Is there anyway we could start a Viral Videos section? Instead of the FoF crew looking at them. There are lots of really interesting videos out there that could be up to debate instead of having to wait for FoF to talk about them or some of them that are skipped. Thoughts?

We've kicked the idea around a few times, there was a brief discussion in one of these FoF threads somewhere.

I think it would be a good idea. Gives us something outside of the TV shows and our own experiences. I know there are plenty of videos out there.

I vote "nay."
At first, I was for something like this. Upon thinking about it…I don't see a point. We already examine nonsense…I mean evidence…from paranormal television shows. As horrid as these shows are, at least they give us a basis of which to intelligently discuss things. We can collectively see their investigatory methods. We can tell something about the people involved. We can see…hopefully…different angles of an event or at the very least, the area itself.
When you start looking at Youtube…you start getting into the "three second wonders" for cryptids and obviously fake videos made by budding film-students for the ghost portion. Even if it is interesting…we have no reference points. No clue who the people are, any information about the place or the event…it's just a bunch of speculation. At least with the television shows, we can generally see what they're doing…or not doing…
Besides, if a video is interesting, just pick a secton a plop it in there. We've been doing that all along and its worked out quite well. I don't see a need for a specific section.
I vote "nay" again…since I get two votes.

Two votes? I don't recall seeing that in any bylaws!
I would vote nay on just going out and looking for random videos to make a judgement on. There are just so many. I did a search on youtube earlier for ghost video and there are a LOT. And most of them are fake. I mean, if ONE person has seen that many ghosts and managed to get them on video (some people have multiple videos posted of different hauntings)…why haven't we solved this whole ghost thing once and for all. Some have just bad editing. And as Revenant mentioned above, you get a lot of ones that are very short…why not a longer lead in and follow after the "event?" (rhetorical question, we all know why) And then you have the ones shot with a cellphone through cheesecloth at night by someone whose hand is shaking as bad as if it were just whacked with a mallet.
I would vote maybe on taking a look at some of the ones that FoF does NOT investigate. But there would need to be a compelling reason to take a look at a particular one.
I would vote yes on continuing to do what we have been doing all along which is to examine the videos that they DO use.
Hmmm, looks like I got three votes in!

I think reviewing viral videos could be fun. On the other hand, I don't want to create a sub-forum unless it's going to be active.
So here's the deal. Post video threads in "General Paranormal Discussion". If there are enough of them, and it seems like an enjoyable pastime (for stephen-defined values of "enough" and "enjoyable") I'll create the sub-forum.

I will say that this could be fun. I have no patients to go through youtube and look at all the junk videos to find something that might look interesting.

I def understand the point of not wanting to put out useless videos. I also understand the level of difficulty since you have to first assume it was faked since a youtube uploader doesn't care about credibility. I will start a thread up once I find a good video or someone else can if they know of one.

No, you don't first assume it's faked…that implies that you go into it with a bias which is not how a skeptic views things.
