Didn't see this posted yet, and figured folks could use a laugh:

I like how the back says "An actual pic…"

Jackpot!  When I saw the picture, I was absolutely floored.  Finally…some real scientific evidence.

…………. Surprised

Ok…the medication has kicked and I'm feeling much better now.  Yeah…that is some picture.  You know, just for the record…if one is going to commit a hoax (not that this is a hoax… Undecided ), the absolutely worst place to do it would be Texas.  There's a few people with guns in that state.  Wait…I worded that incorrectly.  There are few people without guns in that state.  Committing a hoax in Texas…man, you're taking some mighty big chances there…

And for your viewing pleasure…an article from 2006 at Cryptomundo:

"Six terrified residents told police early today they were attacked by a thing they described as being half-man, half-goat and covered with fur and scales.

Okay, if it was half-man and half-goat, what part do the scales come from? Perhaps they meant "half-man, half-goat, and half-fish"?

Where do the scales come from?  Where do the scales come from?  I'll tell you where the scales come from Mr Sticking-his-nose-in-cryptozoology-where-it-doesn't-belong-and-asking-questions-using-all-kinds-of-logic-and-reasoning.  Everyone knows that scales are not exclusive to fish and reptiles.  Anyone who is anyone knows that this was verified in the spring of 1692 with the Desoto eye-witness account of a half-man and half-cow.  It also had scales.  I mean…how much more proof do you skeptics need???  Tongue out

Actually I was thinking it could be more along the lines of a really bad case of psoriasis! Course, maybe that, too, is what De Soto saw.

Now I'm thinking again but I think your De Soto account of 1692 has some additional significant meaning. Not only do we have a cryptid sighting but it was also done by the ghost of someone who died 150 years earlier. So, we've just proved two paranormalties! I'd say it's time we pop open a few cold ones and celebrate!

I think I better go read that story.  I didn't even know they had cameras in 1692.

Oh man, De Soto's ghost even got a picture of it?!? I'd say that calls for a third cold one, we've just proven spirit photographers (we still need to work on our proof of spirit photographY though)!

Two questions.
How large is Greer Island?
It must be pretty big to have an undisclosed location on it.
Maybe we need to get in touch with Dick Cheney on that.

Also, does the KFC attract or repel the creature?
They were a little vague on that.

If anyone is truly interested in reading Ms. Clarke's book, there are two for sale on Amazon. The book has a large sketch of the "monster" on the cover and there is one new and one used in "excellent" condition.  The best part of it is the cost for each book.  You really won't believe it!  Surprised Money mouth

Why do I suspect that the author owns the only existing two copies available?

And WHY is the USED one TWICE as much as the NEW one? Was it read by the monster itself? Does it come complete with hair, er, scale samples?

My first thought was the author owned both copies and I was going to say she needed the money in her declining years.  Then I looked at the "used" book when I saw the incredible prices and the owner of that book is located in Maryland.  Who in their right mind would pay either price for this?  Perhaps the "used" one is signed by the Monster itself and the Monster moved to MD and decided to sell it's only copy?  I'll have to check to see if there are any reports down there.  Laughing

Hmmm, I dunno'.
That illustration on the front cover looks an awfully lot like one of those Geico cavemen.
Maybe it was Gramps on vacation in 1969.

Yes it does BD50.  And what's with the fish in left hand and the raised right arm?  You know, with all the drugs done in the 60's, that wouldn't have been such an unusual look.  Wink Laughing

They had an aritcle in Sunday's San Antonio Express News which says the same thing as the  link posted.

I grew up in Sna Antonio in the 60s, before we moved to Elmendorf AFB near Anchorage, Alaska in 1965 or 66. I don't recall anything about this when it happend, or if my parents did read about it in the paper, I guess they considered it a hoax. I think Lone Star Spirits  on their website mentions something about the San Marcos river and Palmetto State Park, where some hunters thought they saw some sort of  hairy beast or whatever. The park is near Gonzales ,the town where the first shot fired in the Texas revolution occured.

You might want to Google WildMan of the San Marcos River and see what you get.

An excellent question.  I kind of tilted my head when I read that they threw a bag of chicken at the monster.  I mean, if it were just a wild animal such as a bear or a bobcat…would you throw food at it to make it go away?

Throughout the years, I've gotten books on the paranormal as gifts (as I can't bring myself to buy them myself…I can't stand the thought of giving my money to help support the nonsense that some of these authors are spouting…anyway…).  One of them had something on the Lake Worth Monster.  Pretty much the same story.  The only interesting part is that it states that all the sightings stopped by 1970.  Kind of the same time hunters with rifles began looking for it.  A hoax or two are pretty funny.  Getting shot while doing one…yeah, not so funny anymore…

HollyDolly- I'm not finding anything on a monster in connection with the San Marcos River.  It could be listed as a typical Bigfoot sighting though.  Anyway, I'll look around tonight when I have more time.

Revenant,

"The only interesting part is that it states that all the sightings stopped by 1970.  Kind of the same time hunters with rifles began looking for it.  A hoax or two are pretty funny.  Getting shot while doing one…yeah, not so funny anymore…"

or apparently right after Ms. Clarke wrote and published her own book in 1969?  Interesting isn't it?  Wink

EDIT:  We need to get Hannah on the Wild Man of San Marcos.  I'll check on it.

The "used" copy must be signed by the Monster.

I'd be embarrassed to have such a stupid cover on any book I wrote.  Embarassed
