Just watched the first episode.  Not a whole lot of evidence gathered.  I just wanted to make a comment on Steve and Tango themselves…or Steve in particular:  did anyone else think Steve was being a little harsh?  I know you don't want to just let anyone on the show and I did agree with his point about 100% honesty being a strict requirement.  Honesty is needed to gain the trust of each of them and of the audience watching.  That's fairly self-explanatory.  I just thought he was a wee bit hard on the youngsters.  I really hope this doesn't end up being a show like Survivor, American Idol, Biggest Loser, etc.  where they actually try to sabotage each other.

This is the first time I've commented on here so it's just my two cents.  I'm a fan of Ghost Hunters and the Skeptical Viewer.  I consider myself skeptical but it's nice to come here and find even more skepticism.  I don't think you can have too much when it comes to this topic.

It really does seem like it! Tune in for Ghost Hunters Survivor, I mean Academy. I can see this will be good for marketing. People will tune in to see who stays and who goes, never mind the ghosts Lol.

I agree the Steve comes across as harsh. (Bad cop, good cop?) I kept flashing on memories of his first investigations and how he was treated.  I totally did not like his "quiz" and his response to that one girls quick answer.  I didn't think she was snarky; I figured she was trying her best to answer his question.

To cut Steve slack, I was thinking he was probably really nervous about leading this whole show and it was those nerves that stood out in his performance.

The quiz didn't really bother me and Susan's attempt at just BSing got pretty much the result it should have. She's going to have to learn that she has to get by on actual qualifications and not just turning this way or that.

My guess is that Steve is a bit intimidated by his "students", all of whom are probably better educated then he is.  He's puffing out his chest and smacking them down fast so they know just who the boss is.

His "punishment" of the one girl is idiotic, not only did she lose the time with the equipment setup, but the others lost the time to do a little practice with the tape.

I noticed they never made mention of the area where J & G had 3 consecutive nights of a KII conversation with the same spirit ( the one shown on Youtube, not GH  )  - one would think that would be something a bit more important then, " they heard some strange noises here".

It appears that Techmangler Steve is teaching them that the correct way to do video analysis is on the cameras 2 inch screen.

I tend to like Tango more than Steve and I felt like he was afraid to speak out as much as he wanted due to the fact that Steve is the so-called leader of the pact.I just didn't get why the two girls were there since they are already intuned to the spirit world.I know one said it was to become familair with the tech side of the investigation but if you r a medium why would you need to do all of that?I mean couldn't she just go straight to the source and not have to use the recorders and cameras to talk to the ghosts? just a thought.

From what I saw of her…no great loss.

I don't think anyone is going home anytime soon.  They were all present and accounted for at the GH Halloween "special."

I hope that I'm remembering this correctly-I was falling asleep while watching and haven't had the chance to go back over it yet -but-

The one girl (Heather?) who claims she's a medium did not go on the walk through because she said that she did not want to be influenced by knowledge of the past events. I liked her for that. I think that too often people are influenced by what they have been told about someone else's experiences. However, when she was investigating (by herself) in the room where the "apparition" was seen in front of the fireplace, that is one of the first things that she says. Something like"…you were seen in front of that fireplace…". I thought that she was not supposed to know this! After all, she did not go on the walk through for that very reason!

Ah, so you noticed that, too :) And I can't imagine she hadn't watched the original Fort Mifflin episode where all this was discussed, too. She wasn't quite alone, I noticed some very distinct shots of her that indicated she had the invisible cameraman with her lol

And yet, I noticed that when Steve went over camera locations he ruined that whole plan of hers by saying why there was a camera in each location: i.e. this is where we heard noises, here is where an apparition was seen, etc.

It was his usual recap that he gives on GH before the investigation starts.  It really defeated her plan to avoid information from the tour.  Though, I suppose it had less detail.

Good point Brenda…maybe next time she'll just go along and be part of the team. How else will she learn about the various ages of tobacco lol

I think Chris(?) (the long haired one that wasn't female) is going to go far…his first time in and he was already getting touched and seeing shadows. He's on his way!

So, to me, I am getting the vibe that GH (G and J) are cashing out on this whole ordeal and bringing in a new crew to take over the reins? Is anyone else getting this vibe. Based on the NO Live Halloween episode, a total disconnect with most investigations anymore, and just… my gut man. Any thoughts?

Well, Im watching right now (first time) on hulu.  Among many things..I totally thought there was something fishy about the 2 who stopped investigating. It just seemed like a very uncomfortable situation. Almost like they were told to stop and didnt want to "narc" someone out for production reasons lol

I dont know, I could go on and on about many things in this episode. Everyone who posted before me were very acurate about their reviews. I also agree, I feel long hair Chris will go along way.  :)  I liked Karl too.

Great post, Doctor.  I agree that Steve is nervous about being with people who are actually getting a formal education and learning to use their analytic and critical thinking skills.  Jason, IMO, is the same way.  He REALLY seems to despise anyone with smarts and/or has a higher degree above the high school level.

People who have met Steve have noticed his arrogant attitude.  Tango, on the other hand, seems to be a nice guy.

Now let me get this right:  here we have someone who doesn't really know how to calibrate, use and interpret the results of the equipment that he is using.  He hates reading and is proud that, as he has stated, he has only read one book–a ghost hunters manual of sorts.  He's afraid of creepy-crawlies, esp. spiders; in other words, the kind of insects, cobwebs and other sorts of bug related things that are found in most older houses.  He won't fly (I'm not knocking his phobia but in the business he's in it's almost a necessity to be able to travel in that fashion at least part of the time).

Yup, sounds like the perfect instructor to me!

If 50 million people believe a foolish thing, it is still a foolish thing.

The formal education, yes…learning to USE their analytic and critical thinking skills…well, the jury is still out on that one for me. Not just from what I saw of Chris, for example, but from what I've seen that has happened to the formal education system :(
