In October, I'll be accompanying my lovely wife to a conference in New Orleans. The conference is for her, not for me, so I'll have some spare time. Now, the Ghost Hunters investigated Brennan's in New Orleans, but aside from creepy portraits didn't find much. Is there anything in New Orleans that I should investigate, aside from Bourbon Street?

No graveyards– my wife extracted a promise from me not to investigate any graveyards at night, since they're apparently dangerous, and she doesn't trust that my particular brand of Skeptic-Fu will work on attackers.

Also, if any Skeptical Viewers live near New Orleans and would be interested in meeting me for a drink or three, let me know.

Sounds like a lot of fun Stephen.  I don't know too much about paranormal related places in New Orleans but I have stayed at Hotel Montelone which I've heard has been the subject of rumors as well as another place I stayed at which is Le Pavillon and neither of them sought out or needed the publicity.  Been to Brennan's – sorry GH – nothing there except the New Orleans atmosphere and some good food.  The biggest story I've heard (other than the cemeteries) is LaLaurie House which seems to be a big draw although I'm not sure if it's a "tourist trap" place or not.  I've also heard of rumors surrounding St. Charles Cathedral in Jackson Square and Pere Antoine's Alley and Pere Dagobert, a Capuchin monk who was a pastor at the Cathedral.  Suggest if things don't pan out there, walk over to Cafe Du Mond and you can be sure to at least have a good strong cup of coffee and chichory with their incredible beignets along the Mississippi.  Don't miss eating at Galatoire's, Pascal's Manale, Court of Two Sisters or Antoine's.  If you are staying in any small hotel along Bourbon Street, you might want to take ear plugs.  I can only speak to that pre-Katrina though.  We didn't get a wink of sleep for all the partying.

Have a great time and keep us posted.

EDIT:  Link from real estate property blog about properties in NOLA and the LaLaurie House is here.

There is a house in New Orleans ……… it's been the ruin of many a poor boy.

Stephen – add to the list of ruined boys and tell your wife I sent you.

Be sure to pack your K2 and have a great trip.

LOL, I know that place…it's best to see it at Sun Rise, though, so no lights-out investigations.

You might search Haunted New Orleans or Haunted New Orleans Tours.

I think they take you to where the famous voodoo queen Marie Laveau is buried.

When we were there back in 1982, i don't recall us going to that grave yard. It's not in a great neighborhood. There are other cemeteries that may or may not be haunted, and in better areas.

I recall one that was very well kept, with  large fancy monuments, but can't recall the name.

I think there is a bar called the Bucket of Blood. It's located in an old mansion. The place was once owned by a sultan. One day a sultan appeared and he purchased a mansion that was for sale. Son his harem girls and body guards arrived. All went well for the sultan and his staff, until one terrible night, when all were killed.

In the morning, some passersby noticed what appeared to be a red liquid running out the door.Someone releazied it was blood, and they went for the police. What the police found was a bloodbath.Blood and body parts all over the place, like the people had been hacked to death. The body of the sultan was later found outside the house in the garden.

Nicholas Cage owns the Lalaurie House. He was on Jay Leno, when Leno was still hosting the Tonight Show.It was an interview earlier ,back maybe April or May.Leno asked Cage about the house.Nick said that they did stay at the house, but not at night. Jay asked if he would let anyone investigate the house for ghosts, and Nick said no. Personaly ,I think that's a shame, as considering all the horrible things that happend to the Laulaurie servants, activity must be going on there, but from what Cage said, I got the impression he didn't want to exploit the misery these ghosts went through in life. However I still think it would be interesting to see what GH would get.
