Should we be blaming Steve, though, or the script?
I can't see the show having much in the way of a script – I think they would need to be much better at acting, and have really bad writers.
As it is, I have to give credit to the editing people and whoever they have doing the on location directing for getting even this much of a show out of it.

Steve's lines, especially, sure sound like he's going from something memorized.

And, for the record, after speaking with someone who actually knew Jason before GH, I was told no one ever considered him to be a bully. However, it's my belief that, as this show became more successfull, it has brought that aspect out of his personality.
On their radio program Jason describes how he almost punched out a sound guy who was wandering thrrough the prison during the dinner break. Was he planing on knocking out a ghost or did he expect muggers to break into the prison to get to him ?
When they went the second day (!) to check on the FLIR reflection of Grant on the locker, he ended all discussion by simply declaring it an appirition – his word is final.
In one of the first episodes, he and Grant are shown making fun of Brian while driving – what kind of man makes fun of a " family member " behind his back … yet knowing it will end up on national TV ?
Call it a bully or not, but Steve seems to be a Jason wannabe.
With all due respect Doc, but Jason is a lot of talk on many levels and we all know they have all made fun of each other at one time or another. And, as I said before, fame/success does change people. The bottom line here is that there is a definite outline for each of these shows and how one is told to handle situations to make a point and get the results they want to show. What good would it do if Steve just plodded along saying or doing virtually nothing. He already defers to J & G on GH. To be successful, this show needs Steve to be the catalyst and Steve is the obvious choice because it's definitely not in Tango's personality. That's the story outline.

GH seems to run with the same (or with only slight variations) formula every week…all they do is change the location and everything else is pretty much the same.

Did I miss those episodes ? I've seen J & G mess with Brian, Steve and Britt, I've seen Steve mess with Brian and Tango, but it just never seems to go uphill.
It's like hitting someone you know can't hit back – or in Steve's case during one episode, stealing candy from a client.

A script? For arguments sake, let's say there is a script. This is the best they can do? Who writes it? A room full of chimps?

Cromeet,
With all due respect, as a guest on this site you may have not read previous posts or seen the link to a picture of Kris highlighting the outline and making notes on GH. No television show goes into production without at least an outline and facts to build their story. There is a production team in place to do all the leg work and put the show together. Do you think Steve and Tango are doing this all by themselves?
