Our friends are back for more excitement, just be sure to pay no attention to the man behind the Iron Curtain. Er, Iron Door…er, crack in the Iron Door. Yes, more shadow play and Chin re-enacts the famous Barry looking through a crack in a door scene from way back when this show featured the likes of Shannon, Donna, Brian, Andy, and Ted.  You remember those days, don't you?…back when J&G tried to disassociate themselves from this show.

Prepare for a spooky castle where the Nazis conducted experiments. Sounds like it has to be haunted, right? Rest assured, it will be! Normally I like spooky castles, but I suspect the only castlesque views we will have are during the "Well, here we are guys, tells us what goes on here, Susan" scene.

The only spookiness will be the uncanny feeling that we've seen these exact same scenes and heard this exact same dialogue in several other episodes.

Part two of this episode is a little less clear. Suffice it to say, the team is off to hunt a witch in Poland. (in my best British accent…May we burn her?)

This set of episodes marks the second of three that Britt will be in. That, in itself, should make this a collector's item when the DVD is released.

Drinking words/phrases for tonight are alliterations involving the letter "f"

Oh, and words involving the vowel "e"…hey, I'm trying to make this as easy as possible for you to get through!

Yeah right.  That's about as likely as an Olympic Gold Medalist competing on the Bigger Loser.  Oh wait…

(In my best British accent portraying a crowd of peasants): "BURN!  BUUURN HER!!

Nosfer: What makes you think that she's a witch?

Revenant : Well, she turned me into a newt!

(pause)

Nosfer: A newt?

(long pause)

Revenant: I got better.

Learjet: BURN HER ANYWAY!  BURN!  BURN HER!

Hmmm…what were we talking about again?

A nice "reference episode"  We got to see how the Englishman (Paul?) acts when he is truly seeing something he can't explain at the moment.  It's interesting to see the differences in their reactions between a typical "did you hear that" and an event that truly catches them off guard.  Much like Zak and the cat lol

Additionally they showed us that sometimes temperature anomalies are just temperature anomalies…we saw a temperature drop and then rise which they first thought coincided with the straw moving.  But then with the straw "debunked" we just have a temperature change without any "activity"

Neither place haunted, but having paranormal activity.  Once…Just ONCE…I'd like to see the manual they have that details when a place is considered "haunted" as opposed to just having "something paranormal going on"

There are two things that came to mind during that scene and the reveal.  The first…you're absolutely right, it serves as a "benchmark" as to how Paul reacts.  We've seen this with Kris Williams in the episode with GH in which she turns and sees the mannequin in the jail cell.  She jumps, she screams, and her hands go to her face.  Since then, she hears sounds, sees shadows, gets "touched" multiple times…do we get the same reaction?  Nope.  Always very interesting.

The other thing needs just a touch of set-up.  GHI wanted to show something lite and funny.  It showed that "everyone makes mistakes," they caught it, revealed it on the show, everyone gets pats on the back and a good laugh.  I think that was the intention behind showing the whole thing.  And…wait for the big but…

Buuuuuuuuuuuttttt…

What does it also show?  How about the intial reaction to declare an event paranormal?  This scene shows that paranormal should be option number one, option number two, and option number three.  Where is the objectivity?  And speaking of where things are….where was the deductive reasoning?  A straw is in a glass of newly poured liquid and ice.  Ghosts can supposedly move things.  The straw moves.  Obviously…a ghost moved the straw.  Really?  That's your Johnny-on-the-spot deductive reasoning ability?  There is no other option?  No other possibility?

Anyway…did I tell you guys that one of my super-powers is holding a cube of ice in my hand and in a couple of minutes, it will completely melt away?   Paul would be awe-struck!  Surprised  Laugh

Yep, I like episodes like this which give true insight into their reactions and way of dealing with things.  Certainly not going in with an intent to debunk, are they?

Was anyone else thinking the Titanic Episode and the block of ice when Barry started talking about ice at the end?

Another thing…one of the EVPs and I can't remember which episode it was in, but it was when they were showing the client.  The audio trace they were showing did not at all match the sounds we were (and weren't hearing).

This…is a rarity, my friends.  There are so few times in life where twenty-one words can say so much.  The wisdom, the insight…the…perspicacity…just awe-inspiring.  Life-changing really.  I can barely convey how appreciative that I am that Whitey08 took time out of his very busy schedule to school us.

I mean…taking time away from visiting Chicago Bear forums that bash the Packers and saying "Hey, it's only a game."  Or going to political forums and throwing out "You all know that they're all crooks, right?"  Let us not forget when he walks past you on the street on a cold day, he remarks "Man…pretty cold out right?"  Yes…a busy schedule indeed.  So much enlightenment, so little time…

Well Stephen…looks like it's time to shut down the website.  Not much of a reason to go on.  But hey…it's been a nice run.  If only Whitey08 had shown up sooner, no?

So…is this what you were hoping for Whitey08?  A bit of acknowledgement of your sagacity?  Well…there you go.  Enjoy it.  Print it and frame it.  Because something tells me that it ain't happenin' again for you anytime soon…

Joe sees a tarp blowing in the cracks and…. it's a ghost face and all. How do you get a face from plastic blowing in the wind? Well you have to have the gift of a Ghost Hunter! They are truly pareidolia masters of sight and sound. In fact they should rename the show Pareidolia Hunters International. Mmm, me thinks I shall refer to them as PHI from now on.

Then they have feelings of "static electricity" around their head. So instead of using their Trifield Natural EM meter (that for some reason they tape over the name) which can detect this, they use an AC EMF meter which can't.

Susan "I feel dizzy when I come in here like I can't keep my balance." Well Ms Susan, that's what happens when you go skulking around in the dark in an unknown building at night lol.

In the reveal Kris says "we are skeptics first". My PHI viewing equipment really needs protection at this point as I had the strong compulstion to throw the monitor out the window.

For the witch, the best test is to see if they float. If they float they are a witch and should be burned! If they sink and drown they are not a witch. It's a win win situation really. Except if you're the witch or not a witch.

Barry is bitten on the leg by a male ghost. Kinky.

Susan says Paul is a skeptic also. Wow so many skeptics on this show. That skeptic sure did freak out a lot over ice water. And to have cold spots near the ice water also. Amazing! Reminds me of Grant and the iceberg. Paul is such a good skeptical pareidolia hunter ignoramus. I hope he stays on the show with his amazing powers of deduction. Sherlock Holmes has been put to shame!

As for the difference between paranormal activity and haunted, well you see one is from intelligent ghosts and the other is from stupid ghosts…

I keep thinking she's going to start speaking in tongues, or burst into some mondo-bizarro "I see dead people" soliloquy.  My hope beyond hope is the full body shake augmented with the head roll, tongue out, eyes a flutter while trying to one-up Zak on the possession ladder.

I like Susan and all…but you can kind of see her just edging towards the "I'm a psychic-sensitive-medium-witch-whatever" who can "feel things, sense things, see things" that modern science can't explain…which all of us here just love… Confused

Since I couldn't bring myself to watch that Ghost Academy fiasco more than once, if memory serves me right there was a woman contestant who claimed mediumistic qualities.  I'm not sure it was Susan, though.  However, after watching her last night, she does seems to be drifting in that direction.

About feeling like she was not able to keep her balance-my first thought was that the room itself may have been a little off kilter, producing the weird sensations she described.  But since no one else remarked on it, guess that theory doesn't hold any water (or ice cubes with moving straws).

In the first run of the GHA series, there was a woman who out and out professed psychic skills…she was a skeptical medium by her own labeling.  She wouldn't go on the tours because she didn't want to be tainted by being told what was going on there.

She seemed to get some attention because of this "skill".  She and Susan were sitting in the same room at Fort Mifflin and Susan, possibly feeling like the spot light wasn't on her but rather on the other gal, went all empathetic on us (and you can't spell empathetic without pathetic)  She was almost thrown out because she had kept that particular "skill" to herself.

The gal who said she was psychic was booted off and Susan wised up and realized that such a skill could be a detriment to her at the Academy and amazingly she never "sensed" anything again.  I hope it's not making a resurgence.

I remember Donna, who became rather cranky after she joined GHI, also seemed to be developing/indulging in mediumistic talents as the GHI series progressed…at least she was constantly "feeling" things.  And I recall her sort of trying it out on GH earlier, but I think that show had already expressed a strong bias against it (which makes it all the harder to swallow now when they pronounce "haunted status" on a site with nothing but an equivocal EVP and a few "personal experiences").

I had a friend that could do that…….freaky.

ANYway…

At the risk of taking this thing way too seriously…

The straw: Ok, I'm sure everyone's first, and only, thought was that the ice melted or adjusted or something very normal happened. Still, if Paul and the new girl think something paranormal may have occurred, new girl's taking the straw and drinking out of the glass pretty much shot any chance of checking it out.

I….I'm thinking.

You know, I thought this site was for people's opinions but then my 20 year old son clued me in on the fact that bloggers get down and dirty with it and are mean spirited…Seriously, I had no idea.  Everyone has an opinion and it should  be treated with respect but alas, I guess that is too much to ask.  And yes, I am the one who thinks Giorgio Tsoukalos(from Ancient Aliens) is just an eccentric guy who is way more interesting than most people…so sue me.  You guys are way too serious.  Don't  bother replying, I won't be reading your site again.

Opinions are fine, but don't post them unless you accept that they will be analyzed.  If they stand up to scrutiny, so be it, if not, well, you should be willing to accept that as well.  What else would you expect from a site with Skeptical (no, it doesn't mean "denyer" or "unbeliever") in the title?  If you can post your opinion about Giorgio, then by gosh, others can, too.  That's only fair, right?

And don't post "opinions" just to troll (no, I'm not referring to you in this case, Trixie)
