriously, unlike sometimes Dave and Steve who at times seem to act like two of the Three Stooges. I think that you should be able to critize the show and the activity or evidence they catch.
But I guess some of their fans can't seperate fact from fiction so to speak at times.
