The Doctor said: On a side note, Techmangler Steve once again sets up 4 stationary cameras, but only calls out 3 of them when he is showing the setup.
It has gotten to the point where I can't recall the last time when, we had 2 cases in a row where Techmangler Steve reviewed all of the cam views evident on the monitor…actually I can't even recall the last case [EP] when he'd done so, never mind 2 in a row. When it first started happening, I was inclined to think an Editor had cut the last cam reviewed out of the footage in post-production – trying to shave off 10-20 seconds here/there type thing. But it not only continued to occur, we started seeing cases where it wasn't the 4th of 4 or 5th of 5 cams placed but the 2nd or 3rd cam [for e.g.] that was skipped over…..it no longer seemed to be a case of post-production snipping but rather Steve intentionally skipping over a certain cam.
Also supporting the latter was the fact his commentary usually flowed, it didn't appear as if something was missing and, as seen in this case, at times he'd refer to a cam as being [for e.g.] cam 2 or cam 3 and yet at the bottom of the frame it clearly said cam 3 or cam 4, thus didn't marry up. Frankly, for a while I've had no doubt it was intentional, and have no doubt that Steve is/has been following Jay's [and/or G's] orders and not just ignoring certain cams because he feels like it. Question is why?
The flip-flop stunt at Seven Sisters – that cam was skipped over – 'suggests' it is because J/G didn't/do not want us to see certain things, and it's easier to just pretend they didn't have a cam there than to have to explain why – using this case as an example – they didn't share footage of the levitating flip-flop; or why there was a flesh/born person attached it; or why the cam didn't capture this incredible event when the FF was clearly an object the cam could see. But then there's been cases where it didn't appear that anything notable had occurred in the area where the skipped over cam was; of course it could've been that they opted to not include it or say anything about it [IOW the stunt didn't go as planned]. I also wonder if they put an extra cam up at certain locales for the sole purpose of using it as an extra [stationary] production cam?
Whatever the reason, I definitely think they should have addressed it by now, the fact they haven't raises a big red flag IMO.
As for the case/EP itself…predictable as usual, more of the same 'did you see/hear that' which we of course with most we did not; the usual 'ridiculous' number of redundant sound bite interviews done [thus redundant filler]; yet again most of the 'lights out' scenes appeared staged to me; and well I can't even recall what they presented to the client as [so-called] evidence so it wasn't very remarkable; and once again we had claims of something being seen more than once – Amy and the shadow for e.g. – and yet the person didn't bother to put a cam on the area – IF they even had one – to try and actually capture evidence of this grand anomaly s/he was allegedly seeing.
One thing that warrants mentioning: another example to add to the 'Idiocy of TAPS' list, courtesy of Grant. Despite being told the area was off-limits, and if I recall right it was taped off or had a sign indicating it was a 'do not enter' zone – and even after having just stated that fact himself, noting these were unsafe areas - Grant ignores same and foolishly proceeds to walk into an off-limits room….he only went a few steps before Jay gave the cease and desist order, but not because Grant was deliberately doing what he/they were asked not to do, because he could see the floor was soft under G's feet and thus was too big a risk to take.
Yes had the floor given out sending Grant with chunks of wood/debris etc down to the next floor, he very likely would've been seriously injured or worse [killed]…..and if others from the team/crew were directly below that room, it could have very quickly turned into a much bigger tragedy. That was pure idiocy!!! Great example you set there Grant [and Jay] for all the young viewers – NOT.
