This is the mid-season Fall Finale of the season four stint.

The team heads back 6100 miles from Los Angeles to Guam for this investigation.  Although, if one were skeptical, he would point out that the team has flown to Guam for two other investigations (the Ghost Fleet and the Haunted Island Ruins) and then ponder whether or not the Guam investigation was done at the same time to save money.  My we're a suspicious bunch, aren't we!

All I can say is that I hope they did the Guam Zombies investigation BEFORE the Haunted Island Ruins.  Why?  Well, remember that Josh was sick an additional 18 times after the Haunted Island Ruins…given the amount of time they spend on local culture and commercials, that would be about a barf-a-minute during the Zombie investigation if it were afterward.

So, I'm assuming that we will have a well Josh during this outing. Unfortunately, since I suspect they will be going after the Taotaomona, we may see more of it.  One of it's powers is that it can make you feverish and turn you into a zombie.  So instead of going after the zombies, DT will probably be going after the Zombie Creator.  For more information on this creature, see:

http://guampedia.com/taotaomona-taotaomona/

The team zips back to Los Angeles from Guam, consults with George Romero and shows him their evidence.

Then the DT'ers head off to Madagascar…wait, they were there once before this season, too.  $%&$@!  Why must they continue this charade!?!

Alright, they either fly to Madagascar, stay in Madagascar after their last investigation, or just green-screen it…no matter how they get there, they give us the impression of being on Madagascar looking for the Fangalobolo.

The Fangalobolo is a monkey-faced bat-like creature that is believed to terrorize the Madagascarites Madagascarians Madagascaresians.  Didn't they already search for a creature like this?  Considering the relative proximity, what are the odds that this was just a Popobawa that flew over from Zanzibar?  Is Madagascar holding mid-term elections?

Overall, I'm expecting I may like these episodes, at least in a relative sense.  We know Steve won't be along because of spiders!  And I much prefer caves and tunnels to rigged closet doors.  Give me a cave or a tunnel in an investigation, and it automatically goes up a point or two in my book!

Let's see, set the K2 right next to the voice-recorder.  Then ask a question (which the recorder will pick up) and all of a sudden the K2 right next to it blinks.  Hmmm, let me think about this one for a minute or two…okay, done!

It looks like when Mike is touched he reaches his left hand around to his back…apparently touching the area, which would then be picked up as a heat signature when they aim the thermal at it right after.

Im pretty new at this but I also wondered about putting two electrical gadgets next to each other;  DUH!

And Mike does reach around and touch his back and THEN holler like a little girl.

Credence level going down, anyone?

Anyone else find it suspicious that the crocodile BACKED into the water?  I think most animals enter unknown conditions face first so that they aren't caught unawares…unless their defensive mechanisms are in back.  I have to wonder if this was reversed footage to show a crocodile going INTO the water and add drama to yet another falling (this time out of a boat)

For example:

http://www.thoughtequity.com/video/clip/4470202_083.do

Or this one which is almost the same situation considering the distance of the drop to the water:

http://www.pond5.com/stock-footage/356712/crocodile-01.html

Or this one:

http://www.thoughtequity.com/video/clip/4470202_023.do

I have to call the footage we saw on DT into question and ready to say fraud.

For now, I'm just going to comment on Madagascar portion of the show.

Here is the main thing that I came away with: when someone asks you if you'd like to jump into a hand-carved canoe and paddle into Crocodile Cave…always say "no thank you."  By far, the most amazing thing that I have ever seen on DT is not that Josh Gates fell out of the canoe…but that he was able to get back into it without capsizing it.  That….was paranormal.

Aside from that, I was disappointed by the claw.  Not that they found it, but that it's a mystery.  Right off the bat, I'm just assuming that DNA can't be extracted from it?  I'm not sure if they said that…my dogs were barking at the time.  And it's not like I don't have confidence in Jim Dines (sp?), the guy from the museum, but…Madagascar is very weird and very specific place.  There are no experts there that Gates could have asked?  Something tells me that an expert there, like Dr Goodwin, could glance at it, hold it up to the light, and launch into a ten minute speech over what species it belongs to.

Instead of 47,937 paranormal shows on TV, I'd like a scientific team to hit Madagascar.  Just so many new species to be discovered (although I'm a bit uncertain about the "Fangalobolo").  I would much rather watch that then to see Jason and Grant pass secret words to each other via ghost ("Atlantis"…"Comet"…really?) or watch Zak smack his recorder against a wall and then brace himself as if he's just heard a ghost.  I guess real science just isn't as exciting as watching Ryan from PS rage his spiritual war against the unseen, unknown, and unproven…

Hmmm…interesting.  I don't think the episode has hit youtube or the Syfy yet so I can't take a look.  And I don't know enough about croc's to answer the question of whether or not they ever slide into the waters from a backward position.  Does it look like the croc's front legs are really pushing down on the bank? (If the film is reversed, the croc would be exerting a great deal of pressure on the front legs in order to get up on the embankment.)

It IS possible that it is backing up, but it goes counter to pretty much every video I've been able to find of a crocodile entering the water.  It's hard to tell but as he descends, his front legs MAY slide a bit (which they would not do if he were hoisting out of the water)

Concerning video with a croc or gator slipping into the water from a backwards position…you may have trouble finding it just based upon the perspective of the person with the camera.

When I was looking at FLIR video for another DT thread and trying to find human heat reflections (that didn't have anything to do with the paranormal), I was coming up wth nothing.  It just came down to that regular people like engineers or scientists probably view video with human heat reflections as contaminated or worthless so there's no point to upload them.

So filming a croc sliding into the water backwards might be viewed as a "poor" shot.  Kind of like watching my dog back up after drinking from her water bowl instead of her just turning around and walking forward.  It just isn't a big deal so it's not uploaded.

So it would be great to find some video, but…maybe asking an expert would be handier.  Anyone have a friend who happens to be an expert on that particular species of crocodile in Madagascar? Laughing

Absolutely correct.  In fact, he touches his back twice with his left hand.  First, right when it happens and a second time when he is explaining it to the group and BEFORE they use the FLIR on his back.  Here's the video, the event happens around the 4 minute mark:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l15HJxO30GU

Around the 6:30 mark, Josh tries to explain the incident during the review by saying: "If you lay hands on something and take your hand away, that thermal will show it."  Ali says "It looks like a couple of fingerprints."  Which in turn Josh replies "That's physical evidence."

Um…what?  You've just shown and explained why the "physical evidence" is NOT paranormal.  Your sound man grabbed his back twice and his own prints showed up on the thermal.  I'm thinking that we don't have to bring in Thelma and Shaggy to solve this one.

And, just for the record, if you want to get all sciency and such…maybe show us a baseline with the thermal in that same environment (so the temperature and humidity are the same).  Shoot someones back with the thermal.  Then have them touch their own back a couple of times through their shirt.  If the prints don't show up…then maybe we have something interesting.  If they do show up, then we can dismiss this.  It reminds me of the GH episode where the sound supposedly got hit by his bag and the FLIR was used to "confirm" the hit.  No baseline in the same environment.

Carrie said: "And Mike does reach around and touch his back and THEN holler like a little girl."

Actually, I think that's insulting to little girls.  Most little girls don't go around claiming that zombie ghosts are touching them… Laughing

As for the "shadow" walking across the static camera…I don't know.  Bug?  Piece of flora in the wind?  I would view it as interesting, but I certainly wouldn't start screaming "paranormal."  (The shadow can also be seen in the video clip linked above. It's near end in the review.)
