I didn't see last night's episode of GHI but I did listen to Brian & Donna's podcast "B Ware Radio" and was totally shocked. First off because they both left the show and after listening to their reasons for it I kind of don't blame them and kind of admire them for doing it. I was really surprised though when they said they were leaving the paranormal field-at least in any public capacity as well! I'm not sure exactly what that means as they said they will continue with the podcast (which is about the paranormal) as well as fulfill their commitment to Univ Con. They also said that they would continue ghost hunting just not with a camera around.

Thanks for the heads-up, Shannon! It's great to get information straight from the horse's mouth.

I've poked fun at Brian Harnois in the past, but honestly this makes me respect him more. It takes guts to say, "OK, I've got a long-term paycheck and fame and fortune, but my child is more important, so I'm leaving."
I also liked their anti-drama message. I'm happy about the fact that this site is relatively drama-free.
Say what you like about Brian and Donna– I've never suspected them of faking evidence. I have a different perspective from them, but I have no problem with them, and wish them both well.

Quick off-topic note:
As someone that is relatively new to this board and others, i cannot tell you how much i enjoy the conversations here (whether I’m active in them or not) and the absence of any personal dramas.

I've been listening to their podcast from the beginning and the one thing I took away from the both of them if nothing else is that they seemed really sincere in what they were doing, really believed in it and loved it. However, I do think its odd that they say that they are leaving the paranormal and yet continue to do a show about it (am I possibly too skeptical!?)

Can someone please fill me in on the reason(s)? I can't seem to be able to get the podcast just at the moment. I'm dying to know! Thanks….

Donna is concerned about the long-term affect the travel and schedule has on her health and Brian decided he couldn't keep spending that much time away from his family (he has a young kid).

Here's something that interested me I'm listening to the Paranormal Women podcast and their guest is Shannon Sylvia. She said that she left the show because it "was hell". She also confirmed what Brian & Donna had said that they only found out that the show as going to be filmed overseas after the pilot had been picked up and that everyone was "devestated" by this.

But I wonder why this was not apparent? Did not the word "International" give them a clue? Why would SciFi create two GH shows if one were not going to be fundamentally different from the other?
I can understand both Donna and Brian's reasons. Also Shannon never did appear very happy on the show. Now I know why.
Perhaps because I don't have young children to leave behind for any extended period, or am working on other unrelated projects and such, I would jump at the chance to spend 3 months or so abroad (which is what Shannon said was the time period for filming), and on someone else's dime. Being a historian, this group has gone to places I've only dreamed of. Guess I'm a wanderer at heart, but to visit Eastern Europe, England, Italy…it would be the experience of a lifetime. Something to remember till the day I die. How many people ever get that chance to see these marvelous places, and mainly without all the tourists scrambling about (like the Tower of London; it was like a circus more then anything when I went there. And those guides like hawkers at a sideshow!).
I asked my husband would he mind if I went off like that for about 3 months and he said definitely not. The opportunity was too rare and exciting to pass up. Alas, I'm afraid I would be the last person to be picked to join the team and travel like they did.
I'm not criticizing anyone who left, just giving my own take on it. Sad but true, other then my hubby I wouldn't be leaving all that much behind. Maybe I'm just getting too old :(

I think Logisti pointed out in his post that originally they referred to the show simply as "The Project". Shannon said in her interview that the international part only came into play when they went overseas to film the pilot and learned that it would be international only after the show got picked up. She also said she felt "sad" watching the way she was portrayed in the show and that they always showered her looking grumpy for the simple reason that it was freezing cold!
I liked her after hearing the interview and she did say that she was so happy to have the opportunity but the shooting schedule was too much. It took 2 weeks to shoot one episode (at 2 locations) and that the only day off they had would be the day after they travelled so the never got to sight see.

What I was trying to explain earlier was that they went to Pilgrim about getting a show, Pilgrim said yes and sent them to Ireland. They filmed the investigation, sent the film home, Pilgrim looked at it and THEN decided to make the show all international, and AFTER they decided that, Pilgrim then changed the name of the show to "Ghost Hunters: International"
You always need to keep in mind, they film these things months in advance, but they can change little details like THE NAME and the opening credits very, very close to airtime. I don't know what their original concept was… maybe "Ghost Hunters: Ancient Lore" where they visit all really, really old places. I dunno, but regardless of their original idea, it got turned into "Ghost Hunters: International" by Pilgrim AFTER they'd already filmed episodes.

I thought that Shannon was interesting and she explained a lot of what went on behind the scenes on the radio blog, but the "hosts" of the show?? One of them started out by talking about some of the research she'd done on Shannon's earlier career (pre-GHI) then went on to say that it was nice that they had more women investigators on the show (meaning Shannon and Donna). It hit them like a ton of bricks when Shannon told them that she left the show and hasn't been on it for the last 3 episodes and that Donna and Brian had also left. Nice piece of research there… lol.

I know the interviewers were kind of…lets just say they ain't winning any journalism prizes any time soon. I quite liked the impromptu reading the one lady gave her. Still, I thought Shannon took it all in stride and I did like the behind the scenes info she offered.

Don't understand the addition. Want sum? Anyway, Even though I have watched the show, as I did tonight, Which I'm sure are reruns that I haven't seen. My opinion on a couple of the hunters. Donna seems to be a bit Too serious. The least little things upset her. I guess I should have said I'm bad with names, and I don't watch this enough to get too involved, but I think Shannon is with Donna often, if I'm wrong ,sorry. Shannon dear, you really need to just go home. You seem to have a bit of an attitude, and your very impatient, not a good quality in this field. And I'm sorry but a couple of the guys seem to be a bit on the scared side. They jump at every little thing. I'm a nervous person myself and couldn't do this. But I'm not scared of heights, spiders and a lot of other things they are, the girls seem to be less afraid. By reading these post, I have found out that some of these I mentioned are not with the show anymore. Could be a good thing. Don't get me wrong, they all have thier good qualities but not for this kind of work.
Personally I don't think I could do it either so don't feel bad. You know, I have gone all my life thinking all this ghost thing was a load, but in the last year or so I have had some actual experiences myself. After quite a few relatives have past, and not sure if its them or not but some weird things have happened in this house. I and everyone in this house has heard music in the wee hours of the night. The old phonograph type, staticy, stuff from say just after the turn of the century. None have heard it for some time now though after my wife told them they needed to leave. But now, lately, I had a coffee can thrown at me from off the top of the fridge, and even last night I had someone or something, stroking the hair on the back of my head. My son is really bad about doing that or sticking his finger in my ears. But I let it go for a few seconds and told him to stop and my wife said stop what. Could have punched me and I wouldn't have known it. No-one behind me. Plus 10 minutes ago my wife asked me if I had just been in the kitchen and I wasn't. She said someone was. But my son is asleep. I said was it maybe the cat, and she said no, it was someone. My wife has many things happen too her because shes somewhat claravoyant. Drives me nuts sometimes. I am the biggest skeptic there is about a lot of things, but I sometimes wonder now.
I suppose anything is possible. but not probable. Also, I've seen things on TAPS lately that just couldn't have been explained any other way. Freaky stuff.

Donna and Brian both struck me as essentially honest (if a bit gullible) people, and I wonder if their departure—-and apparent estrangement from TAPS—–might also have something to do with the direction of GH in the last couple of seasons.

Sorry they are leaving, well just one I'll miss having to endure seeing on tv. Shame they will be leaving aa good paying job but they should have known the demands on their time when they signed up. Of course having to deal with Jason and his many moods would be draining on anyone and trying to do their respective "jobs" in a tense setting would make any normal person wonder "what am I doing here"?
