Ah, Dissension in the Ranks is the title for tonight's program.  A free colander to anyone who can satisfactorily explain how this is different from any of the previous shows.

Tonight the cadets (or is it recruits?) are off to visit a haunted house.  Oh, wait, I do remember the preview from last week now…they are going to the Mark Twain house.  I can't for the life of me remember anything too notable from when GH was there other than that I thought the season had ended the previous week so I didn't even record it.  Wasn't there something with a FLIR image?

Ok…here's my guess:  An argument begins between the cadets/recruits/students/sheep/contestants.  Eric is put in charge of a small group.  Adam and Vera revolt and try to take over.  Commercial.  Violence ensues.  Pushing and shoving.  Vera is pushed to the floor.  Adam and Eric are locked in weird reverse, double choke hold.  They don't notice that Vera, still on the floor, has now become possessed by a demon.  Vera starts speaking in tongues and floats towards the ceiling.  Commercial.  The shot now switches to Steve and Tango desperately trying to contact the group on the walkie-talkie's.  They rush to the area and shine their flashlights on Adam who is shaking and crying in the corner of the room.  Their flashlights scan the room and catch a glimpse of Vera.  Commercial.  The beams of light show Vera sitting on the floor admiring the blood on her hands and arms.  Eric's corpse is beside her.  Tango remarks that he feels "cold" and Steve runs from the room after seeing a spider.  Commercial.  They switch to the other group just wandering about in the dark and asking the tried and true "Is someone here?"

At the end of the show, Adam is booted out for not turning on his EMF detector.

So…this is what I hoping for.  I hope I win that colander…

Yeah that would be worth watching and it could even be made a cross over episode with paranormal State running around trying to exorcise Vera or something.

Hmmm…so I guess I didn't win the colander.

And am I the only one who couldn't tell Brett and Adam apart?  I know one of them is a foot taller than the other, but if they just showed one of them by themselves, I couldn't distinguish them.  Were they brothers or something?  (ok, found out that they weren't brothers but man…couldn't they pass for brothers?)

To write that bit above…I had to look up their names at the SyFy GHA site.  Here's the link:

http://www.syfy.com/ghosthuntersacademy/cadets.php

A couple of things in the little paragraphs below the cadet's names…

1) Adam – "After having several life-changing encounters with the supernatural…"

How many "life-changing encounters" can that kid have?  He's what?  22?  23?  Seriously…a 22 year old having several life-changing encounters with the supernatural.  Am I the only one kind of furrowing his brow and scrunching up his nose at that one?

2) Rosalyn – "…but her confidence has sometimes been mistaken for cockiness."

You know…guess what?  When people keep "mistaking" your confidence for cockiness…maybe, just maybe all those people aren't wrong.  I mean, wouldn't it be cocky to think otherwise?  Just sayin'…

3) Vera – "She claims to be often underestimated because of her looks."

I'm not going to be mean here.  I'm just going to ask two questions:  Really?  I mean…really?

No Colanders for Anybody!

Didn't see anything to set this one apart from any of the others as far as cadets about to revolt.  Could have been called Blame Game or Crazy for Power or I Suffer from Severe Paranoia (Rosalyn).

Brett(?) gets booted off for not getting an illuminator, or at least I assume that was the tipping factor for him.  Or was it for lack of interest…that's it, I think, not the illuminator, his heart wasn't in it anymore so he's dismissed.  Wow, Jason should have been dismissed months ago for his apparent lack of interest in that case.

Steve calling the team on not "mixing it up" and going in and doing the same thing over and over?  The last four or so seasons of GH have been the same thing over and over again.  The episodes follow a script, practically, with the only difference being the location.

What bothered me the most, probably, though was this section:

Adam: "If someone's here on this floor with us and would like to communicate with us, if they would just walk into the room, I'd be able to tell that you're here because I've placed this EMF detector on the ground and it will spike when you get near it."

What bothers me about that?  Well, first there is the fact that "Someone" is singular and would take a singular pronoun and not a plural one like "they"  But also I see here that it is now apparently proven that a ghost will cause a reaction on an EMF detector.  Nowhere has this been proven.  Not even close.  So we've skipped the experimentation phase and jumped to the conclusion phase based upon no evidence.

The "Yes" Vera finds….why does that whole segment sound like something being slid around on the floor or table?  Contaminated evidence to me.

Oh…Brett and Adam.  If they aren't talking and especially in NV, I can't tell the two apart either.  Thank goodness they put the little name tag on the screen sometimes.

Eric "The EMF meter over here went from 2.5 to 4.7".

Brett "Holy God".

Learjet  "LOL… So what?"

The Ghost. "Shutup Learjet. Whenever the EMF meter moves it's paranormal."

This show is so boring. If it's an academy they should have Grant on there teaching them in the art of hangar throwing and fishing line pulls.

Nos,
Did you not know that all the shows are taped on a sound stage in R.I.
All the exterior shots are done by the Jayman's Uncle Walter and Aunt Millie while vacationing in Stango's RV each summer.
S&T only use it as a prop.
Really, just think, would you let those two numbnuts be responsible for anything?
That's why J joined the show.
The first season was like the monkey and the perverbial football.

mmmmk.

Double tap to the head. Don't become Undead.

Definitely a case of "communal reinforcement."

Maybe they should include that in between skepticism and composure in their 5 pillars of nonsense.

Well the five pillars, themselves, are quite noble.  The adherance to them (or the lack that we've seen in the past) is where I do my double-take and insert the "butwaitaminute"  I suspect those 5 things were not thought of as a "core set of standards" until they started filming season 1.5 of GHA

"You shall always follow these five…"

"Three, sir"

"…these three virtues.  If at any point you fail to follow these five virtues…"

"Three virtues, sir"

"…these three virtues, thou shalt be casteth into the Gorge of Eternal Peril"

How about this … Grant teaching how he sets up the flashlight at Ft. Mifflin

Ah another angle at Ft. Mifflin. This doesn't look like the Valpro video. A pity it didn't show the K-II (and Grant) better. The camera missed most off the responses.

Steve and Tango wont let the cadets play with the K-II, or any EMF meters other than the digital that Steve has always liked.

If Brett freaks out over a "4.7" then imagine what lighting up a K-II would do. In either case we will never know…

The GHA home ghosthunting kit you can buy at syfy does include the KII

From the scenes where they have more then one of these things working they never show the same readings at the same time.

Could you imagine how funny a gaggle of five cadets in a room with these things would be ?
