This was posted on the TAPS website – you won't get paid and you won't be "on camera" but given the way they go through cast members, it's a possibility.  I love the fact they are looking for an "experienced historian".  Too bad they don't use one on the East Coast "on camera" or not.

"TAPS West Coast Home Team….
04-16-09

The West Coast Home team is looking to add a historian to the team. This person must know the ins and outs of researching the history of any given property the team is to investigate. If you're an experienced historian, live in the Southern California area and think you are the right person for the job send an e mail to Britt@the-atlantic-paranormal-society.com. Please attach a resume.

This is NOT for the show team, you will NOT be on camera. This is for the West Coast home team. This is NOT a paid position, this is an all volunteer team."

They are also advertising Para 101 classes being taught by Britt and another instructor at The Spalding Inn at the end of May.  The write-up says it will be held in Southern CA but the list it as being in Jason and Grant's place.  Along with a list of telling you what they will "teach", there is also a list of "instructors" with their bios.

Interesting final lines regarding the classes:

There is no certification for this class!
There is no such thing! It is for information purposes only

Wow, you mean I get the chance to do a lot of work FOR FREE?!?!?   Sign me up!!!

Between the Halloween collar tug and this "offer," you have to admit TAPS has cajones if nothing else.

What amazes me is why any serious investigative team would want to have 'TAPS affiliate' on their resume to begin with.
It may look good to the public, but to others in the paranormal field you appear as idiots.

You do the leg work, you do the prelim investigating and J&G swoop in for all the cash and glory.

Think I would rather be an independent spook chaser.

Of course, by the same token, how many groups are there out there who are salaried?

Does 'Hot Girls in Scary Places' count?

I should rephrase that lol…how many _non-televised_/normal groups are there that are salaried. I think the only TAPS folks paid are the few that show up on TV.

Geez, too bad I don't live in So. California.  I have a degree in history–wonder if that would help my chances?

By the description, it sounds more like they need a Title searcher from one of those real estate Title companies when you go to buy a house.  Maybe I'm just reading it wrongly.

Historians are nothing new with this field since Most Haunted has been using one for a long time.  First Richard Felix and now Leslie.  Richard never had a degree in history but has always been interested in it.  I believe Leslie does, however.

But this job is a total joke.  WHY would anyone want to do all that work just to have Jason and Grant decide that a place is good enough to be on the show?  Bet the historian's name wouldn't even appear in the credits.

Cajones—that does says it all.  Narcissistic is another word that comes to mind.  Their heads have really gotten tons bigger since their plumbing days.

Hmmm…would having a degree in history help your chances in becoming an historian for TAPS?  Let's take a look:

They have investigators using scientific equipment that, as far as we know, have not completed any certified courses or classes in how to operate them.  They use scientific terms, concepts, and theories without, as far as we know, a formal scientific education or an extensive background in any field of science.  They have a tech manager who, as far as we know, has never held a position in any technical field pertaining to the equipment being used.

So…why in the world would a degree in history qualify you for the position of historian?  Now, perhaps if you didn't have a degree in history and say you were a carpenter or a blacksmith or you worked in a petting zoo…then yes, you'd have a great shot at it.  As long as you were willing to learn from "experts"…

Well Revenant, I guess you're right.  My BA in History probably does disqualify me according to TAPS requirements.   Of course, when you have plumbers who qualify to be lead investigators, using all the scientific equipment they do without any formal training in their use (or abuse), I should have realized that my resume would end up in the TAPS garbage receptacle.

And I was ready to relocate cross-country too!  Darn it, I never have any luck.

Yeah, but they can hook up a water heater and answer a cell phone at the same time like you've never seen before.
As far as Steve's qualifications, he got his degree at Best Buy University.
