http://www.fanbolt.com/headline/8707/Interview:_John_Brenkus,_Ben_Hansen,_and_Bill_Murphy_of_%27Fact_or_Faked
A few gems:
John Brenkus: I think that what's interesting is that SyFy is a network that we feel is the most credible network to explore this sort of thing.
It seems like what makes this show different is that there's a lot of investigative procedures and hard science that's used to investigate these things.
Ben Hansen: Oh for sure. I think that any legitimate paranormal group tries their best to incorporate scientific methodologies. Where they often fall short though is getting a little too far ahead of themselves in their enthusiasm and trying to you know just get out there and maybe interact with these things.
And so the way that our group and this show is formulated is that we really try to make an honest effort- as far as I'm aware, one of the first attempts- to try and recreate and replicate which is one of the bases of science is to replicate experiments.
As you can see in our shows, we go out there and we try to take experiments to replicate what is seen on the video. And then if that fails we look at the paranormal explanation.
The whole interview is, in fact, a gem…I recommend it for a good chuckle!

Thanks for posting this. I checked it out a few days ago when I was trying to figure out why Bill was/is being called the "lead scientist." I never did find anything that wasn't "paranormal-related." Anyway, I must have seen something shiney and totally forgot to post it.
Yes, the whole thing is pretty funny. And you nailed the best one…"As you can see in our shows, we go out there and we try to take experiments to replicate what is seen on the video. And then if that fails we look at the paranormal explanation."
Yes…when one can't figure out a typical spider video (as if there aren't thousands to choose from…), it's always best to do some make believe science (kind of shocked that they didn't wear lab coats to look even more "sciencey") and then start talking to the dead on crappy recorders and then proclaim that Jael saying the word "cough" is ghostly. Brilliant! Brilliant I say…
And…just throwing this out there…IF ghosts did exist and IF ghosts did retain some sort of intelligence and IF the ghosts could somehow communicate vocally…and if you were that ghost…wouldn't you utter maybe something important? Like…oh, I don't know…maybe your child's name? Maybe the name of your killer? How about the name of your spouse? Or…you would just want to point out that someone indeed did cough and perhaps that they should cover their mouth? Once again…brilliant!

Very! Part of me still thinks we're being punked by this show lol Either that, or SciFi is behind all this as it's own version of Scary Movie and this is supposed to be a spoof on the other Ghost Hunting shows. Then again, maybe they DO think we're all sponges that will absorb and believe everything that comes out of a TV set.

I guess most of us manage to embarrass ourselves by our stuff ups at some point in time. But to do it unrepentantly on TV in front of thousands…. well that takes a special something. Not too sure what that something is, but whatever it is I would bet it has ramifications for their future careers to be forever trapped in an area of TV psuedo-science. Who in real world science would ever employ them after the spider fiasco and Poulden lights?
Never the less, they do have a place in life, that being for our personal ammusement here at SV. They are so bad at what they do, I find them highly entertaining. Personally I hope they continue in denial and call the spider a ghost, cough – ghost, moving leaf – ghost, EMF reading – ghost etc, because like negative ghostly energy, this is what we feed on Lol.

These "investigators" seem to botch everything that they touch. The Paulding Light has been debunked since 1986. I even have some friends who are Physics teachers who have been there and debunked it as headlights. Its headlights from 7 miles away, yet when FoF shows up they block the road off 3 miles away and back up traffic which causes the Paulding Light to appear the whole time. Everyone says when you walk toward the light it disappears, well it does because your going down hill and out of the vantage point. The movement of the light is merely autokinesis taking over. Then you have the supposed photography expert of the group who always brings in obviously faked videos and it takes the other members to point it out to her and explain it to her. Maybe they need to change roles? Then there is the obvious spider web and "cough" EVP. The most embarrasing though is them traveling all the way to Texas to debunk a down grade hill that they belive is up hill. From what I understand everyone in the state knew it was downhill and the people I have talked to from that area say its not even an optical illusion, you can look at it and tell its down hill. Yet these "investigators" decide to tackle it for 15 minutes to waste time. Whats more embarrasing for them is one of the "investigators" actually claims that is from around the area and has heard the stories. All of the people on this show don't come across like they really have a degree in anything. The former FBI agent looks really young, so it makes me wonder why he wasn't in the FBI to long.
There is a rumor going around that one of the stars of the show is kin to a senator and that is how the show got picked up for another season so quickly, but don't hold me to that. It's probably just typical internet gossip with no basis.
Also, why does all paranormal shows feel the need to crank up the moody music to 11? Especially when I watch this show I feel like I'm back at the Imax watching the Dark Knight again.lol. I get they want to set a mood for the audience that just want cheap thrills but for the people like us who go out and do research to truly find answers to everything, its just plain annoying!
