The last episodes of this second half of the first season of FOF have a water theme. Our intrepid crew goes in search of some CCR in the first of these and, in the second, I'm sure Bill will turn it into a ghost hunt and hold some sort of EVP session.

Note: In this case, CCR is Credence Clearwater Revival, not Condition Code Register…giving the former as an answer on a test during my early programming days rather than the latter cost me a few points, but that's another story.

Okay, so if they aren't going after the band, what are we left with? Well, either it's the IFL team or another Sasquatch and, unfortunately, it will probably be the latter. Unless, of course, the Louisiana team moonlights at night in the swamp wearing costumes.

Watch as the gang realizes that reptiles are cold-blooded and wonder why they didn't see any hotspots on the FLIR moments before Ben gets his ankle eaten.

Watch as Jael learns how hard it is to cough underwater during an EVP session.

Watch as Bill learns that maniac and repeated rowing during a ghost hunt will get you miles upstream and out of range of the camera. What was that about small miracles?

Even though we have a water theme going for this season finale, my glass will be filled with something a little stronger.

Drinking Game Words: Prepositions and Definite Articles…that should get you through the hour without too much pain.

First we have the Christmas episode of GH, now we have the Christmas episode of FoF. Think they went a little over board with the decorations on the set for FoF?

It seems our "lead scientist" Bill knows nothing about methane gas and how it works when in deposits under water. As is the case in one of the videos, Bill is in complete awe, while Ben has to fill our beloved "scientist" in on how methane works. But they at least did do some legit homework for one video, so I guess that can be our Christmas miracle for this show. But wait, just when you thought our "scientist" had looked bad enough from the prior statement, he comes to the rescue to make the rest of the guys look a little smarter again. He brings us a video that turns out to be a viral ad for a horror channel. Every video I have found of this states in numerous positions in the comment boxs that this is a viral vid, so I guess Bill doesn't read.

Anybody catch Bill, Austin and Larry all 3 saying that they have never done a ghost light case before? Was the Paulding Light not considered a ghost light when they did that investigation?

As for the videos that the crew uses and persues, well… lets just say that they seemed pretty obvious from the get go what they where.

Hmmm…ok…two things:

First…what did either case have to do with Xmas?  For an Xmas-themed show, you would think that they would have chosen Xmas-themed cases.  Like these:

A cryptid to chase around -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v…..5rON78idQY

And a ghost -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v…..0UY4tHHb4o

The second thing…Austin said that the river in Portland was haunted.  How does that work exactly?  What are the dynamics behind it?  Seems like a pretty big river.  Is every square mile of it haunted?  Do the shorelines count?  Would the bridges over the river see paranormal action?  What if I flew a plane directly over the river and followed the length of it…would there be paranormal activity in the plane?  Hmmm…instead of a plane, what if I followed the length of the river in a jet-pack?  If I fished in the river…could the fish possibly be ghosts (I know the one that got away must have been a ghost…)?  If the fish were real and I took them home…would the ghosts follow?  What if someone in Portland sent me a sample of the water…would ghosts be in that water?  Man…so many questions.  I wish Austin, the stunt-expert…, took some time away from Frisbee Golf and explained some of this paranormal stuff to me.  That would be great…

Confused

Well…yes and no.  The huge ones in Russia are attributed to a release of methane…

http://www.livescience.com/str…..rcles.html

But…there are smaller ones.  They're rare and based on many factors (none of them being methane).  I saw show on them not too long ago.  They built a sweet model to show how they are formed by eddies (basically…like I said, amongst other factors…).

Anyway, here's an interesting view on them…

And some cool pictures of smaller ones can be found here (just scroll down mid-way).

One question that I have with the "river ghost" case is about the camera. Jael says that she is shooting all of this on the point and click camera yet at the end when they compare the 2 videos, there is no comparison. The original is all grainy and has the typical look of a video made by a point and click. Jael's on the other hand is very sharp and crisp. I am no expert on cameras by any means I am just curious as to why the big difference in the resolution. Was it touched up afterwards?

Nice reviews.  My favorite line:

"Larry will go down in history as being the only person feeling the need to wear a tie into a swamp."

Hmmm…if my choices are a tie or shades, baseball cap, and bomber jacket like Captain Crazy…er…I mean Bill Birnes…then I'd go with the tie too.

And when Larry and Ben exited their boat to see what made a particular noise…was I the only one rooting for a 13 foot alligator?  The baby alligator was SUCH a disappointment…

I'm not sure which camera they were using so I don't know about it's particular features.  I have three point and shoots, two bridges, and one DSLR and each, of course, has more or less sophistication than the other.  The point and shoots are all older by a few years but with one you were limited to shooting different "scenes" with them. Landscape, People, Fireworks, Nighttime, etc.

In each of those settings, the camera would pick auto settings for shutter, aperture, ISO, and so forth based upon what scene you chose.

It is possible that, in the original, a scene was used that boosted the ISO to shoot at night easier, though possibly boosted unnecessarily high, and introduced the noise that is typical with small sensor cameras.  Jael may have been shooting using a different scene which kept the ISO down.  Or, if the point and shoot was like one other of my P&S, it could have more manual control over settings which would carry over into the movie option of it like is possible on my bridges and especially the DSLR.  In that case, Jael may have had some lessons from the photography expert ahead of time and adjusted the settings for a cleaner night shot.

I don't understand why the Honey Island Monster is declared  "a fake", by Chi-Lan.  A fake is by definition something created with "the intention to deceive."   There is absolutely no evidence of that here.

If there is any veracity to the story…which I see no reason to question…a man filmed what looked to others like a swamp monster.  But he never brought it forward or made any claims for it himself.  Which suggests that he probably knew exactly what he filmed.  Possibly his hunting buddy showing off or testing a new gilly suit.  Years later, after his death, relatives watching the old film make a different interpretation and it is brought to  FOF's attention.

It hardly seems charitable or reasonable to then declare it "faked" with the word's negative ethical connotations.

Several of these episodes were that way…and several were very obviously done to decieve (ie the alien autopsy).  Of course, the whole premise of debunking by recreating is a flaw with this show, so I guess what's one more flaw Laugh  They should introduce the video saying that the prevailing notion is that the video shows "such and such" and they should respond by whether or not it does…and base that decision on something that makes sense rather than just trying to recreate it.  Alas, we have at least six more episodes of this to look forward to.

Unfortunately, like many, these guys are incapable of seeing shades, it's On or Off.  Fact or Faked.  It's like asking someone a question and telling him that he can only respond Yes or No…and then asking him if he still steals.
