I think this one is E11. Even though the last one was billed as a Special, it seems to have been just thrown right in the mix like it was a regular episode. Well, in all reality, it was just a regular episode. Nothing Special.
We left our GH friends on Hawaii a few months ago to partake of the island's various drinkeries. The leaders, though, received an "urgent" call from Steve (thus the title of this episode) who had stayed back to keep an eye on things and to be there to answer the phones just in case something like this happened. Wow, what were the odds that it would! Probably about 99.8% given the way these things are scripted.
We ended the last season with the Soldier's Story (an attempt to go after both patriotism AND a residence investigation) and we start this half-season with another residence. I will give them credit for that, I really wish there were more of these types of investigations but now it just seems that they are put in for token placation of those in the audience who are tired of watching Stimulus Projects. Hopefully we see them get back to their roots this season and do more of these types…but I'm continuing to breathe normally in the meantime.
Upon hanging up the phone, Jason and Grant floor it from in front of the hanger on Ford Island and barely get their tires wet in their effort to get back to the mainland to take part in this urgent investigation. Unfortunately, the rest of the team stays back in Hawaii to review evidence and try the local fermented poi. So, to be assured of having two-man teams (you know, you must never, ever, ever investigate alone…never, ever) they round up KJ to round out Steve's team. And there was no great rejoicing.
Pared down to a skeleton crew (ha!) the four investigators (plus 27 cameramen, sound crew, directors, gaffers, and a Best Boy) go to Rhode Island (or at least rendezvous there) and rush to the aid of a family (with a little girl, of course, making this doubly urgent) who is reporting odd things in their house such as shadows and the apparition of a man in the kitchen muttering something about the number of teaspoons in a tablespoon. In fact, I could swear that one EVP sounds like "a pint is a pound…"
Watch for "strong" EMF, approaching the 1.9mg area (gasp! Hope they don't use hair dryers) Watch as they assume (because of all the theories out there) that there must be an entity present to be making the meter do this. Watch as I long for the days of Brian and Andy.
Do we get to see the results of the Pearl Harbor investigation? Probably, I can't imagine them doing a full 40 minutes on a residence. If you missed (or forgot what happened in it) the Pearl Harbor Phantoms episode, fear not, it is being rerun right before Urgent. In fact, you can catch many of these today as there is a marathon going on. Or you may choose to spend some time in the garden or go to work.

I can sorta understand why they don't do residences much anymore; truth is, GH is now famous, especially among paranormal enthusists, and there are a lot of 'em, and especially in the States. I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of those kinds of "help us" calls are simple misunderstandings to outright fakes perperated by the homeowner, just to get to meet J & G, or S & T, get them into their home, get themselves on television, or all the above.
That would take a lot of screening, which translates to time, which translates to money. The last thing GH needs is more wild goose chases.
Then again, if it turns out the home isn't even remotely haunted, Grant could always "fix" that.

So, according to the Scooby crew the house is one giant EMF fear cage. Or at least a couple of rooms. Yet they reckon they captured ghost voices on the DAR. Also strangely enough supposedly coming from rooms with no high EMF. Well… which is it? Ghosts or hallucinations?! This is another case where they want their EMF both ways! They want their EMF fear cage and they want their EMF so ghosts can use that energy to manifest. Aren't these two conclusions mutually exclusive? But no, they want ghosts AND hallucinations! They want it all!

I haven't watch an ep of GH for probably over a year, but I decided to watch this one.
Now I remember why I don't watch the show anymore.
I wish someone in that organization would get off their butt and actually read (gasp!) something about M. Persinger's EMF experiments. As we know, there is no actual evidence of this so-called "EMF hypersensitivity" from those experiments, and certainly none at all that the little girl is suffering from it, (they didn't so much as test her!) yet they leave the house doing knuckles and patting themselves on the back for a "great job" as though it's case solved, let's move on to the next show. WTH?
They apparently couldn't even decide if there was in fact an entity there or if it was the EMF, or both?…..
OR- I think this is maybe what they were trying to hint at: that the high EMF there not only created a fear cage but also provided energy for actual ghosts to manifest, bringing about a double whammy of sorts. So kill the EMF, the fear cage vanishes AND the real spookies won't be able to "break through". Kill two birds with one stone! Well, that's certainly a new one on me; again, where's the research and evidence that demonstrates that ghosts can utilize EMF as fuel? It's nothing more than a thought experiment, a musing, if you will.
It bugs me on these shows that all these far out hypotheses are dishonestly cited as a probable scientific fact, rather than the mere thought experiements they really are. They very much overstate these things in the extreme, but it lends an air of crediblity to their authority to do so, so I'm sure things will not change.
I'd also be willing to bet they don't return any phone calls from this family if/when things there don't change. They seemed a little too smug about the outcome already. A child psychologist would probably have been a better choice for the mother to call.

Apparently the only way Jay and Grant know how to communicate with kids is through high fives. Right on!

and I would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you meddling kids!

The whole episode was really kind of sad. A great rush to get back to the mainland and go into overdrive to help this family. Yet, they could have stayed to do the Reveal in Hawaii in person just as easily since they did it by teleconference before the "Urgent" investigation. So, if they are going to wait a week or so, what's an extra day or two to fly back, get settled, and then go do the investigation.
Reading the twitters of the cast in Hawaii gives a bit different of a timeline than we are presented with in the episodes, but then so what else is new?

It was as fake as their phone calls from Kris during plumbing jobs. Where does their fakery stop?

Why do I keep getting the image in my mind of J & G pulling up to this familys' house, with lights and sirens blazing, in the Ecto 1.
As Ronald Reagan said, ''The most feared words to hear are, We're here to help''.

I barely skimmed this episode, but did notice Grant talking about "floaters" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Floater) as a possible cause for people seeing things that aren't there. That's the first I ever heard someone on GH mention that. Of course it's on a case where they want to disprove things. :-) I have those damn floaters and it definitely can look like something is there in your peripheral vision. So from now on when a client talks about seeing things, I fully expect GH will ask if they have floaters.
I also wonder if any of the GH staff have floaters. That could explain some of the "did you see that?" stuff that goes on damn near every episode. They seem to be most noticeable in bright daylight backgrounds, but maybe when flashlights are in use they can come into play.
