The summer-season finale. I guess you get more advertising dollars if it's a finale, thus SciFi's decision to start having two season finale's per year…what's next, a semi-annual Lincoln's Birthday sale at the mall?
One case tonight centers around ghost video of a civil war soldier shot in Indiana. I'm not sure if that means the video or the soldier was shot in Indiana; though, since we're talking a supposed ghost, then I assume both might be true.
The second case revolves around an all-time favorite…cattle mutilations. And from the previews, the cuts are surgical so we have to be dealing with aliens. No earth technology exists to make surgical cuts. But then, given some of the issues in the past, we're not really sure what the term "surgical" means to these folks; especially when the concepts of "head lights" and "ask directions before you declare 'this is the exact spot'" seem quite foreign to this team.
Keep an eye out for wardrobe in the opening scene, the very brief shot I saw indicated a change of clothing. Although, it WAS a very brief shot and the guy with the telltale purple shirt wasn't shown. It may also have been footage from the "explaining how we overlooked everything" segment.
Six episodes and I know only two and a half of these folks by name when I see them. The and a half comes from the fact that I get Ben mixed up sometimes. No character development and no attachment to these folks. I guess the "no character development" comes from the fact that they can't think of anything else to make up about these guys and gals.
But, I digress again. I think the case I'll be more interested in tonight is the one about the Civil War ghost. It looks like they break out the ATVs and Night Vision again in an effort to make good TV (which usually results in a &@%*-Poor investigation) I've had no luck finding the alleged video of the ghost yet.

Having been a semi-student of the Civil War era I cannot recall immediately any conflicts fought in Indiana.
I would have to suggest a hologram effect from an artifact stored in Warehouse 13.
Hey, it's as logical as the horse crap these guys come up with.

Corydon in 1863…VERY southern tip of Indiana. A raid by Morgan which resulted in a Union loss.

Ahhh yes, the ol' Morgan raid of '63.
Didn't he get a rum named after him?
No. Wait, that was last night's show.

It was the only thing that got me through last night's episode! Those darned "parrots" Barry kept referring to were getting to me with all that squawking about crackers and I had to turn to something to ease the pain of watching. Actually it wasn't rum but it had similar properties…
Far as I know, this skirmish was the only action in Indiana of note. The video appears to be a ball of light of some sort. Hope it's not another car. What I've seen is so fragmented, though, that I can't be certain that it's not from their own investigation. You know, the part where they give up trying to figure out a normal cause and break out the Geiger counters and gas detection units.

There's just no denying that evidence! That one is open and shut, 6-second investigation tops. In fact, it's so compelling I wonder why they'd even have to go out of the studio to check it out?

Ben: "EVP session, Larry, Jael, and Ben, in a pasture somewhere in Colorado"
Ben: "Is there anyone with us here tonight?"
…pause…
Ben: "Can you tell us your name?"
…pause…
Ben: "Are you dead?"
Back in the studio during the review…
Ben: "Whooh, remember when we were in the pasture doing the EVP session? I think we might have gotten something"
Tape Playback: "Is there anyone with us here tonight? static static static Moooooooooooo"

If all of you on here dislike this show so much then why bother watching? It just seems kind of childish to watch something in order to bash it later.I know I'm going to get bashed myself for stating the truth.

Hi, Judy! We have no problem with any point of view around here, so long as it's stated with civility and backed up with well-formed and well-chosen arguments.
It's a frequently-asked question. One answer is that we enjoy watching paranormal shows, and we also enjoy using our brains to figure things out. Critical analysis can look a lot like hate, but you could see it as very tough love.
There's more to say on this subject, but I don't want to hijack the thread. If you'd like to continue the discussion, please start a new thread and we can talk about this further.

Ghost of a Civil War soldier?
*Nods and coughs once*
*Coughs a bit more*
*Cracks his neck and looks around*
*For no apparent reason, Revenant begins humming the theme song for "Spider-Man."*
*….hmm, hm, hmmm…"does whatever a spider can, spins a web, any size, catches ghosts just like flies"….*
*Coughs again*
I'm sorry, what were we talking about again? The top ten "dust devil" designs for experimentation?
I eagerly await Nosfer's review…

It's a FREAKIN' SPIDER!!!!!
RE: The Caretaker/Cutter Episode of FOF
The so-called "Ghost Train" is simply a spider on a spiderweb!!! What a HUGE waste of time and money "investigating" this "case."
I went online to see if anyone else spoke out about the spiderweb/ghost train, and noticed that the "SyFy Twitter Forum" went down right after another viewer posted the obvious "spider on spiderweb" explanation.
The site is still "down" although you can read part of the comment if you Google "Fact or Faked" "The Caretaker/Cutter" and Spider.
Pretty convenient timing for the Forum to "go down."
And the so-called EVP of a woman saying the word "cough" into the mic was an outrageous fake!! It even sounded like the "journalist" who was "investigating" the "case."
Is it evidence of the paranormal if this show gets renewed, or just blatant stupidity?

Have it about finished…if Judy thought there was bashing before, it's because of the sheer, absolute, unbelievable INCOMPETENCE of the investigators on this show which was only reinforced about a hundred-fold last night.

Bingo! It sure is, you can even see it's legs.
Someone actually uploaded the show this week.
Great review Nosfer. We have a show that is actually worse than Ghost Hunters! It even has loud annoying music.

Nice… . Thanks for bringing that to our attention. That is pretty funny…
@ Learjet – Glad you could join in the fun. So now you see what we've been up against. What a bizarre ride it has been…
Great review Nosfer. I watched the episode with a few friends. We just sort of looked at each other and kept asking "Um…isn't that a spider?" One of my friends made a keen observation though while watching the show. She said that she couldn't see the spider and she wished that they would "slow the video down." That struck me. Why weren't they showing it frame by frame? The VERY first thing that one does when watching a supposedly paranormal video is go frame by frame. That's Debunking 101. Anyway…
Nosfer said: "First up is an ATV experiment. Oh you should have heard the oaths being uttered here! Austin gets his helmet (he’s the stunt guy, right?) and starts to get ready while he explains just exactly what the ATV Experiment is for and why. One of the theories out there is that this was just someone driving by on a vehicle. Seriously! So they are going to have Austin floor it through the cemetery area on the ATV and film him. Seriously! They set up and Austin revs up and starts hauling toward the camera and dramatic percussion music accompanies him as he roars across the grass past the camera. Well, results were pretty conclusive to me. Austin is NOT a spider."
I am going to go ahead disagree with you on two counts. The first…I don't see what paranormal event can't be explained by riding an ATV at full speed through a cemetery. To me, it was brilliant. It was one of those moments of clarity. Wow…just…brilliant. The second…I am still NOT convinced that Austin is NOT a spider.
Nosfer said: "Austin starts booking toward the camera and Ben films, exclaiming “Wow” Then explains that when it came out of focus and says it looked like an orb."
So…let me get this straight. By their definition…a "Stunt Expert" is one who can ride an ATV through a cemetary and run through mist while carrying a light…but does not do a 180 degree turn with a car (the "Ghost Car" episode) or jump a four foot high fence with a car. Um…so…doesn't that kind of mean that every single person here at SV instantly qualifies as a "Stunt Expert?"
Nosfer said: "Jael has doubts and suggests they break out the IR cameras and look for other explanations that are paranormal."
I absolutely loved this part. "Science has failed us. Rational thought has left us high and dry. Austin…set a course for the paranormal…it is our only option." If A=3 and B=5 and the equation before you is A+B=X, and you cannot solve it….one should not assume that X does not exist and maybe they should just solve for "Y" which isn't even apart of the equation. Perhaps…find someone smarter than you that can solve it for you. In this case…A=the FoF team, B=Stupidity and X=An Epic Failure of an Investigation. And "someone smarter"….is apparently EVERYONE ELSE watching the show!

The second…I am still NOT convinced that Austin is NOT a spider.
I think it would have been funny as all get out if Austin had done this wearing a cape and a helmet with lightning bolts on it…his own version of a "super hero" :)
Yes, slow the darn video down, go frame by frame, basic debunking skills. Okay, I'm going to go there…my "spidey senses" were tingling when I saw the full-speed video and it just kinda jumped right out at me, pausing the footage was the coup de grace. I didn't mention this in the review, but at one point during the episode, they actually DO pause the footage. It's…it's…it's…I just can't fathom their thought process!

Apparently the spider controversy has drawn the attention of the FoF team. Here is their response:
http://www.twitlonger.com/show/386u6k
Apparently it's taken from Ben Hansen's twitter page. According to their 'analysis' it if were a spider then it must have been either traveling very fast on the wind or what have you. Somehow this is known as "the ghost train" or something..whatever…apparently they didn't have enough time to address this "on camera" aka means they didn't think of it and are trying to cover their butts.
Basically it boils down to "moving at fast speed blah blah blah we don't have a clue what the hell we're doing.."
