I am starting to notice a lot of things at the end of these episodes lately. Now I am not a seasoned GH watcher so this may be old news but it is new to me or maybe I haven't been as observant in previous episodes:

1. Removing parts of sound from a sound clip during a reveal:

I don't get why they edit out a lot of the sounds when they are revealing a clip. I often see this lilttle bump of a sound wave length where a ghosts says "ddjaslkdjasl" aka "Hey, I'm here", and right before or after there is a giant spike of sound and they just edit it out…if they are going to edit it out why leave the visual of the spike on the sound clip

2. During an investigation (usually Steve and Tango for some reason) they will hear, or see something amazing and then its never brought up again:

I have noticed several times that Steve and Tango get really excited about something and how its a great piece of evidence during the investigation and its never even used in the review or reveal. I have seen it a couple times in the last couple episodes I watched. Unfortunatly, I do not have DVR so I can never go back and see what they were talking about but I know a couple times its just ignored completely. Why bother showing it during the hours of investigation if they aren't going to use it

3. The owners of the houses or managers at whatever place they are at, are really bad actors:

I don't understand why none of the "victims" ask them what the hell are they talking about during some of these EVPs that they show. I haven't heard anything decent from them at all in a long time. I think the funniest one was when they did a reveal infront of almost an entire town and it was nothing even worth showing yet all these people were shown knodding their heads in agreement. I am just tired of the "oh wow I hear that" or "Oh thats a young girl speaking" from these people they reveal to.

Sorry if this is all a repeat of previous discussions but its something I have been noticing an awful lot lately.

Then again…I wouldn't want them to be "good" actors.  That's a whole other can of worms…

And just something to ponder:

Say what you will about TAPS and GH, but they are a successful cable television show.  Why?  They had a good hook (normal guys dealing with the paranormal) and the GH crew wisely chooses locations.  And when I say "wisely"…I mean it.  You don't just call Jason and Grant and they show up at your house.  One must talk to the "TAPS family"…maybe a local group checks out your place and then the producers and/or whoever runs down a list of questions with you.  Do you think they actually care about the paranormal aspect?  They may appear to.  But…will the episode look good?  Is the place large enough?  Are the people involved both believable and…most importantly…do they BELIEVE in the paranormal?

How many times have we seen "Oh…I was a skeptic, but now…wow!"  Yeah…they were skeptics and I was the King of England until I got bored and abdicated the crown.

Of course they will be amazed with inaudible EVP's.  Of course they will be astounded by video of a shadow.  Of course the jaws will drop when they hear the footsteps.  They already believe it.  It's a done deal.  There is truly no shock value in this.  Nosfer isn't getting on this show.  I'm not getting on this show.  But the guy down the street who jumps at any little noise, is afraid to go into his basement because "it's dark and spooky" and totally believes that other people can communicate with the dead by sitting on the floor and talking to a flashlight…yes sir…we have a winner.  THAT guy is on next week.  And the week after…and so on…

But if you're looking for some great acting…look no further than J&G after the reveal.  It's my favorite part of the show.  After they show the client their evidence of the great beyond…they go on to tell them that there is no reason to be afraid and that they won't be hurt by the ghosts/spirits/whatever.  They say these things with such conviction.  Nothing better than a con man falling for his own con.  I mean think about it for a second.  If ghosts do exist…then they are of the supernatural, an untested and unknown entity.  How or why or if they are capable of harming a living being would be unknown…therefore J&G are essentially lying when they say "you haven't been harmed yet, so you will not be harmed in the future."  It's faulty reasoning (I've walked into the Polar Bear exhibit three times now and I haven't been attacked.  So…I will not be attacked by the Polar Bears the next time that I do it.  Yeah?  Good luck with that…).  And if ghosts do exist…then they are still lying by saying anything with such certainity about ghosts.  Either way…a bunch of unproven "stuff" being thrown at the proverbial wall…a shame when some people believe that they see it sticking…

Along the same lines, but entirely different.

How can they assure the putative entities that their various "instruments" "will not hurt them in any way"?  If, as they suggest, a spectre can affect various physical energies, why might it not be affected by them as well…perhaps excruciatingly?

And what are the ethical implications of attempting to draw out deceased human children by promising them "candy", "toys" or, in the case of the tragic Mackinac Island "Harvey", by trying to convince the supposed entity that one of the investigators is his lost love come back to him?

They either do not believe at all that they are contacting any type of intelligence (ya think?), or they are utterly without conscience.

That is a really good point. What if doing things along those lines hurts us in the after life. I know it sounds ridiculous but if you can't prove it either way then there is no arguing about its possibility. I don't know how after being a place for a single night they can say either way if they are safe or not. Its not only the physical well being but the pyscological well being of a family especially the kids regardless if a place is haunted or not. They should be referring them to actual experts of pyscology instead of "If you have any problems call us."

The thing that really annoys me the most is all these shows declare themselves as experts. Just because you do something a bunch of times doesn't make you an expert. I could write for a year about the 'experts' on FoF but GH has even created ghost hunting expert animals, its ridiculous.

How does one get the Expert tag slapped onto them?

I am a certified Expert BS'er…it says so on the Title Screen of my show  :)

I agree. People should ask questions and not just accept things as fact because they come from supposed 'experts.' Think about it, a doctor is a medical expert right? How many people go get second opinions, or ask the doctor questions, or go search for other sources? Especially with something as open-ended and elusive as the paranormal, there should be even more questions. And even less reason to trust an 'expert.'

Unlike medicine, or history, or science, or math, or anything concrete, there are no textbooks written about the paranormal in the same sense. The paranormal world is divided into believers and non-believers. Whether you like it or not, you have to believe in math, because it's right there on the paper in front of you and in every day life. Makes it a little harder to question.

Therefore, with the paranormal, the only way to advance is to constantly question and form new theories. For example, the point mentioned above. What if the equipment does hurt entities? Never even thought of that before.

and I would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you meddling kids!

Picture the following situation at a reveal.  Client is shown EVP. Client then listens to EVP.  Client is told it says "No, Don't Go"  Client arches eyebrows, looks squarely at Jason and says "You gotta be kidding?  You hear that there?  Why is there no change in the amplitude of the audio wave?"

"Cut Cut Cut Cut, Listen, you play nice, you nod you head and go ohhhhh or else"

It isn't going to make it to air if he calls them on it, and 9 times out of 10 a commercial place (which is 27 times out of 30) is going to WANT to have some evidence found so of course he'll play nice even without prompting.

However, if you look closely during the reveals, you occasionally see edits done, words dubbed in, etc.  That MAY be from the client doing just that.  They, too, end up signing papers.

Actually, the absolutely abysmal quality of their evidence is the only thing that makes GH in any way credible to me.

Although I was appropriately shocked when the child's voice said "They don't want us here" in the first episode and pretty naively impressed by the Duchess asking "Where are you?" in a later one; the fact that almost all subsequent EVPs have sounded about as much like a human voice as a toilet flushing in the next apartment, makes me wonder if, at least at some level, they are on the up and up…

Don't hate me because I'm credulous….Smile
