In these episodes we are led to believe that our heros spend time scouring the internet looking for paranormal videos to bring to their little sit-down sessions so that Chi-Lan can clap her hands in glee.  Well, I think we've suspected that even this was probably made up.

"Along came John Maas, producer of Fact or Faked. Scouting for paranormal
footage online, Maas and his staff discovered the video
and thought it perfect
“evidence” for an episode of the show."

This is Bryan and Baxter of Warning: Radio. I don't recall if I covered this on the podcast or not, but we interviewed 'em here. (My, the podcast has been silent for a while, hasn't it? Hadn't really realized.)

Are we insane to ask for some minor shred of integrity for reality TV? It doesn't seem to bother anyone else, but I just don't see how we're wrong.

I'd also add that the person writing at the above link for Randi is Karen Stollznow who also was podcasted (is that the right term?) and which can be found here.

I always found the sit down sessions at the start of the show to be pointless. It's obvious that they did not scout the vids themselves and of course they already know which videos they are going with and which they are going to bust. Seems like there has to be a better way for them to present these videos at the start of the show, but then again I have to remind myself of which show I am speaking of and that any other shows producers would know that all of these vids have been debunked prior to the show.

I don't really get too upset about the way they present the videos at the start (well, I do, but not in a relative sense compared to the rest of the show!), it's as good as any, I just don't care for the fact that it's one more inaccuracy and one more way that we are shown something that didn't really happen.  What there needs to be a better way to present is the remaining 37 minutes which entails the investigation (minus commercials)

  • Get someone who doesn't believe that the solution to all situations is an RC vehicle.
  • Get someone who has at least picked up a copy of the Golden Guide to Spiders and their Kin.

I know.  Many things have mentioned in this thread and we haven't even touched on the GIGANTIC elephant in the room.  More like a Woolly Mammoth.  Or a herd of them actually…

The whole…"can you re-shoot the video" thing.  Oh…and with notes!  Wow!  Yell

I have to admit, the very first thing that I thought of was that "Beast of Dartmoor" footage.  Sooo many red flags with that "three second wonder."  Nosfer and I both wondered if that footage had been doctored.  With this article…wow, it's hard to assume that it wasn't.

Oh…and the absolute killer in all this?  If the producers are picking the videos and having the people re-shoot the videos to show whatever…the FoF team is STILL GETTING THEM WRONG!  That…is both hilarious and intrinsically sad at the same time.  They are literally giving them the answers and they're still failing.  It's mind-bottling (  :P  ).

PS  Speaking of woolly mammoths…is it actually fair to bring an ice age creature into global warming?  Just sayin'…

One word (well, maybe more) comes to mind when describing the cast-incompetent.  "How to bungle an investigation" would be a good sub-title for this show.  Was this the answer to those of us who have been asking for a show featuring skeptics?  If so, I am well and truly insulted.  It was not what we had in mind.

I also wonder why the producers or whoever is responsible for picking the mysteries they supposedly research choose what they do in light of the fact that these are relatively old tales.  A number of them, like the cattle mutilations, have already been investigated and debunked years ago.  Autos supposedly traveling uphill, as well as the legend of the children killed in a bus that was stalled on train tracks (not true), was also debunked.  The auto part has been known to be an optical illusion for quite a while.

Our friend the spider (who I hear has gotten an agent) was able to embarrass those in this production and also insulted the intelligence of its audience.  I mean it was sooo obvious, yet they refuse to admit they made a mistake.  Sometimes I think the show belongs in the comedy category.Laugh

At least some supposed sightings of The Beast of Dartmoor" have a very earthly, and cute, explanation:

Good thing nobody decided to take a shot at the animal.

Doesn't anybody do ANY research on that show?
