Anybody else think it would be better, to just send the investigation teams in cold. Why the stories and the showing of ( hot spots ) if they are real won't they show up durring the investigation? I hate the tours and stories. Just go in and find what you find….. Also on the FLIR camera when they see red it's a ghost when they see blue it's a ghost which is it…. Why would a ghost need to suck the power out of a battery, When the house is wired with 110. Too much power?

no personal electronics. no watches, phones, car remotes etc. each team member frisked and dressed in jump suits with no pockets.  no previous history of the site, no talking to team members who may have investigated earlier, no overwhelming soundtrack, no cameras pointed at them but instead – at what they are looking at, no nightvision – shoot in the bloody daytime – the list goes on

We've had this "cold vs tour" discussion a few times before on SV

110 may be too much for them, wrong frequency, too much juice behind it, etc.

I'm starting to get a feel for what makes a place haunted. The best haunted places are not built straight, have crooked doors, loose floor boards and vibrations that move furniture around. They may also have drafts, sound resonant areas, noisy wildlife / nightlife, spiders, cold nights that drain batteries, bad electrical wiring and of course high EMF levels. Throw in equipment misuse and the ambience of night. <—— All equal a big hairy ghost.

Well, if you can trust everything you see, you do see them finding things that the client did not tell them (but which has been experience at the place) and only brings it up when J&G tell them about something else that they found. So, with everything being true and honest, they do find things that they haven't been "led to find"

it'll never happen.  the reason shows like Most Haunted and Ghost Hunters are so well received – people want to believe in life after death.  if they find a show that tells them there is, they'll grasp at the hope and back iot to the hilt, no matter what.  it's all down to those that need to believe in something, and most religions promise life after death.  if there IS no life after death, you are questioning everything they believe in.

so make it dark, put in the eerie music, give your investigators equipment and theories they only half understand, fake the occassional scene – and everybody goes home happy.

I think that's only partly true. It's not JUST the desire for an afterlife or the comfort it might provide some. It's also the attention span of the viewing public. We've had some pretty strong non-believers in here make statements about the show (GH) being boring when nothing was found, or if the types of findings to consider were minimal. Boring…no producer likes to hear that about his show. So crank it up and give the public what they want. Not necessarily ghosts but entertainment.

These shows may have led you to believe in another fallacy;  that paranormal events are common and repeatable.  Just because someone goes in there with a team some night doesn't mean anything will happen.  Or the next night.. or the next.

Think about the stories you hear:  people may work someplace daily (or nightly) for weeks or even years but only have 2 or 3 decent encounters to speak of.  I think the silliest thing is for these shows to give the impression that "ghosts" are fulltime residents of the locations they haunt.   The most "genuine" hauntings seem to occur, on the whole, quite intermittently.  A real investigation of a single location could take weeks or months of staking the place out before any good "evidence" (I hate using that term) is gathered.

Having an open mind is a two way street.

Nothing wrong with the term "evidence" to me. I'm trying to think of the last non-haunted place they (GH) went to. If they are catching things every where they go, even if the investigation is over the span of two nights, why not come back and hit it good a second time, refining your setup based upon what you found the last time.

GHA goes to a bunch of places and finds squat until the last episode which must have been designed to show that they are ready now because they found something. Their technique was no worse in episode 1 than a typical night with the GH folks, yet the GH folks are finding things almost everywhere. Is it a function of the places…no, GHA went to the same places GH went to. Is it a function of who is investigating? Probably, but not in the sense of GH having more "experience" It's more that it better fit the story line that the producers are trying to sell.

I also wonder, if you made it back from the dead to interact with this world, Why close or open a door? Move a chair or lamp. Why not tell us living what it's like there. And the Psychic's are all telling the ghosts what to do as if they know more about being dead than the dead do.  If I was dead and came back some how I would have ansewers for things. Not just bang out shave and a hair cut on a table or wall.

Assuming an "if" here, who knows what the limitations might be, you might not be able to just walk up to someone like you did when you were alive and say, "Well, here's how it is in the afterlife." If it were, believe me, it would have happened.
