"It's time for our annual Paranormal Photo Hoax contest! Put your best photo editing skills to work and create a phony picture of ghosts, monsters, UFOs or some other weirdness your brain can concoct. You have until May 29 to create your masterpiece."
Not sure if there is a prize involved.

Actually I accidentally took a pretty good one about a week ago. Forgot I had my shutter speed where it was (I had previously been doing some astro-photography) I took a daylight shot and my subject turned out completely transparent. Interesting effect when you have a 3" exposure and the subject quickly walks away after the first click!!

Here's my favorite part:
"Hoaxes such as these – intended to deceive – can hinder and even harm legitimate paranormal research, and all such attempts are to be condemned.
Our contest, by contrast, is just for fun, and all photos will be captioned clearly as being fake."
People hoax because, yes, they intend to deceive. Why? Because it's fun. Not as big of a contrast as they think. And yes, the captions clearly stating that they are fake will solve everything. Brilliant!
Not exactly sure how the contest itself doesn't "hinder and even harm legitimate paranormal research." Perhaps this contest should be "condemned." I mean, don't we have enough over-exposures, cigarette smoke, and photo-shopped stuff around to choose from already?

Captions are one thing…until the photo is taken from the context of the page and the caption removed. Then, The Sun gets a hold of the photo…and it's staring at me from the Express Lane at the Supermarket!

Exactly…
Hey, are you going to post your photo? I'd like to see it if possible.

I whacked it since I just considered it a screw-up and I wasn't really thinking of the marketing opportunity at the time! Given the frequency at which I switch between types of photography, though, there's bound to be another!!

Enter it. Might be fun to have a hoaxed picture by a skeptic win.

I had a fake photo put up on Coast to Coast a while back :D I included my email for added lulz, and had people from all over the world write and tell me that it was a demon and one poor person said they had been dreaming about it their whole life. It was fun.

Um…that was me. Wait…the picture isn't real?
Excellent job though. Cool backdrop, nice imagery. Just top notch…

You and Nosfer need to enter. Plus I am sure there are other excellent photographers in the forum. I, though in no way including myself in the excellent group, could enter one. I always seem to cut off heads in pictures. Wallydraigle, I have to ask, did you reply to these people?

Huh? The Sun is not a credible news source?

Definitely enter the photos. It would be fun. Nothing to lose and there might even be a prize? Hey, go for it!
So many people want to believe that I'll bet some of the best photos will be posted around the web as being authentic and then watch the real fun begin!

I replied to some of them. I tried to not string them along too much, because afterwards I kind of felt bad about it. Just a little. I mean, it was fun, but I probably wouldn't do it again.
What's cool about that photo is that I didn't do anything to it in software. That's all done in-camera, and I have a RAW file of it and all.

You're in Australia, right? You should do a photo of a thylacine chasing after a ghost in the moonlight of the outback. That way, you cover both ghosts and cryptozoology. You can't lose with that combo!
