There seems to be a very small debate online over this article. Some people are claiming that what Mr. Radford meant was that the current physical description of El Chupacabra can be traced back to the 1995 film Species, not necessarily that the entire legend originated that year.
Google seems to validate the latter opinion, as the earliest result returned for "El Chupacabra" is indeed 1995. A search for "Bigfoot," on the other hand, will populate articles dating back to '75.
"Some people"…are claiming that the entire legend didn't necessarily originate in that year. Are any of these people cryptozoologists and if so, what are they basing their arguments on? And if possible, can you please provide links?
As for your second paragraph, I don't understand what you are saying. What is significant about Bigfoot and 1975? The Patterson-Gimlin film came out, supposedly, in 1967. And if you're looking for Bigfoot's creation…I did love this for food for thought:

I should really follow up and try to get a hold of that guy's paper. It seems pretty interesting.
So…not seeing what Bigfoot has to do with 1975.
