This is an outstanding observation, one in which I had put in my "FLIR or Foul" thread. Man…I should have thought of that… 
But really…"requires a pretty good knowledge of materials properties" is so vital when examining FLIR footage. That's why the people using this equipment are typically engineers or scientists. They're pretty sharp people. They know what reflects heat, absorbs heat, produces heat, so on and so forth. I highly doubt that any of the people using the FLIR on these shows have those sort of qualifications.
Just another reason why it is so hard for anyone to trust these FLIR images that we're seeing on these paranormal shows.
