Have you ever been sitting around and thinking to yourself "Hey, I like paranormal stuff. I'd like to learn more about paranormal stuff. And, most importantly, I'd like a certificate saying that I learned about that paranormal stuff." If so…then look no further…
http://www.flamelcollege.org/index.html
That's right. Flamel College will cater to your every paranormal wish. And will hand out certificates to verify that your wishes have come true.
When I first heard the name "Flamel"…I knew I had heard it before, but I just couldn't place it. Then it hit me. I had gone through this before. In the film "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" Nicolas Flamel was mentioned in conjunction with the Philosopher's Stone. Neither Flamel or the Stone were inventions of the author.
I had read about them before in a few books that I have on alchemy and the history of science. In most versions of the Philosopher's Stone, it was an alchemical tool that turned metal to gold. Other stories said that it was also the "elixer of life" which is how it was portrayed in the Potter film. If you wish to know more about Nicolas Flamel, then wiki can help you here. The website doesn't say that the college is named after him, but, it's a pretty good guess.
So…what does the school offer? Well, just breeze through the site and have fun. It's hard to pick a favorite, but…I'm going with PS101 Paranormal Investigator Certification. Why? Because "Included is a sophisticated electronic ghost hunting device, so you can start your investigations immediately." Sweet. I didn't even know that the theory of ghosts being real had been verified and devices had been made to hunt them. Wow…where have I been?
A word of warning though to our younger readers still in college. In the FAQ section, it says this about their classes being accredited:
"Flamel College is a non-traditional school offering alternative education in the Esoteric Arts and Hermetic Sciences. Our courses are accredited by appropriate governing bodies and organizations, but are generally not transferrable to conventional universities. We work with a wide variety of organizations to ensure our students receive international acceptance of their coursework and peer recognition of all certificates and diplomas issued by Flamel College."
I can't find out exactly who those "appropriate governing bodies and organizations" are. I looked in the "Links" section but most of those websites seem to be connected to the faculty. Then again, they may be on the site and I just couldn't find them. I mean, I went to a "conventional university" so what do I know? Well, except for knowing how to correctly spell the word "transferable."
And…if you're looking to buff up that resume a bit, well, they also offer degrees in Hermetic Sciences and Esoteric Arts. So, you know, if you're really looking for a way to stand out from the pack for a job…well, you've got it now…
Anyway…I'd love to write more on this, but I have homework to do in my Wizard Apprenticeship class…
PS. Alicat sent this link my way. She was going to post on it herself but she was way too busy with her Seven Rays of Healing Certification…
