I did not write this.  Here's the scoop from "TV by the Numbers" for this summer":

"SUMMER REALITY SERIES

“Ghost Hunters International” – Returns Wednesday, July 8 at 9PM — A spin-off of SCI FI’s popular “Ghost Hunters” series, “Ghost Hunters International” features a squad of real-life “ghost-busters” – ordinary people who investigate and attempt to debunk claims of otherworldly activity. This summer the team travels to Austria, Ireland, Italy, Chile, Argentina and the Czech Republic in pursuit of the truth behind bizarre supernatural claims. The first six episodes of season two will air this summer with additional episodes continuing in 2010.

“Ghost Hunters International” earned the best-ever first season for a reality series of the network, averaging a 1.7 HH rating and 2.3 million total viewers.

“Ghost Hunters” – Returns Wednesday, August 19, at 9PM (ET/PT) – Plumbers by day, Ghost Hunters by night, Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson head up TAPS (The Atlantic Paranormal Society), a close-knit organization of volunteer paranormal researchers – ordinary people who investigate and attempt to debunk claims of otherworldly activity. In their investigations all over the U.S. and Europe, these self-proclaimed skeptics have managed to expose some of the most frighteningly compelling evidence of paranormal phenomenon ever seen on television! Throughout its run, “Ghost Hunters” has featured speaking entities, mysteriously moving furniture, and ghostly visages and a healthy dose of squabbling within the investigating team. Being scared has never been so much fun!

Enjoying record-high ratings throughout its run since 2004, “Ghost Hunters” remains one of cable’s hottest shows, with an average of more than 3 million viewers tuning in so far during season 5 (premiered March 11, 2009). “Ghost Hunters,” is produced in association with Craig Piligian’s Pilgrim Films and Television (Dirty Jibs, The Ultimate Fighter, In Harm’s Way). Piligian and Thomas Thayer, along with Rob Katz and Alan David, serve as executive producers."

Wonder who is going to be in the lineup this time?  With GHI, it's like playing revolving cast members.

I do like to see the locations that they go to, which is the main reason I watch.  I'm anxious especially to see the Czech Republic.  Especially if they go to Prague, which looks to be an absolutely beautiful city.

If 50 million people believe a foolish thing, it is still a foolish thing.

My boss and her husband went few years ago to Prague.  I can't remember exactly what she said but I do remember she raved about it.  Unfortunately their trip was cut short because of the floods.  Still, they wanted to go back again.  So I'm anxious about that one as well to see where they go.  Also, I've always wanted to go to Austria.  I like being able to get the "inside" tour of some of these places where they don't allow the general public to take pictures due to flash photography and its effects on paintings and tapestries.  I must admit though, I usually follow the rules and regulations but I have snuck a picture now and again without a flash and got yelled at. I do enjoy the places GHI goes to. Ditto DT…and I used to watch at least the first part of MH for that as well. For GH, even though the places are interesting usually all we get is a few-line blurb from Kris in the van just before she tells us that the reports range everywhere from sounds to full body apparitions. Come to think of it, has there been ANY place that hasn't had reports of FBAs in the "tease"!

It seems like forever that we last saw DT.  I actually like Josh Gates and his sense of humor in the midst of it all.  I'd want him beside me rather than anyone from GH or GHI if I was in a situation.  This fall can't come soon enough for me.  There are places DT goes that I would never even begin to think of travelling to let alone exploring except when Josh veers off and teams with GH.  It's going to be a long, parched summer.

Hold the skeptical bus! That's the first time I've heard of flash photos being banned for that reason. Then I read this… http://www.straightdope.com/columns/read/1783/why-isnt-flash-photography-permitted-in-museums

How does deterioration of artwork / artifacts apply to flash photography? Consider this. We know that damage is proportional to a packet of three affects, wavelength, intensity and duration. Mute any one of those three and damage is negligible. Compared to daylight, a flash has to be in close proximity to produce equal brightness. They mainly just look bright because they are used in dark situations.

Then there's the duration of a flash which typically lasts for 1/1000 – a whole one thousandth of one second or less. A thousand people taking a picture would add up to a whole second. In the long term, fainter ambient light would be doing more damage than all the flashes put together.

I think the real real reason they don't allow flash is that they are annoying and distracting. They shouldn't have yelled at you for taking a picture without flash, although I suppose most people don't know how to turn the flash off.

@ Learjet. . . To me, I've always had a problem with photo restrictions in certain museums.  The lighting is usually so bright anyway that you really don't need a flash however a majority of the huge numbers of visitors and tour groups plowing into these sites do not know how to use a camera properly.  From what I've experienced, most have just bought a camera for the trip or borrowed one and haven't a clue. When there are a lot of people around trying to take pictures and flashes going off simultaneously, I just walk away.  However, I've always believed the main real reason photography is banned is because they all have museum gift shops selling postcards and books. etc. and, like you the flashes are annoying and distracting to those trying to enjoy the museum.

Taking flash photos in historic homes or castles is a different matter.  The absolutely massive numbers of tours that go through these places even in one day is incredible and these tours go on in some cases 10 hours a day, 7 days a week all year long with only Christmas and New Year's Day off.  The staging and lighting in place is meant to preserve the very old, and in some cases historical, restored fragile fabrics, artifacts and aspects of the location and show them off in their best fashion while preserving them.  I think the difference is these items are not your ordinary every day objects/fabrics which, if you used a flash on them wouldn't mean a hill of beans.  The only equivalent I can compare it with would be like having the papparzzi flashing photos 8 to 10 hours a day on one object.  So I do understand (don't like it, but I get it).  They also usually add the historical importance of it being a home and that they want to remain respectful to the home, it's owner and it's history.  So, they basically tell you that you are welcome to look but not touch and be respectful to the home/castle's treasures.  Even at the Vatican, you can take pictures in certain areas but are not supposed to take pictures of the Pieta which, at the time we were there, was curtained off by huge black curtains.  They let you go behind the curtain to view it but no pictures were allowed.   I got a great shot though (no flash) along with a polite but firm reprimand.  That was the start of my figuring out how to get those restricted shots – it was a challenge.  However, a majority of these castles and museums have their gift shops too!

At last a glimmer of truth: "self-proclaimed skeptics!"

They self-proclaim a lot of things. . .

@ Hannah:  I missed this before.  It also says:

"In their investigations all over the U.S. and Europe, these self-proclaimed skeptics have managed to expose some of the most frighteningly compelling evidence of paranormal phenomenon ever seen on television!"

GH all over Europe and some of the most frightening compelling evidence of paranormal phenomenon?  Have I missed something?  What show was I watching?  A small point, but this is the first time I've ever heard the UK being considered all over Europe.  I know they had to have meant all over the US but talk about spin.  I sure hope this pr person got paid well but I also wonder if this person ever watched the show.

Not only that, the term "expose" does not exactly apply in this context. If they were exposing the true meaning behind some of the "frighteningly compelling evidence" then it would apply, but I think perhaps the term the PR guy was looking for was "misinterpret" :)

I doubt the person writing this has seen anything past very carefully chosen clips, if even that.

Maybe that is what is sooo wrong with J & G they believe their own press!  We are amazing, we are plumbers, not service technicians, we can detect ghosts with electronic doo-dads, feel cold spots, why we are professors of the paranormal (when do we pick up our honorary degrees?) buy an inn that becomes magically haunted overnight, we can. . .
