A couple of things bug me about TAPS. But perhaps there are legit reasons for these, so feel free to educate:
1) It seems to me there are times when TAPS believes they've made contact with a spirit, but they just go on and on, "If that was you, tap twice." …tap tap… "OK. Now tap three times real fast." …tap tap tap…"Ok. If that really was you, move this object." I picture some spirit thinking, "Man. Forget you guys. I wanted to tell you about the afterlife; not knock on the wall and do tricks all night."
2) "We're not here to hurt you." Ahhhh……….guys? They're dead.

For #1 I'd agree but on the other hand I also like to have as much evidence as possible, so it's a catch-22. On the one hand if there really is a spirit there then you risk annoying the heck out of it, on the other hand if you have an unbroken string of clear, consecutive responses then the evidence becomes more compelling.
As to #2, I think the reasoning is that if there is a spirit in the building, it may not realize it is dead and may be confused and scared by a world that doesn't seem to respond to their presence the way it's supposed to.

I've often wondered why, after asking the spirit(s) to make a noise of some sort, TAPS investigators respond to the resulting–and obliging–noise by saying something along the lines of "what the hell?" Now, if I were a spirit, after having responded positively to their request, I would be insulted.
As for TAPS' assurances that "we're not here to hurt you," THAT I get. From what we know about hauntings (via anecdotes and historical contexts, mostly, along with a good dose of imaginative empathy), "earthbound spirits" or ghosts, if you will, seem to be rather vulnerable beings.

Ok. I'll accept the reason for #2. I also like when they try to explain the equipment they're using. There's stuff on this computer I'm using right now that I don't understand; I can only imagine someone from 200-300 years ago…
I'm still not convinced about #1. Once you get a response, start asking yes/no questions. Come back and ask a couple of earlier questions a second time (perhaps phrase them differently) to see if the responses are the same. For me, anything's better than, "I'm going to count to…" "Throw something." "Knock three more times" "What's the square root of …" "Do you want to dance with my……" Oops. Wrong show.
