Anyone else disturbed by this episode?  It was so over the top cheesy that I kept shaking my head in dismay.  Are we seriously supposed to believe that Billy in the van wasn't creating the noises and the voices that they were hearing?  And the image captured by the Full Spectrum DVR (I think) looked like nothing. I never saw and image even when they outlined one for me.  With this episode airing before the Ghostly Lovers episode, I think The Travel Channel and MY-Tupelo Entertainment may have a new series/genre on their hands that plays to people who have "spectrophilia".

Go with me on this one skeptical viewers:

GA team goes in an investigates a haunted location that's haunted by a single male/female entity

They find "evidence" of this entity

They leave and queue pornstar actor/actress all alone (heck I think Zak may want to do this himself based on his "acting" in this episode)

He/She is armed with a PX box for instant communication

The door opens on its own

The actor/actress remarks that a shadow person is standing in the doorway and the blanket mysteriously being pulled back

They start communicating using the PX box

Insert cheesy dialogue like GA's "gentle….lay" from this Vday episode

Queue cheesy 70s porno music

and VOILA! Let the Ghost Adventures Lover series begin!

The best part of this episode was when Zak slipped and fell on the ice outside while trying to create a love poem.

In fact, MY-Tupelo Entertainment may have a new series/genre on their hands.

Quick!  This is really "high concept." If you don't pitch it to Pilgrim, I will.  Wink

I missed this episode but I did catch the part where Zak slipped on the ice. Was I just seeing and hearing things or did they say they had an EVP that was caught when Zak fell?

This show just gets more cheesy by the minute.

I sat through as much of this as I could stand. These guys hear what they want to hear, see what they want to see and feel what they want to feel. Everything is paranormal. Every location is haunted. I could hand them my hat and it would become a ghost detector.

Some viewers believe everything they do. As if the IQ of the general population wasn't low enough, these guys strive to push it all the way down to zero.

Sorry for venting but I just crossed paths elsewhere with a true believer of GA.

No apology needed Learjet, I hear from true GA believers almost on a daily basis and no amount of evidence or scientific reasoning can ever be used in a conversation with them. I've even shown them my voice recorder which is the same that GA uses and shown how it makes mechanical noises just from moving it around to fast and I have even compared sound bytes from the show with ones I recorded on my own recorder from just waving it around and still they tell me that I am wrong. If Zak and co. would go to a location during the day, check out all the doors, show what type of hinges the door uses, how heavy the door is and show proof that this door never moves on its own because of its weight and that there is no drafts in this room that could move the door, then I might consider evidence of a door shutting by itself. Sorry for going off about the door but that is the one thing that they all throw at me. I hear more about shutting doors than I do about their EVP's.

I wonder if I could make my own Franks Box and put the voice of Al Franken in it and call it the Franken Box and sell it? Hmmm…

Notice after that brief spat of door movings on GH that they've decided to drop that gimmick?  On to the next "theme"

My vote for the next big gimmick:

Spiritual Automatic Writing.

I think Donna on GH mentioned doing it once, but I just know GHI could really fly with it and it would be so much more interesting and interactive than "flashlight on, flashlight off".  Combine it with highly honed cryptomania and a dash of confabulation and you would have, in Flournoy's words, "romances of the subliminal imagination, derived largely from forgotten sources."

Except it would be really, really real.

@Axel: Very tempting to pitch the show, maybe it will be my meal ticket! Wink  @Learjet and Ghaleaon, sadly, I WAS one of those believers in GA and even friended them on Facebook, but then it just became obvious to me after a few shows, that something wasn't right.  At the time, Zak's looks made up for the strange "evidence' on the show; however, now, I just want to cut his hair, pull up his pants, and tell him just to stand there and be quiet so that he looks more appealing. Laugh I have since "unfriended" them on Facebook out of disgust!

Being the little librarian researcher that I am, I started doing research on the show and other paranormal shows that I watch, like GH, and found this site.  If I could, I would rewatch the episodes that were discussed on here and would see and hear exactly what I thought I didn't see and didn't hear that they were insisting that I was.  Just like in this episode and the "image".

When Zak fell, I don't recall them saying they captured an EVP (I could be wrong on that), but they supposedly captured the EVP of "They look strong" when Zak thought he saw a woman in a white dress and then they caught a cold spot with their temper gauge.

These three are definitely the first bunch of paranormal investigators that continually capture something with their name on it or some reference to them at pretty much EVERY location. That alone should be enough for someone to start scratching their heads at the "evidence".  Maybe ghosts have Facebook pages or blogs too and discuss these three all the time! Wink

I was the same way Buffy, when Ghost Hunters first came on I had already been doing some paranormal research but I still bought into the concept. Finally it became beyond obvious what they where doing. I also agree with you about how Zak and the crew are the only ones to have "ghosts" know their names at EVERY location they go too and plus they always have it out for them. It's almost got to the point that it reminds me of professional wrestling, in the sense of you wonder how many is going to step out and make threats and challenges to these guys.

When they use the Ovulus they have to be editing the scenes to get  that much speech out of it. I know 3 people who bought these devices because they truested GA and all 3 of them have told me that every other word out of these things is the word demon. One even told me that he turned it on in his office and left it on for the drive home and while at home and every 20 minutes it would say the word demon and hot or demon and cold.

I would still like to believe the origins of GH were honourable. That before the show, they were doing something they believed in.

But it is really not feasible to do what the program has set itself up to do without elements of deceit and fraud creeping in.  Was the obvious from the beginning?  Possibly.  Possibly not.  Either way, they have devolved into relying on a constant stream of "What was that?" and pounding mood music to cover the stasis of "boring" reality.

I would have much preferred less spectacle and more analysis.  Research into the real origins of EVPs, the theories and evidence for "battery drain", cold spots.  A sort of paranormal Mythbusters with occasional cases thrown in for serious analysis using a truly skeptical and unbiased examination of the evidence.  There were flashes of that in the beginning.  But by jumping on the least common denominator bandwagon of Most Haunted/Ghost Adventure, Pilgrim has made the whole enterprise appear tedious, spurious and utterly predictable.

Their first episode was tainted with controversy; so from the onset the show has had problems. See:

http://www.skepticalviewer.com…..oona-home/

And the mood music was there from Day One as well so, coupled with the above, their onscreen debut was already off on the wrong foot. Add that to the whole notion of them being plumbers (also shown from the very first episode), complete with scenes of them installing water heaters, dishwashers, et cetera

Prior to the show being filmed they may have been a more noble enterprise but, as we've seen, such would not make for good entertainment.  And that is not entirely their fault, we've seen posts here and elsewhere from people complaining of the ennui that washes over them when nothing happens.  No producer is going to let that happen, thus the turn to the darkside.  Facts make for poor entertainment…Mythbusters can get away with debunking and maintaining a truer course by the mere act of blowing things up.

So true Nosfer. In the case of Mythbusters, if an episode is taking the slow and accurate route to get the true answer then the truth seekers are happy but the entertainment seekers are not. So they usually have an explosion and now both parties are happy.  There will never be a paranormal show that seriously looks at everything from a scientific angle and just shows nothing but facts, there just is not enough viewers to keep it afloat. Spice it up with some bangs, spooky music and some jump scares then it would be a hit. Sadly though if they ever did consider doing a show like that then it would probably end up with people like from FoF in charge of it and you know what your left with then.

LOL re: the Ovilus.  This ridiculous device and other related items (Frank's Box, Telephone to the Dead) will go down in history as more quackery designed to fool and fleece the gullible.  If one has money to throw away, it would be interesting to purchase one and disassemble it to find out what really makes it tick.  If I win the lottery, I promise this is the first thing I will do–have it taken apart by people more technically inclined than I am.  The results would probably be very revealing indeed.

Some time ago, a responder named John on Yahoo Answers had this to say about the device:

"I have not seen the circuit diagram for this, but based on what I saw and what the instruction manual
says, all it does is make arbitrary sensor readings (probably EM), and
based on those it arbitrarily selects a word from it's arbitrarily
loaded internal dictionary, and then uses a voice synth to vocalize that
word."

Another gimmick has emerged.

If 50 million people believe a foolish thing, it is still a foolish thing.
